Everybody plays the mid-majors. But seriously, does Duke ever play a Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, UCLA, or just some big D-1 program @ home, other than conf opponents. I dont think they go on the road. I know theyve played Georgetown recently and they played TX in NY. But Duke will not play a home-home series against another quality D-1 opponent.
As far as the schedule, since Pearl wants to play all over the state of TN. I think them and VA Tech should play @ Viking Hall in Bristol every year. It's a great setting and will have a beautiful atmosphere.
Opponents dont want to play Duke at home. FYI Duke is rumored to play UConn and Notre Dame this year at home. Not to mention the Big Ten Tourney they do every year so they will end up playing Indiana, Illnois, or someone else from the Big Ten. Dont get me wrong I love Tennessee. But the basketball program at UT will never be what it is at Duke, UNC, Indiana..etc...but in the same light, the football program will never be as intense at Duke, UNC, etc..it will always be overshadowed by the basketball program. Tennessee is going to have a amazing team this year..maybe even a championship year I am prediciting... but till the day they cram 107,000 people to watch a basketball game, TN will be a football driven school.

I did not say they could not co-exist. I have supported TN bball forever. What makes me sick as being a TN fan, is a couple years ago I went to my first TN game when they played SC. I could about count the fans on my hands that were there. All of a sudden, ppl are liking TN basketball b/c they are doing good. And as far as me watching TN football having another "meddling season" when was the last time the bball team won the SEC...oh wait never. Trust me I will be rooting UT basketball on, as a matter of fact I am sure I will be one of the many screaming idiots on the sidelines. It would be foolish to say UT bball has half of the expectations as the basketball programs at UCLA, Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, etc.
UT basketball already has top 5 attendance in basketball. BP is going to prove that you can have Duke, UNC expectations along with Tennessee football expectations.

Over what, the past 2 years? They also have the 2nd largest arena as well. Cameron for instance, only seats 11,000 and you have ppl camping for weeks just to get tickets to one game. For me it is kinda like comparing the Braves and the Red Sox...both are good, but there is always going to be more people and more excitement with the Red Sox.

Yall totally missed my point, and obviously are not going to get it either. I just simply am saying the expectations are totally different. Anyone the takes off their orange shaded glasses will see that. Im not taking the side of any one team. Trust me, I would love to see TN bball become one of the most dominant programs ever. That is going to take time. And your right, the Mears era was great..and their has been flashes of greatness. It has just lacked consistancy. Every single year you know the elite programs like Duke, UNC, UCLA are going to be good..regardless. And those programs have that "awe" and "fear" that just simply comes with their name. I do hope Pearl stays and wins many championships and establishes something really special.

I don't wear orange shaded glasses, ask anyone on this board who knows me.
Again you missed the point....Who was DUKE in the 70's?
your point was that UT basketball won't have the expectations and won't get ever get the same sense of "awe" that UCLA, Duke, and UNC have. I understand that, but I think you are wrong. All it takes to do that is 1. support-plenty of diehard UT fans, no problem there, 2. coaching- BP is a great recruiter and plays a great style which will allow him to take UT basketabll to new heights. If he stays with UT for about 15 years, and wins a natl. champioship or 2, if we are consistenly good, UT will have the same "awe" and respect of the Duke programs. All it takes is one great coach.
Duke has not been an all-time great program at all. They weren't good until the end of the century, and they were just like Tennessee, an up and coming underdog who everyone jumped on the bandwagon of. Then they won all those championships and people jumped off and started hating them.
