Jackson has been great at safety, but IMO he doesn't/can't pack enough weight on his frame to play safety in the NFL. Gonna have to be a CB. Isn't his weight around 165 or so? I seem to remember Rucker saying that during the season. Bob Sanders would be the NFL exception to the rule, but he's heavier/stockier than JJ. Even EB is borderline undersized. Long story short, I think the staff will make every effort to get JJ to CB.

nope more like 185#

After watching his highlights I think we would do his best work at safety. He has so much range with his height and leaping ability. Also we could put him on an athletic TE and take him out of the game on passing down. He plays well in the box too. I really hope he plays safety for us even though he said he's playing CB. Janzen at CB would be a monster along with Brewer(who I expect to really improve) and Moore at the safety spots. The other CB is going to be a hot topic. I think Izzy could take it. And don't sleep on Coleman. This secondary will be a lot better than last years that's for sure.

Everything seems about right except I don't see Lanier starting at the other CB spot. I'm thinking it's Teague's spot to lose with Waggner and Gordon getting some PT with the Nickel package as well.

185-190 for Jackson. He was 170-175 his freshman year. Moore has the natural size of a safety and he plays very well at safety. Thing is Jackson played safety because we had to put our best player in a position to clean up mistakes. Hence the name "Eraser". Moore and Brewer hopefully can help him out a lot in the back end of the defense. Moore's range is very impressive when he lines up at safety. And he plays with an edge which I like.

I'll preface this by stating I learned defense watching the Miami Hurricanes and Dallas Cowboys of the early 90s. If you go back and watch the spring practice interviews from Knoxnews you'll see one with Terry Joseph talking about how Miami (of the 90s) moved safeties to corner. Lots of chase and tackle/shadowing/trail technique whatev.

To balance that, you need ballhawks in the middle. Almost on every play, you'd see two safeties 20 yards down field. While they could clean up anybody else's messes and knock somebody out, they were back there to steal the ball. Ed Reed a mile back, then getting a pick.

Good tackling corners and ballhawk safeties. That's why I'm thinking JJ and Brewer stay where they are, and Lanier and Moore at the corners.

Regardless, the nickel corner is going to be better than the #1 corner was last year.

You would have to think that Bray is going to get even better having to throw against these guys in practice. This is shaping up to be one of the best defensive backfields TN has fielded in a long time.

Welcome to the HILL, B Moore. Glad to have you as a VOL. Get ready to do some slobberknocking.
:clapping:

Welcome Mr. Moore! This class looks better and better! If you're not first you're last!

Went to bed early cause I thought I was flying to Buffalo for a business trip early this morning...

Woke up to the news that the trip is cancelled because of weather...then I come here and see this...

DOUBLE BOOOOOMMMM!!!!

HUUUUGGGGE pickup...day 1 starter...the coaches can figure out the best rotation but I have no doubt Moore will be a stud at either CB or safety

Great get! Glad I didn't stay up for it, though. Reading the thread was "Moore" entertaining, methinks. ;-)

some guy just said on the radio show "who wants to go to Tennessee?!".... then the guy said theyre gonna have all of vol nation huntin that guy down. and then they played rocky top. But long story short.... i would gladly kill that caller for saying that in front of bmoore

 :shhh:

First of all welcome to Big Orange Country Byron Moore!! HUGE pickup!

I'm glad I had to go to sleep early bc I went back & read probably 30 pages on everybody waiting on the announcement & I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Commercials about malt liquor, sounded like the guys were playing drinking games, & a baby crying in the background. Sounded like everyone on VN was ready to punch their computer screens. Lmao!! Funny stuff guys.

And Randolph just named Parade All-Am. And I like Waggner (5 picks, 3 TDs). And who's to say Teague and Gordon won't be even more improved.

You were very close to getting a visit from the Volnation ninjas....then you acknowledged the hair. Nice save!
