It's going to be more important if we want to hang on to a QB if they verbal.

I don't necessarily think so. If our offense is just as bad as last year, they can essentially point to the fact that they don't have a QB. It's not that far fetched.

Either way, I'm not freaking out over the potential loss of Scroggins. There is still an entire senior season to be played by these kids. Scroggins could suck this year and Rettig could blow up. Who knows.

Jewbaccah....if you take the Seniors out then

UT is the choice hands down.

USC
1. Aaron Corp QB So.
2. Matt Barkley QB Fr.
6. Mitch Mustain QB Jr.

Florida
1. John Brantley QB So.
2. Jordan Reed QB Fr.
3. Trey Burton QB 2010 commit and has been committed for like a year

Tennessee
1. Nick Stephens QB Jr.

If anyone cares Volcaptin on rivals board who said Scroggins committed to SC has now changed and claims Scroggins didn't commit to anyone. His "Source" just informed him.

I thought that this guy said sometime yesterday that his source told him that he was not yet committed. That was posted in this thread....

Well, we need a QB now, BUT with Scroggins playing the fence it really doesn't do anything but hurt us. UT is going to have to go in a different direction more than likely because Scroggins is kind of holding them hostage at this point. If he's a silent, then it needs to be public real quick. I don't think he is, but we will see.

The interesting thing to watch is, if Rettig gets an offer, where his ranking goes. He hasn't been rated by scout yet, but I can almost guarantee that with a TN offer he is a 4 star on scout. Bebe will make sure of it.

Rivals has also complimented him recently. I wouldn't be surprised to see a UT offer catapult him in the rankings. Orgeron knows the politics of these recruiting services as good as anyone. If UT wants him to be highly ranked, he probably will be. Saban does it routinely.

Not sure what you are talking about. That guy hasn't posted anything new. He already said yesterday that his guy says Scroggins hasn't decided. He wasn't the one who claimed he had in the first place. It was a Gatorbait mod.

true but add Lamaison--he is going to be here. It comes down to does he think he is better than Barkely. If he can beat Barkely out he is ok if not he will have to transfer or ride the pine. I dont think he thinks he needs to start as a freshmen but would like to start 2-3 years-3 years is the preference. Here it is almost a guarantee there it is at best a coin toss he plays 2 years-he has a pretty good shot at one year.

remember fellas a commitment isn't binding either way. if the guy commits to UT, then we have to make sure someone else doesn't sway him away. on the flip side however, say he does commit to usc or uf, this staff has proven that they can sway commits to this program, and in far less of a time frame.

who would have ever that that ut could get teague and richardson away from uf, but this staff did. so, even if scroggins commits to usc, that doesn't necessarily mean he won't sign with ut.

at least this is what i'm telling myself..

I appoligize. Brain fart. I have been known for those. As well as regular farts. But that is another story.

USC waiting til camp to offer a QB communicates to prospects where they are in their needs...not much, but hey...if you want to stick around on the depth chart, we'll have a good ole camp competition to see who gets the practice squad position! :good!:

Considering the situations of us and USC, I'd be willing to bet that one of the top reasons he'd choose USC would be proximity to Lakewood. This is different then those two, but still a good point, these guys don't sign until December at the earliest.

Yeah, do you really think he is going to stay committed if Barkley takes over the startingg job and looks to be the next great QB? No.

Just to be anal early enrollees don't sign anything. They just enroll.

This kid needs to choose UT, seriously. It makes the most sense logically and career wise. I would honestly say that even if it wasn't UT and USC or FLA was in that position.

Urban is not going to change his offense, and USC's depth chart is simply too deep. He may be good enough to beat those guys out at USC, but why roll the dice when you are pretty much guaranteed playing time as soon as you step foot on campus here? Florida would be a disasterous decision, unless he is interested in playing the spread...at the very least a variant of it...and then flopping in the NFL. Florida doesn't really have a great track record of putting out big time NFL QB's.

....Kiffin needs to be telling him every bit of that. It isn't selling anything, it is reality.

I'm sure all those points and more have been layed out in a Tennessee logoed Powerpoint deck and in various combinations. He knows the variables. For all we know things could be happening quietly in the background to set-up a nice multi commit package to drive PR attention to the Vols. Scroggins followed by a top WR and top OL commitments would be news worthy.

In this part of the game (recruitment), at least, we definately have top shelf professionals playing the game at the highest level.

He knows what USC and UT have to offer as far as depth chart and potential playing time. If his coach has his best interest in mind he is going over those things with him. If that is the case we should stand out as the clear choice.
If he wants a ring he goes to USC and if he wants to be close to family and friends he goes to USC. To a top flite QB I would think knowing they are going to get enough playingtime to make it to the NFL would trump being close to home.
The more time he takes to make his choice the better off we are because it gives us a hint that he is not as concerned with distance. Saying that I wish and think we need him to make a choice soon so we can move on to plan B if he goes to USC.
I just hope the entire coaching staff is on a plane; getting ready for the big closing!!!!

I am sure the coaching staff is doing everything it can. They will get a QB that will work in Kiffin's scheme and everything will be right in Big Orange Country. I hope this person is Scroggins but if not they will get someone.

Lane Kiffin: "Jesse, this is what I need you to do. Flirt with Florida, then go to USC and earn a offer. Flirt with USC and create a buzz, then when the time is right announce your decision to pick UT over Florida and USC."

I'm hoping this is the scenario playing out. It would create a buzz around JS and make a big impact to other recruits and the nation that a top qb chose UT over the top two programs in CFB right now.

I think there is a 70% chance Sroggins is a Trojan.

25% Vol
5% Gator

Me too. As somebody else pointed out, it would be nice if Kiffin and Co. have other big time offensive recruits ready to commit at the same time. It would be mad cool to see this "shock and awe" scenario play out and get this snowball rolling.
