Currently aside from a miracle against Bama this is likely our best possible record going forward. My question is if we are able to manage winning out, except Bama, what are your thoughts? At this point I'm getting a vibe from some that DD has to do this or could lose his job. I also get the feeling from some even if he did this it still wouldn't be enough because we wouldn't have beat UGA or FL.

8-4 in regular season was about the median projection going into the season from a fans expectation stand point. 9-3 regular season would be an excellent year imo. 7-5 regular season and you are talking hot seat.......

Dooley is coaching for his job in Starkville, because barring an upset against either Bama (not going to happen) or USCe on the road (possible, but not seeing it atm), a loss to Miss St pretty much assures us of a 7-5 or worse season and that shouldn't be good enough to save him or this staff (Jay may survive since the running game has gotten better from one game to the next).

I believe we go 7-5 this season. The team is not as good as what was expected. Dooley stays another year.

*The above statement are my thoughts and by no way a prediction of the future of the TN football program.

Miss St. & Mizzou will be the deciding factors. We're more than capable of winning each and achieving the 10-3. The team can't get on a roll and get a big head like they did after NC St. Practice hard, play harder

There is no win guaranteed, based on how this season has gone.

Personally, I see the next 4 games as loses. Then, we win out for 6-6.

I certainly hope that the AD does not think that beating GA or FL is necessary for Dooley to keep his job this year. While a win in either/both would have been great, as long as the AD sees continual improvement Dooley should be safe. The key will be the games against the remaining teams. If the team plays the remaining games at the same level as the GA game, then we should finish 8-4 or perhaps even 9-3. Either will result in Dooley coming back for another year. If we finish 7-5 or worse in the regular season and do not win a bowl game, then it will could get interesting.

I think we get to a bowl and Dooley is safe. All of this talk about needing a certain number of wins to stay is bogus. This is a perception created by the media and the fanbase. What matters at the end of the season is how Dave Hart feels. The only question will be, "are we improving?" The quote I heard yesterday is that Hart feels we are close to breaking through.

Even though there are numerous things to work on, this team needs to correct one thing to finish 8-4, containment.

Or USCe or ala. Should not have to beat any team of consequence to keep his job. DFL (dooley for life)

I don't think it matters what we think. We are not in a financial situation to fire Dooley no matter what his record is. I think you have to at least let the man play with his own Seniors to be fair. At the rate we are playing I don't see anyone really leaving early either and I can see our online starting to make strides. Rajon Neal looked like a feature back last night as well. Would anyone really want our offense that is clicking to have to start over learning new schemes when we will be returning everyone besides bartholemew and Rivera? That would be disasterous! If everyone does return we will have the top offense in the country next year a d be rated in the top 25 preseason. We also don't really lose much on defense next year either. We will lose lathers, Wagner and bohannon. Our defense will be in its second year in the system as well. I really hope the fans understand starting over next year is not the year to do it no matter how you look at it.

We have only won 10 regular season games 6 times in the last 40 years, I don't know why people keep thinking this team compares to our best teams historically.

This team does not beat USCe and might not beat MSU.

10-3 is a pipe dream.

37 offensive points against UGA would have been a "pipedream" on last Friday. Anyone else going to hang 37 on them this year? People on this board are acting like that was not a title team we fought with. On their field. That is better than last year. Or the year before. All you can ask for.

amazing what glimpses of mediocrity can do for true believers. majors parlayed it into 15 years. georgia is at best, a good team, not to be mentioned in the same breath with orgeon, so. cal., or bama. they were good enough to make the once proud vol defense look like they were playing with nine guys. if the vol faithful are satisfied with another decade plus run of majors-like mediocrity, dooley's your man.

And why couldn't an upset with Bama happen? Ole Miss played them good for a half anyways. You can't just give up on games already, just because we are not supposed to win a game doesn't mean we can't.

He does this and he should undoubtedly keep his job.

Hard to imagine given the games left.

^^^^^^^

This. A win against Miss. State and you build some momentum, beat a ranked team and these kids see a light at the end of the tunnel. A loss followed by a beat down from the Tide and they might throw in the towel. Hate to say that, but there is precedent.
