09 CA S Byron Moore - UT Commit

I see where you are going with this, but he might have been our most important recruit regardless of the Janzen situation. Janzen's situation doesn't really change the fact that Moore was/is very likely to start in the secondary regardless.

O yea I know what you mean he definitely was already very important because he could come in and but if we didn't have him to come in and be able to be that roving free safety we would be in real trouble..

agree, but wasn't he gonna play cb?

Yes, he was recruited to play CB at UT. However, if Janzen doesn't return to UT for the 2011 season then Moore probably gets the nod at Safety. If Janzen does return for the Fall then Moore will obviously stay at CB.

Flowd what do you think our starting secondary will look like without JJ???

Those 7 DB recruits are looking nicer and nicer...

Waggner, Brewer, Sapp, Randolph, Martin, and Orta at safety.

Moore, Lanier, Coleman, Gordon, Teague, Evans, and Thomas at corner.

Is Anderson still on the roster?

IMO Lanier & Moore will probably end up being out 1a & 1b CBs.

until the Young guys catch up to the game, I expect Brewer and Waggner at Safety positions. and If Loften can get all his stuff in by June, He'd probably be a favorite to log major minutes

I think Teague will start. Waggner needs to stay put at corner.

First I'll say that it isn't a done deal that JJ won't return. It is a longshot now, but still very possible.

BUT if JJ doesn't return I see the secondary looking something like this:

FS: Byron Moore
SS: Brent Brewer
CB: Marsalis Teague/Eric Gordon
CB: Izauea Lanier/Prentiss Waggner

I actually see Prentiss Waggner starting off the year as the starter at CB, but Lanier quickly taking over that spot after the season gets going. UT has had great success in the past with JUCO DBs and I don't see that becoming any different now. Losing Janzen will hurt if true because he was our best returning defender. But if he doesn't it won't be as bad now that we have Moore signed.

Waggner needs to stay put at corner.

His inability to tackle bothers me at safety....If Lanier and Moore are at corner I think Brewer is a lock at SS (unless Loften can get in) and I think Randolph could see some minutes at FS...

Edit: Does anybody think Brewer or Loften could play FS????

I think I'm going to agree with you on this one. There is no doubt in my mind that Teague will start at one of the CB spots. I believe they will move Moore to Safety now that Janzen is no longer with UT. We need Moore back there at Safety. I myself don't feel very comfortable with Brewer and Waggner and the other very young safeties. I think Waggner stays at CB where he belongs and battles for the other CB spot with Lanier.

Hit the nail on the head. Waggner would be a major liability to our defense if he was made the starting safety. In most all cases, if you get past the safety it is a touchdown. We can't afford to put our possibly worst tackler on the team at safety. We would see all the Jefferson's of the SEC running 80 yard TDs up the middle. I say leave Waggner to battle Lanier for the final CB spot. Teague has his CB spot on lock. Have Moore and Brewer at the Safety spots and you still have one hell of a secondary.

Teague is an avg CB at best, I dont see how you guys just pencil him in as starter. we have 2 potential special guys coming in from Juco

Potential being the key word. I seem to remember everybody being excited about Willingham and McKenzie too. Teague did play average but the talent is there. Everybody knows about the position switch, but he only played DB in key spots his senior year.

I agree that both JUCO guys are special. I have projected Moore and Lanier as starters. Moore at S with Brewer. And Lanier at CB with Teague. I know Teague isn't anything flashy at CB, but would you rather have Waggner or Gordon over him? Waggner has the ball skills, but we all know his tackling is a liability. I'm not too sold on Gordon yet. Teague is a solid option at CB. I think he is way more consistent than Waggner and Gordon.

Average at best? Let me guess, a lot of players that have practiced DB in college for 2 months come at looking like world beaters. That statement is a joke.

Im not a fan of any CB we had playing last yr...

Im all for new faces.

Hopefully with experience some of those guys have improved.

what dont you understand? how is that a joke. I dont care if he played 4 yrs or 4 days, he's average, if he improves, great. right now, he is average

he wouldnt start at any other SEC school

now wheres the punchline ?

What don't you understand? He was basically a Freshman with less practice time at DB. You said he is average, at best. The "At best" part means that no matter how good he learns the system, he will always be average. That is beyond dumb even for you.
