#1 on my Phil Fulmer replacement list:

and we all know Nick Saban keeps his word..."I guess I'm going to have to say it. I'm not going to take the Alabama job."

Holy crap. He spoke too soon and then later changed his mind. He definitely worships Satan.

9-1-08 at UCLA L
9-13-08 UAB W
9-20-08 FLORIDA L
9-27-08 at Auburn L
10-4-08 NORTHERN ILLINOIS W
10-11-08 at Georgia L
10-18-08 MISSISSIPPI STATE W
10-25-08 ALABAMA L
11-1-08 at South Carolina W (a toss up really)
11-8-08 WYOMING W
11-22-08 at Vanderbilt W
11-29-08 KENTUCKY W

This is how I think we finish. 7-5, possibly 6-6 if we lose at USC.

Does this get Fulmer fired IYO?

Winning vs. South Carolina or Vandy is a challenge. I say 3-9 for us.

You know i thought about this and i think this is a hell of a choice he's unemployed (from coaching):yes:might like a change of scenery he's got a pretty good resume and he can recruit i think this is better choice than some that has been mentioned Brian Billick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He couldn't do anything offensively without Randy Moss and Cris Carter in Minnesota. Even the year they won the Super Bowl in Baltimore, they were bad on offense. Didn't find an offense (mainly QB) the whole time in Baltimore outside of Jamal Lewis.

Neither did Steve Spurrier or Pete Carroll in The NFL does that make them bad coaches? And Billick does sport a ring so he must have been good at something, right?

1. Bill Cowher
2. Steve Spurrier
3. John Gruden
4. Anybody that can evaluate and have the guts to play young talent!

1. Chris Peterson (Boise State) - put me in his fan club. Anyone who can recruit that many good players to little, ole Boise, Idaho can have his pick of players at the University of Tennessee. Add to the fact that he is an incredible coach... where can you go wrong? I mean he outcoached BOB STOOPS in the Fiesta Bowl in his first year as a Head Coach!! He has the tenacity and guts to be a great SEC head coach too. Who else calls plays like Coach Peterson? No one

2. Gary Patterson (Texas Christian University) - Gary Patterson has made TCU's defense into the best in the nation, year after year. If he gets the right offensive coaches under him (which he could at UT), I think he could coach anywhere. He gets his players ready for the big games very well, and he never loses his composure. I think he would be a great coach for UT.

3. Randy Edsall (UConn) - This man has built a college football program at UConn, which has ALWAYS been known as a basketball school. He has got the university and players believing in his ability, and he has coached so amazingly to bring UConn from the depths of Division 1, to the top of the Big East every year. I would have no problem with the hiring of him.

Others in the mix: Brian Kelly (Cincinnati), Lane Kiffin, John Gruden (NFL), Steve Sarkisian (USC Offensive Coordinator)

Why do I leave off David Cutcliffe? Because he simply won't leave the Duke program after being there only one year. It is not in his character to do that.

What do you think?

agree.....anybody that can discipline players to successfully pull off those plays vs. OU has serious cred!!!

These threads always make me go on tilt.

Sarkisian? Seriously? He's never been a college head coach.

Lane Kiffin? Seriously? He has a little over 1 year of head coaching experience.

Chris Peterson? He's good, but there are better mid major coaches, and you should give Dan Hawkins credit for "building" Boise State. And Dirk Koetter, too.

Turner Gill? lololololol

I think you need to look at proven coaches already or midmajor coaches who have won conference titles like:

Bronco Mendenhall
Brian Kelly (won MAC at CMU)
Chris Peterson
Gary Patterson

I would take chances on two guys who don't meet the criteria:

Mark Dantonio
Jim Leavitt

VIA....of your list I think Brian Kelly is the best Knoxville fit. Mendenhall would be a fish out of water in Knox.

My gut tells me that you'd better get ready for Kiffin.

I'd take a guy with NFL experience over most mid major guys. And I know some people can come to college from the NFL and accomplish nothing, but I would take my chance with Kiffin.

I've been interested in Edsall as well, he has done a good job of recruiting, considering he is in a state with virtually no talent, and a program with no tradition or national limelight to mention.

It was recently rumored that Syracuse approached him, but i can't see him leaving Storrs for Syracuse, considering the difference in funding between the two.

However, he was highly considered for te Georgia Tech job last season, and withdrew his name from consideration. He seems more than capable, and willing to listen to offers.

VIA, We have seen everyone and their mom's opinion on a coaching change, but I haven't seen yours yet. Just curious, I know he doesn't fit your criteria, but what do you think about Brent Venebles? I believe he will be a star one day. What about about Butch?

Venables will be very good, but UT has enough money and history to be able to take someone that isn't a big risk like a first time head coach would be.

Butch Davis is choice #1 in my world - yeah, he's as old as Fulmer, but who cares? We'd battle for the conference immediately.

I think a coaching change will be made at season's end.

My List For Replacements

  1. Norm Chow- is the offensive coordinator for the UCLA Bruins.[1] He has also been an offensive coordinator for the NFL's Tennessee Titans, the University of Southern California, North Carolina State University, and Brigham Young University.
    1. Mike Shula- quarterback coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, an NFL team. Between 2003 and 2006, he was the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program, before he was fired on November 26, 2006.[
    2. Mark Mangino- is the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks college football team, which he has coached since 2002. In 2007, Mangino received several National Coach of the Year honors after leading the Jayhawks to their first 12-win season in school history. Prior to coaching the Jayhawks, Mangino served assistant positions at Kansas State and Oklahoma.
