Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

No... Conzo is here for another year, unfortunately that's the way it's going to be and we knew Pearl was going to get hired... the good news is it wasnt by a great program.. Auburn is the Pearl place holder for Tennessee.

The BBB movement is still very much alive. :hi:

lol. you are delusional

As much crap as I've given you, at least you didn't say you were going to root for Auburn like that other jackwad did.

Kudos, and I'm being serious.

Every UT fan I've talked to is pretty upset. How do you not re-hire the guy in this scenario? Does this guarantee Cuonzo a few more years?

1. Not upset. Glad that coach Pearl is back in coaching.

2. Couldn't rehire em cause we dont have a vacancy.

3. IMO Cuonzo got another year with this NCAA tourn bid. Next year will determine if he gets a long term extension or let go.

No, this proved Pearl was never an option to come back.

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel Bruce had to have been informed he would not be offered the TN job (if available) or he wouldn't have jumped so quickly at the Auburn job. If he thought there was a chance, I think he would have waited to see how things played out here. Auburn would have waited. I heard a year ago the reason Auburn didn't fire their coach last year was because they wanted Bruce so they would have waited for his decision.

Auburn finished 12th in the SEC this year. We finished 4th. Prob can switch those for next year.

Martin has finished 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the SEC. I dont see 12th next year. I'm not Martin's biggest fan, but this is ridiculous.

It's quite obvious now Pearl was never going to be an option here. I have to believe if he was, Pearl wouldn't have accepted the Auburn job today.

That is of course, the other talk that went around was true, that Pearl really did NOT want to come back here.

I think they were waiting to see if Cuonzo made the tournament. Now that he has he's got two more years. He will get a contract extension too.

Oh come on. In reality, the kid that got him in trouble didn't even come to UT. I've never seen what the the big deal was since just about every coach in the ncaa has lied about something. Take the Miami situation. Frank Haith was suspended like 5 games for lying about covering up giving MIAMI players illegal benefits. Bruce lied about having a kid (who didn't even come here) over to a BBQ, and got a 3 year show clause that basically made it impossible to hire him.

And you probably thought Kiffin and Orgeron were swell dudes as well. I don't settle and/or compromise on coaches. You can be great and honest, we fans should expect both, not one or the other.

What's next, hire Jim Tressel for the football program? NO THANKS!

Bruce never was getting his old job back. Everybody with common sense knew that - including Bruce.

For all those thinking Auburn is suddenly going to become a basketball force in the SEC, ask yourself this question; can Pearl win without cheating? He cheated abundantly while at UT, and yes, that led to some success, although it didn't lead to any championships of note, unless the 2008 regular season SEC gets you all excited. One has to presume since he was fired in disgrace for cheating/lying that he'll clean up his act at Auburn and not lie/cheat. I'm not sure he can win without the shadiness.

He wasn't accused of cheating to get players All the discretions were minor and wouldn't have gotten anyone in trouble. It was just the routine secondary violations that schools turn in by the boatload full every year. He did the incredibly dumb thing of lying about it to the NCAA. The violations he committed are now legal with the NCAA>

I'm disappointed in my generation. It seems to be the 20 somethings that are so willing to root against their school... It's kind of pathetic.

Don't feel bad, I'm 31 and just had a buddy that's 35 call and say "Well, I've always liked going to games down their any way..."

WTF is that?

This is a great day for Tennessee, because hopefully it will shut those "Pearl sack swingers" up for a year or three. Now, fans can get behind this current team and coach as they prepare for a deep NCAA run.

@JHokanson: Former Vols assistant Tony Jones is under serious consideration to follow Bruce Pearl to #Auburn. Retaining Ryan Miller is possible also.

@zvetitz: Bruce Pearl's introductory press conference will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Auburn Arena. Fans are welcome, through the scholarship entrance

i think its funny to listen to those that think Pearl was the only coach ever lied!!! coach cal has lied about grades and act's! i am not saying Pearl is the only guy that can bring us back but anybody that thinks martin is the answer has lost their damn mind!!!!!!!!

Look at his past rosters and the one we are going to have next year. No PG, No Big, Nobody that can score. It's not going to be pretty.

Here the problem. No pearl supporter said no one else CAN win here, history of the program just does not support a high likely hood of it.

Our opening has piqued the interest of very good coaches over the last several years. It's not a matter of attracting the right coaches, it's a matter of hiring them.
