⚽️SOCCER THREAD #2 LADY VOLS @ WCU ESPN+ 8/31 6pm

Angela Kelly got lucky to have a couple of players whose club coach had direct connections to the national team. Now, that connection is gone. Yikes. In my opinion, this coach is not a good coach. She simply got lucky in a window of opportunity and is writing her résumé on the fact that she was part of a national team in her youth that won when women's soccer wasn't internationally developed. She stinks.

Tim is awesome! Such a positive presence. Glad his daughter is here. She will develop, progress and be an important part of this team.

… not intimated
They have passed the intimidation tests. It’s now about maintaining focus and keeping their grind on.

…avoiding this particular thread, in this particular forum, may serve them well. We will assuredly be watching the polls and ratings. Possibly appropriate if administered with a grain of salt.

I’d be curious how they seek to avoid losing focus. Seems like that tennis thingie competition seems to help break the tension and create a sense of confident preparedness.

About that tennis thingie competition, I don’t get it. They have teams of 2 playing against each other but it looks like there are several teams playing at the same time. Additionally they keep running from one side to the other in a circle.

May Eternal Butt Hurt afflict that fanbase.

Brian Pensky can eabod.
Okay, so I had to look that up. EABOD. The variety of Google responses I received was not confidence inspiring!

One AI overview said:
"eabod" does not appear to be a recognized word or acronym in standard English; however, it's possible it's a typo, a misspelling of another term like "ad hoc" or "end of day" (EOD).

Another AI overview said:
The abbreviation "EABOD" likely stands for End of Another Boring Day.

The next three entries had it correct, spelling out the vulgarism. But Reddit spelled it out with this added interpretation:
"E-A-B-O-D = Eat A Bag Of D_cks, meaning “hello in EvE."
I think I'll use that to greet everyone over in the gameday thread this morning!

Next, slang.org had "An acronym frequently used in texting and online chat, translating loosely to 'say whatever' or 'sure, why not', signaling nonchalance or mild indifference." So the next time someone invites me over for dinner, I'll respond...

But aabbreviations.com told me what I really wanted to hear:
"EABOD. Eat a Bag of Donuts"

When I lived in New Orleans, I had a job for several years on the westbank of the river. Driving through Gretna on Monday mornings, I would stop at a local donut shop and pick up a $5 bag of donuts leftover from the weekend. For only $5 I got a 13 gallon kitchen garbage bag filled with all kinds of donuts, stuck to each other in one, big, gooey mass!

I'd set the bag on the office kitchen table, slit it open, and everyone would descend upon it like a pack of vultures pulling out the choice bits from a mass of mangled roadkill. Good memories.

Chuckiepoo speaks his own language, it’s very hip and I end up googling most of it.
I’m thinking,CP meant the Richard version.

…thats a lot of dicks…
Were you commenting on my post -- or the Football game thread? 😬

Some Vol podcaster needs to feature a psychologist's analysis of some of the posters over there! 🧐Scapegoating... PTSD... campaigns of denigration... there's definitely a DSM-5 appendix-worth waiting to be mined over there. 📒

Cullowhee, N.C. – The No. 2/4 Tennessee soccer team looks to extend its winning streak to five matches as it heads to Western Carolina for a 6 p.m. ET match on Sunday.

The Lady Vols (4-0-0) are coming off four straight shutout victories to start the season and have outscored opponents 15-0 in that span.

Transfer forward Shae O'Rourke has paced the squad so far with at least one goal per match (five total) and has secured three game-winners for the Big Orange.

The Catamounts (2-2-1) are coming off a 3-2 victory over North Carolina State. WCU has scored eight goals on the season while also conceding that amount.

TRENDING UP: Tennessee's no. 2 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll on Aug. 26 marks the highest-ever ranking in program history. It is the first time the Lady Vols have won four consecutive games to open the season since 2021, and it is the best start in the Joe Kirt era.

SHAE'S BACK: Redshirt junior Shae O'Rourke made her long-awaited debut for the Lady Vols in the season opener against top-ranked defending national champion North Carolina, returning to action after missing the entire 2024 season and spending 15 months sidelined. She scored twice in the historic win and has added three more goals in as many games since, leading her new team to a 4-0 start.

CLEAN SHEET x4: Sophomore GK Cayden Norris hasn't allowed a goal through 4 starts. Tennessee remains the only team in SEC to not allow a goal in 2025.

STAYART STEPPING UP: Redshirt senior Jenna Stayart has started all four games this season for the Lady Vols, already marking a career high in starts in the early season. The midfielder has scored once and added two assists, showing strong form while controlling the center of the field.

MATCHUP HISTORY: The Lady Vols hold a 3-0-0 all-time record against Western Carolina, including two wins in Knoxville and one at the Clemson/Nike Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, in 2002. The programs last faced off on Sept. 13, 2009, when Tennessee earned a 2-1 win behind an 83rd-minute game-winner. At the time, current head coach Joe Kirt was in his third season as an assistant with the Lady Vols. Sunday's matchup will mark Tennessee's first-ever trip to Cullowhee.
