Lets just hope this is all part of our "Evil Recruiting Genius' " plan. He has Scroggins stir up the drama around his announcement just to make sure that the whole world is watching as he picks up the Orange hat. 1) It shows people he can recruit against USC and 2) it appears to the mainstream media and fans (not the recruiting gurus or recruiting fans) that he got over on little herb.

Not a likely scenario, but it would never surprise me given the whole Nuke saga. Of course, he would have to apologize for the alarming rate of hear attacks suffered by the Volnation in the weeks leading up to the announcement.

Wow. That's one conspiracy theory.

Wow - that was the worst 5 minutes of my life reading those past 5 pages or so... waiting for the post that confirmed he committed to them or something...

Some of these kids want to tell coaches what they want to hear, short of a verbal commitment.
He probably told Meyer encouraging things, CLK, and now Coach Pete. He likely doesn't really know himself at this point.
The mere fact that CPC waited til camp to even offer a QB prospect shows how much he needed one this year...strictly a depth prospect. I think Jesse would love to commit to USC, but that has to be a huge barrier.

At the end of the day, CLK and Orgeron are USC guys themselves, so I think that helps us to some small degree (comfort level with CLK)...knowing that 3 of his coaches would be Cali guys

Holy crap, the suspense! i can't take it anymore..

We'll make do at QB if we can't get Scroggins (though he would obviously help in that department) by finding someone (not as good, but serviceable), but I do wonder where our WR and OL are going to come from in this recruiting class if we don't get him. Come on Jesse...remember the rock :)

My boss (who is very well connected and heard this from him USC source) just told me that Scroggins has NOT commited yet, but told Carroll that he wanted to commit, but decided to think it over for the next few days.

Is it expected that he make a decision this week or this weekend, or will it be extended into July?

I think this kid has played us and Fla. Wants some hype. Good luck if he picks Usc. We go with Lamaison and Newton, Look to next year.

I don't know, I think it would be like someone from Greeneville wanting to play for the Vols with the option of seating on the bench for a couple of years for a chance to play or going to a different school as a starter. It is a tough choice.

I think this is a good point...

His decision right now would appear to be:

1) stay close to home, suit up for your long time favorite and have to fight really hard for playing time....

or

2) go to the other side of the country, play almost immediately if not immediately, and be viewed as one of the main hands in the rebirth of a storied program...

I could be wrong but it would appear UF is just an also-ran...

There are pros and cons for Scroggins with either choice...but ultimately I think the distance thing will play the biggest role...and I can't tell how much that matters to him at this point

He didn't hype himself, WE hyped him up. C'mon, give the kid a break. Every time someone with more than 3 stars shows up on campus, we paint the rock, call them the next coming of [insert_awesome_vol_here]. I haven't seen one instance where Scroggins pumped up anything.

UF lied to him, saying they'd change their proven Championship stylistic play to suit him.

At the end of the day boys, we were 5-7 last year! You can't expect every blue chip to be as forward thinking as BB. These guys (like Scroggins) want to be winners, too. Do you go with a USC that is in the national champ picture year in and year out and has perfected your system? Or do you risk it on a program that was 5-7, hasn't played game under the new staff and has a coach committing very public secondary violations nearly every week?

If Scroggins commits to USC, it will be because he wanted to take the "sure" path to success. If he commits to UT, then he's willing to work hard to contribute to a team trying to rebuild its program with no guarantees he'll have the option to live up to his "hype". Did I mention, we don't have an OLINE????

Did I mention USC is 20 minutes from his HOUSE??? Guys, USC is formidable - we may be on the outside looking in.

I know some of you don't want to hear it, but missing on Scroggins would drop this class from a potential top 5 class to outside of the top 10. At least that big of an impact. Kiffin and co are going to have to pull every trick they know to get some offensive players to commit here.

I could'nt agree more with you Sab. Big name qb's dont always pan out. I hate to say it but look a Crompton. The biggest blow to the program would be that the offensive recruits form the '10 class would see that for the past two years Tennessee has'nt picked up a "Playmaker" quarterback. I think you assesment is spot on. We need Scroggins. Bad

Very valid post, IMO.

I hope you are wrong about UT being on the outside looking in. We shall see very soon.

If TN has a successful season and we prove a QB can productive under this staff....we will land a QB. I don't care who commits where right now....Scroggins would help with other offersive players....but we win on the field..we win in Feb.

Scroggins hasn't committed anywhere yet. At least publicly. I know we want this kid bad. But give him time to make his mind up. He just left USC. There isn't anyway a kid would not be impressed with the track record Pete Carroll has. It's his home town school. There is a big pull there no doubt. But I don't think this is over yet. He has mentioned the depth chart would be a major factor in his choice. I just don't see how he could go there if in fact playing early matters to him.

Was it just me or did that War Room suck?

I agree. Voquest is really not what it used to be IMO. I basically get the same info here the second it is posted on there. Also the board over there is to much drama for me. I don't even post.

You like for a blue chip to love your school and have no doubt, commit and never waver. But sometimes they do "commit" elsewhere ... then change their minds over the course of months. Examples, Bryce Brown and Janzen Jackson. Conversely, I recall Nunes committed to UT. Who knows what these guys will think once we start playing this fall.

speaking of Scroggins and depth chart:

USC
1. Aaron Corp QB So.
2. Matt Barkley QB Fr.
3. Garrett Green QB Sr.
4. John Manoogian QB Fr.
5. Chris McCaffery QB So.
6. Mitch Mustain QB Jr.

Florida
1. Tim Tebow QB SR
2. John Brantley QB So.
3. Jordan Reed QB Fr.
4. Trey Burton QB 2010 commit and has been committed for like a year

Tennessee
1. Jonathan Crompton QB Sr.
2. Nick Stephens QB Jr.

Wow. That is a true eye opener. If Scroggins commits to USC then he isn't worried about the depth chart after all. Either he thinks he is better than any of these guys, or he doesn't really care and will be happy being on the USC team and waiting 2-3 years before getting a chance to start.

I think I remember Nunes saying he was completely devoted and wanting to recruit other prospects to UT also. Just goes to show how fickle a teenager can be.

It just doesn't matter. I seriously feel like if Barkley takes the USC job at some point like I fully intend him to, Scroggins would still be in the mix in his senior year and for some reason I think he doesn't mind. Not counting if Barkley left a year early if he's setting the world on fire and jumps for the NFL, Scroggins could start for two.

For some dumb reason, I just get a feeling that Jesse wants to stay close to home, and that he either feels he can beat out Barkley or that just because it's USC it's worth riding it out like past USC QB's have, and they still end up moving onto the NFL.

What a depressing start to a Friday.

Exactly, I just don't see how a kid could not look at that if playing early matters at all. Which he has said does matter in article after article. Also in the war room it mentioned the coaches were about to take the whole month of July off. Something tells me this kid will end up here. Maybe I am wrong. Who knows but I won't believe it till he says he's committed.
