hinder is consistantly ranked higher than montana. rivals doesnt' even have montana in their top 250. yes de la salle runs the spread, but the fact is nick couldnt' hack it there and ran like a little girl to whatever program would take him. if this happens in high school what do you think happens when he doesn't start immediately at UW?

No he isn't.
Just in the latest ESPN Camp or whatever, Montana was rated the best player while Hinder was the one with the most upside. It's a Greg Biggins article. Montana is even an Under Armour player along with Scroggins, Bells, and Phillip Sims.

Hinder got overrated in Rivals judging by what the other rankings are giving him. Not saying that Hinder isn't 4 star talent, but by all account he isn't the anywhere close to the #2 QB (Bells, Jones, Heaps are all better). Scout has him around #15 and that was after an ugly showing that once dropped him to 3 stars. At least at this point, 2/3 point toward Montana. Even Notre Dame's Gold Helmet private recruiting favors Montana over Hinder FWIW.

Actually, Montana went to So Cal for several reasons beside football. One of them was father business. One of them was a better style of offense. One of them was to get closer to Steve Clarkson. Nick didn't go to Oaks Christian solely to "escape".

And enough of this Montana stuff. As someone said earlier, this isn't a Pac 10 board.

You gotta like our chances with Scroggins being here the 15th-18th...Rock painting 101 is needed!

But seriously, how can you go to Knoxville, talk to our coaches, walk in Neyland Stadium, look at our depth chart, and NOT choose Tennessee if you are Scroggins!

for a RB, I can see your scenario.
for a WR/TE, I can see your scenario.
for a defensive player, I can see that scenario.
not as much for the QB because I still believe the QB coaching is U Tenn's weakest link.

Weak link? Kiffin coached a couple of pretty good ones at USC. Cheney coached Brees if I remember right. Brother in law is a little less proven but there is some solid history on the staff.

I agree that our actual QB coach may be our weakest...but Kiffin and Chaney have pretty impressive QB coaching resumes...Palmer, Leinart, Booty, Brees, Orton ring a bell?

That is not a good point at all. UT is one of the best schools at producing QBs. This is one of first times in many years we have not had a solid QB. Manning, Martin, Cluasen, Ainge (r. clausen 1 year in there).

We have a lil tradition....

I don't see how you could. The depth chart alone should make his decision. Florida has John Brantley who will be a sophomore this year, they signed 4* Jordan Reed in the 2009 class and they have already signed 3* Trey Burton for next years 2010 class. Add in the fact Scroggins has family ties in Tennessee, it seems like it would be a no brainer.

If it comes down to UT and UF, I think we win out no problem.

I know multiple independent sources who were present at the Berkeley Elite 11 workout, and what they saw was very different from what Biggins reported. That he fails to mention Montana's multiple 15-yard outs that were thrown short and into the dirt says it all.

Kiffin was working mainly with TE and WR. You may be right that he did work with the QBs, but he is certainly not known at all for it. In matter of fact, I didn't even realize he was a former QB until today.

At Purdue, I thought Chaney worked with the TE and O Line. Again, if Chaney had any involvement with the creation of Brees, I honestly believe it's minimal at best.

The QB coach is the QB coach for a reason. He almost exclusively coaches the QB. lol.

And yes, Tenn does has QB tradition, but it's a little inaccurate to say that QB tradition=success because so much depends on the current staff.

Actually, almost everyone started out slowly. Biggins even admitted in the comment section that Montana and Hinders were in the middle of the pack in terms of performance, but the top performers barely had any upside. Furthermore, the area that made Montana superior was that he got better as the day went on. Hinder... has just been what I've read. Gigantic frame, good arm strength, but extremely raw and inconsistent.

Ever heard of David Cutcliffe? I think he was a Offensive Coordinator that coached the QB's a little...it happens. Chaney is solely responsible for Brees and Orton from what I understand. And Kiffin was a TE's only one season, then QB coaches then Ocoordinator.

My memory is a bit blurred for Chaney, but I know Kiffin was never EVER QB coach. Sark was QB coach from 01 or 02-03. Spent a year at the Raiders as QB coach in 04 and came back until last year as QB coach/Assistant Head Coach and eventually OC. Even in the 04 year, Carl Smith was the QB Coach.

kiffen was the qb coach for the likes of matt leinert, booty, and sanchez. two of those guys are in the nfl.

you got to be kidding me... I could see the misperception coming from a school as far out as Tenn, but seriously? You're right there and Kiffin has almost never been credited with QB development.

right because the passing game coordinator and the offensive coordinator never have anything to do with qb development.

USC- 4th string, may never see the field
Florida- nuff said, who wants to succeed what Tebow did?
LSU- Jefferson, and Miles who is so known for producing QBs
UT- 4 year starter and coached by KIFF, a former QB, and will recieve help from Manning, and has family in the area. NO BRAINER GUYS

I know you were much closer to that situation than I ever was.....but how is the passing game coordinator, and later the Offensive Coordinator not heavily involved with the QB's? If Crompton comes out and has a decent year, Kiffin will officially be a miracle worker, period.

Does Montana choosing UW does this help our chances or was UW out of the picture anyways.
IMO he still could go to UW and beat out Montana

i'm hoping Montana going to UW was known fact, therefore causing UT's coaches an extra good feeling with Scroggins, which led them to offer Brunetti. I hope that's what has happened.
