“Gimmick” offense

This “gimmick” is why 4 and 5 star QBs and 4 and 5* WRs are lining up to come play in this offense. Wait till we have a stable of lock down DBs that make life miserable for opposing receivers.

I think, with wise choices and development....CJH has shown that it's sustainable year to year. Unlike CBJ's......it was pretty clear his wasn't. Never would be.
And even when successful, CBJ’s teams were roller coaster rides, never a solid 60 minute effort. Too often requiring miracle comebacks. CJH teams come out of the gate firing and don’t let up

This offense is a constant attack. We don't play for field position. Every time we get the ball it's score or bust. That gives DCs heart burn
It is the football version of Patton’s real war offense
“Attack rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, without rest, however tired and hungry you may be, the enemy will be more tired, more hungry. Keep punching.”
“Nobody ever defended anything successfully, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.”

@igotworms - that's sort of what I figured just wanted to be sure. GOAT had no answers for it. I'd call that great execution and brilliant. Nothing gimmick about it at all. I think it's odd some of our own fans also refer to it as "gimmicky" tho.

But aren’t some of the concepts still the same or am I off
It was the Mark Mangino variation of Mike Leach's offense. Wasn't as high flying or high tempo and there was more emphasis on the rushing attack. What Heupel employs currently is his take on Art Briles Veer and Shoot that he sped up and added more components.

JG got lit up because he didn’t make reads anywhere near as quickly as hooker, because he didn’t make any pre snap reads.
Hooker has basically 3 options in mind when he’s made his pre snap reads. Deep ball if blitz is picked up, check down if deep is not open, or scramble. On run plays he has three as well, handoff, keep or scramble and see who gets open to pass.

He usually seems to have a preferred 1 and 2 already picked, discarding the third option. This gives him one thing to look at and make a decision while a defense has to defend all 3.
JG tried to choose between three options after the snap and usually ended up with option 4 getting sacked instead.

Great quarterbacks know they have to make decisions extremely fast or they lose all advantages of being on offense. Peyton was very quick to make decisions, Brady is,
Ok but our OL hasn’t played this well in years. Our RB may rarely break plays more than 30 yards but they rarely get tackled for loss. Contrast that to Pruitts first year where we had the highest % in the country.

Same thing was said about Spurriers fun and gun offense. I remember that being said about the Houston Oilers back in the day with Warren Moon doing the run and shoot. Chip Kelly and Art Briles also supposedly has gimmick offenses. I don’t get it. What’s gimmick about designing plays to get your best playmakers open and get them the ball??

My buddy, a gator fan, and I were talking about that. He said heupel reminds him of Steve spurrier. It’s not only because of his resume as a player; but it’s because he is changing the game.
we are so fortunate to have a head coach that’s innovative. It’s rare! I truly believe he is going to change the game. To me, why don’t people line up so wide? It creates 1 on 1’s while allowing a major run game. His philosophy has exposed that it is possible to open the field like a video game. Wait until the D slows down points.
But I believe our d is perfect for our style of play. Bend but don’t break. Bama we broke a lot, but it is BAMA, with the heisman trophy winner, and a squad that is like a semi pro team!!! Ya that’s right we beat THAT TEAM!! Oh man, it’s vibing like 98- didn’t mean to repost

Georgia might have the muscle to slow us down considerably. Let's hope our plan for them works like our plan for Bama did.
Will be a different plan to create and take advantage of mismatches. Going 4 wide will create mismatches and open running lanes.

It's not Spurrier's "Fun n Gun"

It's not Urban's "Give 'em a gun....."

New O doesn't need a name.... just win

I can remember people saying our offense was a gimmick and that SEC coaches would figure it out in year two. We just hung 52 on some team south of here in year 2. I’m smiling from ear to ear.
They call it a gimmick offense because its simple and their teams cant stop it. Pisses em off pretty bad that UT has wide open recievers every few plays

Even Saban admitted our offense created mismatches. They adjusted and still couldn't handle it. That should put an end to the discussion

tan was eluding to Superior Coaching - cannot say enough about CJH and his ENTIRE staff. Those mismatches did not happen by accident. Go Vols

The “no huddle offense” was used by Sam Wyche when he coached the Bengals. Urban brought us the “spread”. Huepel has just taken it to the next level. The people that call it gimmicky are the same people that can’t stop it. Huepel also is the best play caller I’ve seen since Spurrier.

This offense is turning the old “defense wins championships” wisdom on its head…I don’t see anyone (even UGA) on our schedule that can consistently stop and/or keep pace with our offense
agreed. The only team I'm seeing honestly aside from Bama is Ohio State.

Who cares what they call it. It works, we have it and they don’t. Coach JH simply out coaches other coaches and has enough talent to out score them. I LIKE it.
