Yep! I don't know the exact figure, but some crazy percentage of the last several National Championship winners have had the best recruiting class at some point? Or at least Top 3? Regardless...we're not even sniffing that at this point.
Quarles was seriously considering going for two himself if you watched the game on TV. He was holding up 1 finger and asking his assistant coaches for their input...I don't blame Ravenwood for going for the win considering how far Maryville came back.
What Maryville found out against Whitehaven is that the refs are clueless...illegal man downfield on a 2 pt conversion? Refs make the correct call there...Maryville wins again...against a team that had something like 13 Division 1 commitments. They had no business being in that game and SHOULD...
Maybe I'm biased, but I still believe that Tennessee was/is the best open job in college football. There are simply too many things to make it otherwise...tradition, facilities, stadium, salary and recruiting budgets, etc.
Bottom line...the head coach of LOUIS-FREAKING-VILLE should NEVER be...
If anyone had told me in the 90's that we would not be able to hire away the coach of LOUISVILLE, I would have bet my current and future life savings on it. Unbelievable how poorly UT has been run the past 10 years. Not all of this can be blamed on coaches or football, either.
Right now...Fedora and Franklin (in that order). Patterson doesn't have the personality to get fans and recruits fired up IMO. Stoops is a pipe dream...Golden is overrated...and Strong just doesn't do it for me. Honestly, I can't stand Franklin. I think he's a crybaby. But 8 wins at Vandy...
I honestly am past caring at this point. If it's not Gruden, no one is going to excite me. We'll just get the same dog and pony show we've had with Kiffin and Dooley at the pressers:
- Put a fence around the state (recruiting)
- Strong assistant staff
- Best facilities in the country
-...
Wow...how short are people's memories? Have they forgotten the USA Today article about him losing control of the program...or his lack of recruiting the final few years...or his OC debacles after Cutcliffe?
Ditto. At some point, it just gets too ridiculous. So many good coaches could be had for less. We could get Stoops for less than that...and he's a truly proven college coach.
Let's not forget that if Gruden starts winning, his salary and years will only go up. At some point, NO ONE can...
Honestly...I'm getting sick of the James Franklin posts. Go post in HIS thread if you have a man-crush on him. He's an overrated crybaby who has won a few games against down SEC teams. Vandy will never be "Stanford East," regardless of recruiting class rank. And even if all those recruits...
