I'm prolly in the minority on this, but I believe the Montana commit helps UT quite a bit. I could have seen Scroggins going to Washington. Sark is one of the best QB coaches around, it is right in his back yard, and Scroggins and his teammates could have played together at UW. I feel confident in UT's ability to out-recruit UW, but it would not have surprised me to see him go there...

Honestly, I can't really see how UT is not his leader at this point. An offer from USC will put us in a battle...

UT: pros- early playing time, his mom's whole family lives in Tenn, we are recuiting him harder than anyone (his words), he can play with Bailey and Anderson... cons- across the country, haven't showed our product on the field

USC: pros- 20 minutes from home, grew up a USC fan, have put more big time QBs in the NFL than anyone this decade (Palmer, Leinart, Cassell, Booty, Sanchez)... cons- have not offered (yet), signed the #1 QB from 2009, won't see the field for 3 years (at best), will land a big time QB in 2011 to take over for Barkley (imo)

Florida: pros- defending Nat'l champs, have one of the best QB coaches in the business, Meyer informed Scroggins that they will be going to a more pro-style offense... cons- Meyer informed Jevan Snead that he was recruiting Tebow at LB, Meyer knows no offense besides the spread, Meyer may leave for his dream job at ND in the next 4 years, UF is all the way across the country, UF already has a QB committed for 2010

Great point,,,, why is Washington out of the picture though?

So I see Montana to Washington, but is Montana that good Scroggins would not consider them? I did not hear that he was all that.

I agree with your comparison. IMO UT would be the most appealing choice for a QB prospect right now especially with the early playing time. I just don't see how USC would be in the mix with Jesse with their QB stable. To me I would think UF and UW would be more of a threat.

I am so pumped at the prospects of landing Jesse, if not just for the fact that this will catapult our OLine and WR recruiting for this class!!!

The only thing I see in Vader's analysis to disagree with is distance being a plus for UDub. LA to Seattle = 1100+ miles. LA to K'ville 2200 miles.

You aren't going to make either drive routinely and what's another 1.5 hours on a plane?

Plus who's going to be on TV more often? The greater exposure potential at UT/SEC I would think would tip the scale in UT's favor.

Well, FWIW, Sark said that he would only take one QB this year. Scroggins said it was ok though in all honestly, I doubt it.

As for Montana, he is the 3rd best QB on the West Coast this year behind Heaps and Scroggins. After Montana, there seems to be a pretty big drop off in terms of quality of offers for QBs on the West Coast. Comparing Peter Thomas and Montana, you couldn't tell that they are rated so closely.

From what I know, Montana, like Heaps, is extremely mechanically sound especially the footwork. And while he has good touch, accuracy, pocket awareness, and mechanics, his greatest asset according to Steve Clarkson (who also coached Barkley) and his Head Coach is his smooth and calming presence, which sounds a bit like his dad. His arm strength, like Heaps, is adequate and D1 level, but nothing close to Matthew Stafford. His weakness, like Heaps, is the size though it's said to have a lot more room for growth than Heaps.
Edit: Note: I'm not saying Montana is equal to Heaps, but the general reports suggest that he has more upside and a bit less polished than Heaps.
In terms of mechanics, Scroggins is the worst of the 3 though he has the most upside and the best arm strength (won arm strength contest at a ESPN hosted camp with 63 yards).

So to answer your question, I think UW will focus elsewhere like the O Line and not as much on the QB because Montana is more than good enough.

I have never heard that Nick was top 3 in the West Coast. Some are saying that he is not even top 3 in Cali. Congrats on Nick, but I just don't think he's as highly touted as you think.

A lot of Barkley love in this thread. I personally don't think he was the most talented HS QB ever, and it's way too early to project him as the best Trojan QB ever... Pretty bold prediction.

Barkley is going to be a stud, but idk about the best ever.

FWIW, its a Fla vs. UT battle now. With a USC offer, its a 3 way battle. I say we come out on top in the end.
