I am not counting on Rozier to do much of anything...

I completely agree...and I would say that a few of those QBs at UF and USC won't do much because others will play over them...doesn't mean it isn't a name on the depth chart, though....particularly when we are talking about other schools comparing their situations. We already know that Urban sold Jesse on the idea that UF's and UT's QB depth charts were alike.

Don't we have the baseball player that we technically have to throw onto the depth chart at QB?

Yea, But I don't think he is really that talented of a QB. You never know. But he has been away from the game for like 4 years and when he came out of high school we was like the 162nd ranked QB in his class. I don't put alot into rankings but when you are that low it does say a little. He is a big kid though like 6'5" - 245. More like a TE than a QB. We will see but I don't see him playing here.

Rozier has not played football in 4 years....wasn't highly thought of in high school..and isn't on scholly

He will be as much of a QB as Jim Bob Cooter was

Urban Meyer probably told Scroggins that Rozier was an ideal QB for our system and might even push for playing time this coming season..."he's that good."

"Why go to UT, sit on the bench, AND LOSE when you could come down here to UF, play QB, WIN, and the only time you spend on the bench will be when you're sitting there watching Brantley bash some heads as one of our star linebackers..."

The only thing that really makes me think Scroggins may be going elsewhere is the article about Kiffin not taking Jerry Anderson (Scroggins cousin) just to get him. I know he didn't mention names but he had to know what the article was about. But I have to argree with him if it truly came down to offering Anderson just to get Scroggins. I don't think you can do that when you are rebuilding a program.

I couldn't agree more...but negative recruiting isn't about logic or reason..it's about perception, and apparently Urban got in Jesse's ear and led him to perceive the UF and UT QB depth charts to be on a level playing field.

Urban doesn't care if he gets Jesse Scroggins. He just wants to make sure UT doesn't. That's been my point of view all along... He knows that a big-name QB is a big key to pulling in offensive recruits for UT. Why fight 20 or 25 battles with UT when you can fight one big one (where you don't even have to pull the kid to win...you just have to make sure UT doesn't) and then fight a few small individual fires when they pop up....

I think that Jerry Anderson will factor 0% into the decision Jesse makes one way or the other....unless it becomes an issue that paints him in a negative light (e.g., the fans, sports radio, and print/online media making it seem as if Jesse is angling for UT to offer his cousin...and thus peaves Jesse off).

I think the appeal of UF and USC had was playing for championships. You know what you get with both of those schools. Year in year out they are top 5 programs. That isn't going to change. The thing about UT is playing time. Still a big time program but alot of unknowns and alot to think about. I am sure it is a hard desicion for someone like him. Someone who really hasn't grown up like us loving UT. Hopefully he rolls the dice and comes here. I honestly still think we have a good chance of getting him.

Like a guy who was not hurt. Like a guy who was resting up to make sure he did well and got his offer. Unless he told Kiffin this was part of the plan this is not good at all for our chances. We will find out for sure with in the next month.

Four or 5 days for a 17 year old kid can mean ALOT of healing. No one advises coming back from an injury too soon unless they don't care whether you re-injure yourself or not.

JS had nothing to prove to Kiffin. Kiffin was already convinced that Scroggins could play. I doubt that Kiffin asked him to risk further injury to prove what Kiffin had already decided was true.

Scroggins may or may not have been waiting on a USC offer so he could commit to them. He may or may not have wanted to heal up as much as possible before their camp so he could impress... and NONE OF THAT means he'll commit to them rather than UT.

He did very well. Earned MVP award.

.... and did not commit on the spot... could be "telling".

I mean if all the kid has been doing is working the angles to get a USC offer then wouldn't he have made a move?

My take is that he's going about this very carefully and wanted to get all of his options on the table. Of course he wanted a USC offer so he could consider that option. No offer... not an option, changed equation. The offer from USC could actually change the equation by making him decide that palm trees and no winter aren't that important to him... Who really knows but him?

I think if he is coming here. We will here pretty shortly. The longer this plays out the better the chance he is going elsewhere. Hopefully he commits this weekend sometime. We will see.

I disagree.

I think that the longer he waits, the more likely he is to make a rational decision over an emotional one.

If he wants playing time (and he has said over and over that he does), I think the rational decision favors UT.

If he makes a fast emotional decision, I think he goes with his hometown Trojans.

I know some of you don't want to hear it, but missing on Scroggins would drop this class from a potential top 5 class to outside of the top 10. At least that big of an impact. Kiffin and co are going to have to pull every trick they know to get some offensive players to commit here.

Nope.... not unless you were thinking they were going to be #5 by a hanging finger nail. He alone would not drop them from #5 to outside the top 10 under any circumstance. The math just doesn't work.

Not signing a QB with that much potential could possibly do that. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

So, we have went from having the #1 class this year to if we sign Scroggins having a Top 5 class. Now if we don't sign Scroggins, we will be outside the Top 10 looking in as far as rankings go. Boy, it's REALLY starting to get deep in here.

Scroggins is huge in name alone. I fully believe that our coaches can take a Rettig, Lamaison, or even Rees and make them good quarterbacks. This will hurt our 2010 recruiting efforts because the big time receivers and O-linemen want a big name QB to rally around.

However, if we show a pretty decent offense on the field this year, those O-lineman and Receivers may not care as much about the big time QB name. The potential loss of Scroggins just makes our on field performance more important this year.

It's going to be more important if we want to hang on to a QB if they verbal.

Exactly. This one kid will not make or break the class or program. They signed a top 10 class last... basically after losing guys who would have made it a top 10 class anyway.

If he goes to USC then they'll get Rettig and hype him to all the other recruits just like they would have with Scroggins.

speaking of Scroggins and depth chart:

USC
1. Aaron Corp QB So.
2. Matt Barkley QB Fr.
6. Mitch Mustain QB Jr.

Florida
1. Tim Tebow QB SR
2. John Brantley QB So.
3. Jordan Reed QB Fr.
4. Trey Burton QB 2010 commit and has been committed for like a year

Tennessee
1. Jonathan Crompton QB Sr.
2. Nick Stephens QB Jr.

Helping you out there. Two of those guys are walk ons one will have graduated and is not in competition for the spot. If Scroggins goes there he will have missed out on this years competition and if Corps wins it. He will wait two years to compete again. Against Barkley and any other recruit that has come. Not as bleak as you painted but bleak still. Barkely is good and will have a year of learning the system. Of course, if Barkley beats out corps this year(unlikely) then it is over and Scroggins might as well transfer. Or wait to play one year possibly.
