I think he's playing it up in the media like Nuke did to show other kids UT is the place to be. This is just for dramatics. the kid would be an idiot if got in that line at SC. The guy would be starting next year in the best conf in the world. duh.

He is from Cali they think Pac-10 is best Conference in the world. I just cant wait for this to be over. It is not the end of the world but at the same time makes a big difference to get this kid in order to get other recruits. I think other QBs will be just as good as him just not with the hype.

Per rivals:

He's not committed to USC yet from what I'm told. He should make an announcement one way or another in a couple days.

I'd say 80% that he'll be a Trojan from what I'm told by various people.

Wow.. yesterday he walked on water, at one point he was even the 2nd coming of Peyton.. Today is "well he's alright, no big loss though" ....He hasn't even committed yet.. Let all wait and see before we start sucking down the blood pressure pills..

Many of you guys seem to think that a thin QB depth chart is automatically a good thing, and that this is all that prospects consider.

If this kid is as big-time as we think he is, he's probably going to take the long view: I'm willing to compete against and learn from other top-flight quarterbacks. If it means I have to wait my turn a little longer, and in doing so push myself to improve that much more, then so be it. Could you blame Scroggins for viewing things that way? I wouldn't. I'd respect that he doesn't want to go where the position is essentially promised to him.

I'm not sure that the we-are-desperate-the-job-is-your-by-default pitch is such a great recruiting approach.

Haha that is what I was thinking,if he commits to USC we will all hear how great Chase Rettig is.

Agreed, he was just here this weekend and everything was awesome. Now it's only been a couple of days since camp at USC and now every one is getting all worked up that he may not come to UT now. Wow this place is like a roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs around here. Everyone just needs to calm down. He would be a great asset to the team but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't come here. The staff will figure something out and get everything back on track.

Definately not ALL a prospect would consider, but I'd say its a helluva big one. Yes he could compete against and learn from other top-flight qb's, but he could also compete against the best teams in CFB right from the start. And that's one helluva learning experience in itself!

I'll respect him wherever he chooses to go, and whenever he gets to play.

And another thing. The Vols. Are. Not. Desperate!

:nono:

In need, maybe. Desperate. No.

:peace:

If from what I think I have read in this thread, Barkley will possibly beat out Corp and be a starting true freshman. If Scroggins is confident, in his mind he only has one Q-back to beat out, or one freak accident from being starter. I noticed Corp was recruited by CLK and Sark. If Scoggins commits to USC whats the chances Corp looks to transfer to UT?

I've been told by various people that it's 45% USC, 45% UT, and 10% UF

Who are these people you guys are talking to? Random Joe's, or people who would actually know what Scroggins is thinking?

IMO this kid really wants to go to USC, but the Tennessee offer just makes too much sense. If he gives us a verbal I think it is far from a done deal on NSD.

You all keep throwing out numbers (possibly just for the piece of mind) that don't mean a thing. How on earth can anyone...I mean ANYONE sit back and logically analyze whats going on an 18 year old kids mind. Sorry. All these numbers are complete fabrications pulled out of thin air that hold ZERO water.

Here's a number for you: 50% - He either comes here or he doesn't...its that simple.

Exactly :good!:

Well said, and 100% true!

This just in...
Anyone not named Jesse Scroggins in reality has no fricking clue what's going on. My sources also tell me that even if you are named Jesse Scroggins, you still don't know what's going on. If you were named Jesse Scroggins and knew what was going on, there would be a commitment already.

Thank you and have a nice day. :hi:

At this point I believe that we just need a name for other recruits to base their decisions on. If you are a big time WR or OL do you want to commit to a team that hasnt signed an exciting QB in two years. The name IMO is as important to recruiting offensive players as the potential. Right now, potential offensive recruits have nothing to base their decision to come to UT on.

Scroggins hasn't committed anywhere yet. At least publicly. I know we want this kid bad. But give him time to make his mind up. He just left USC. There isn't anyway a kid would not be impressed with the track record Pete Carroll has. It's his home town school. There is a big pull there no doubt. But I don't think this is over yet. He has mentioned the depth chart would be a major factor in his choice. I just don't see how he could go there if in fact playing early matters to him.

Good post. The fact that he left USC without committing could mean that we've weathered the worst part of the storm. Recruits are usually riding a high after the visit... he did the same after being in Knoxville.

Now is the time where rational thought comes back into play to balance out emotion. Lets hope that the prospect of being the man in Knoxville outweighs bench time in Compton.
