The SEC could help UT. Scroggins said the SEC's reputation will be a "big factor" in his recruitment.

"SEC football is, I think personally, the best conference," Scroggins said. "All the great athletes go to the SEC. All the great schools are in the SEC."

I like the sound of this. No way he goes to LSU imo...

i take it he's not making a decision anytime soon?

He says he wants to make his decision at the end of July or August at the latest, but I think it may come quicker than that. Heaps is going to commit the next couple of weeks to UW most likely and Hinder is going to be a Cal Bear according to most. That will leave Scroggins down to UT, USC, and LSU. After he sees the UT campus in June and meets the coaches, I don't think the decision will be too hard after that. VOL!!!

Someone get rex over here for the lock. That SEC comment makes me feel like we're in a really good position with Scroggins, on top of the facts that he has family in TN and will be attending summer camp.

He's my pick by far between him and Heaps. The comp Heaps is playing against really makes me not want him down here in the SEC.

i was on heaps in the beginning but i'm currently high on scroggins. i see him developing into something special as a college player. he can also move if need be. this is a nice bonus that comes in handy with fast SEC defenses and not the best O-Line...just think about it.

i do see heaps bringing in better recruits for us if he commits though. but this is all up in the air and the 'what if's' that are floating around. newton would be awesome as well. i kinda want him and scroggins to both come with newton starting and scroggins taking over after he exits the college scene....wishful thinking, right?

That's a realistic possibility

Better competition according to who? Skyline H.S. is in the same classification as Bellevue H.S. who has been ranked nationally a few times in the last 5 or so years. They are the team the ended De La Salle's most recent multi-year unbeaten streak.

Yes, as a generalization California schools have better top to bottom competition, but don't rule out WA State altogether.

A post by UTHorsey (from Seattle)...

Skyline moved up to 4A last year, Bellevue is still in 3A. Bellevue is just about always ranked around 50 nationally, and whenever they go hunting for out of state competition during good years they usually end up top 25. In 2009 they're going after 2 state champion teams from Texas and California, as well as what appears to be a very weak Canadian team...Skyline has been in the top 10 in most national rankings since Jake has been there, and they will be going after Nick Montana's team from California and I believe Jesuit from Oregon in 2009. Neither team has lost to an out of state opponent and in the recent years they have won every out of state game rather easily.

Post by Skyline...

All I can say is that we'll see this year then. Because the teams on his highlight film don't look so good. Would like to see them play a team like Booker T. Washington.

HS football in northern california is complete bush league compared to So Cal. De la salle doesn't have their record winning streak in so cal.

I know in the Heaps' thread there have been some percentages thrown around about our chances for landing Scroggins and they look good. How might those be effected by a really strong performance at the USC camp that he has been invited to? Who are the other 5 QBs that will be in attendance?
