This was a different UT team that lost to Georgia State. The Vols played lights out for a full quarter and could have made it to the second half within a few points of Georgia with a few breaks. I think the big takeaway from this game was you have identified a young leader. The kid has talent...
Young Mauer gave it all he had. He just needed some help. Tennessee has the horses but is going to have to put 4 quarters together. I was proud of the Vols through most of the half. Had they not given up those last points before half, it would have been a different game.
Tennessee may be down, but it is a national brand in athletics. The first thing UT must do is keep its stud high school talent from leaving the state. That’s a must, at least until it’s able to cherry pick outside the state. Next, they need to rob the JUCO ranks. A lot of these kids are...
Oklahoma lost two QBs to transfer. Austin Kendall went to West Virginia and is the starting QB there. Justice Hanson went to Arky State and started there his entire time. Both were really good QBs under Riley. Just got a little crowded in Norman.
Great points. I certainly agree with your overall rationale, but in today’s world where winning now is the standard, I’m not sure building the “system” is feasible. This is the million dollar question: Does Pruitt take the time to methodically recruit to his offensive and defensive game...
I’m impressed with the Vol D-line. They get really good pressure, but they aren’t getting any help from the secondary. The CBs have got to step up and make some plays. Too many open gaps over the middle as well. The talent is there, the plays aren’t unfortunately.
Thought this might be interesting for you guys that don’t believe a quick turnaround is possible...
OU Football 1995-2000.......................................................UT Football 2015-2019
1995 Howard Schnellenberger 5-5-1....................................2015 Butch Jones 9-4...
I’m sympathetic, but not that generous! Talk about manna from heaven. We would probably be playing a true freshman (Rattler) if Hurts wouldn’t have shown up. Good try though.
I actually agree. You guys have some really good talent-way better than OU had when we were down. Sometimes it takes a few games to jell. If the Vols could knock off Florida and get some momentum, it could resurrect you guys.
We had him at Oklahoma for one year as offensive coordinator (1999). Guy was dynamite. He installed the spread and the next year we won the NC. With the right program and a rock star DC, he would be incredible. He always put the right guys in the right position to make a play.
