If Jesse indeed is able to graduate early and be on campus for Spring training, he is going to have a legit shot to start...and frankly, I believe he will. Why? Cause CLK has shown that he want's HIS players and HIS coaches (Chavis largely did a great job last year, and still got canned). If he is going to go down, he wants to make sure that he did it HIS way. Can't blame him for that.
What transpired at Oakland put a bitter taste in his mouth. He was not given the same ability to choose his coaches and players there, as most HC's do.
I firmly believe CLK is very eager to get his own players in here ASAP...and when you consider that Stephens will only have one year head start under Kiffin's offense, he may very well be behind the 8 ball in CLK's mind. We'll see, but Scroggins will not find a better situation to start....anywhere.
I really think it's either Scroggins + Rettig or Scroggins + Lamaison (even though he counts for the 09 class), and unless Stephens really comes on this fall (starts at some point and keeps the job), I can see him transfer out, possibly (having the same thoughts that BJ had).
interesting point someone touched on. could Scroggins get offered without competing? it would make USC look like hypocrites(sp), after boasting the "may the best man at camp win" philosophy. i know they can recruit very well, only having to offer a hand full of scholarships, every year, but their arrogance may cost them Scroggins.
Who are the other QBs, besides Scroggins, that will be competing at USC's camp?
Bray will be back on campus for the Rising Stars Camp where he will compete with quarterbacks Jesse Scroggins and Brett Nottingham for an offer from the Trojans.
The recent commitments of Nick Montana to Washington and Pete Thomas to ASU will undoubtedly slim down the competition, and Bray picked the right time to show up. Our bet, WeAreSC that is, still rides on the arm of Scroggins.
That's the scenario I see playing out. I think you nailed it. Now if USC thinks they have a legitimate chance to nail him, they'll offer him. They could always offer Nottingham or Bray later and get one of them. It's crazy that they have the depth chart that they do and they still want to land a QB. tOSYU is loaded too and will likely take a QB this year and next. Just goes to show you how behind we are in QB recruiting.Well Scroggins may have given them the perfect out to save face. He MAY have taken a little shot at them about getting in late. They might take that as a sign hes going to commit to UT and not offer him at thier camp to save face. Trust me, they dont want the ONE QB they offered to reject them for another school. They will offer the one they think they can land. If he cant perform at thier camp, that gives them an easy out.
The more I think about the more I worry about Florida. You just never know how it will play out. And a National Championship goes a long way to landing recruits.
I wouldn't be too concerned with Florida. They may be a bigger threat for his services that USC, but he just came off a visit there and by all accounts, his visit here superseded that one. And I don't think USC is a factor just because of Barkley. Surely Scroggins realizes he is going to have to sit behind him for 3 years. He may be confident, but he's not stupid. He has a real, real good chance to play early in his career here. If Nick Stephens can't get it done, he may even get inserted into the action his freshman year. I hope not though. I hope Stephens can hold the fort down so that Scroggins can further develop and get the offense down pat.
i think stephens will be JP wilson 2.0, for gods sake he has more natural ability.
I don't see the correlation, personally. JP Wilson played well as a freshman and then started for 3 more years and never was challenged for his position. He was a much better QB than people give him credit for. Real poised in the pocket, confident, excellent leader. I don't see those qualities in Nick Stephens yet.
This is what I am thinking. From all accounts, he could barely move yesterday, much less work out. I can't see the injury allowing him to do much at USC. It hasn't gotten any better since the Air Passing Attack combine last week, and may have gotten worse...
I think someone on VQ talked to Dion Bailey and Bailey told them that Scroggins injury was a hip flexor. Is there any difference between a hip flexor and a hip pointer?
