Auburn hires Bruce Pearl

Auburn really has nothing to lose by hiring him. It's not like they have some pure reputation to protect as an athletic dept. and so what if they did get placed on probation? What would that really mean except a post-season ban (they haven't been to the big dance since 2003 and only 8 times in their history anyway) and some scholarship losses. It makes perfect sense for them to hire Pearl.

Apparently you've missed some of the Pearl fanatics around the basketball forum.

No, I've not. But the fanatics want UT BASKETBALL to win. They want Pearl because he brought UT basketball out of retirement. People aren't going to quit being Vol fans for Pearl. That's ridiculous.

I think it's a great hire for Auburn; however I think it's a crap job for Pearl, and I doubt he stays long.

Exactly. Pearl fans will leave, Vol fans will stay.

Again, you've not paid a lot of attention to some of the posters in the basketball forum. Some have literally said they'll stop supporting UT basketball if Pearl is not rehired.

Excellent. Now there will be nothing to distract us from Cuonzo's boring, inconsistent, and thoroughly mediocre brand of basketball.

Will be shocked if he goes to Auburn. This should be his last choice.

Those that literally say that are either bluffing or only watched during the Pearl years. No Vol fan is jumping on an Auburn bandwagon.

If I'm Pearl, I wait one more year. His options this year will be severely limited due to his show cause not expiring until August. One more year and he secures a much better job IMO.

He's going to have whoever he wants in the state of Georgia. Go and look at our roster and see how many of our players are from there.

Under Armour School.
Terrible basketball tradition.
Worst fanbase in the SEC, support wise.

If he takes the job, he's taking arguably the worst basketball job in the SEC. Will he get them better? Very likely, but I'll believe it when I see it that he does anything close to what he did at UT.

Truth.

We get stuck with Cuonzzzzzzzzzzo while our competitors get Pearl? Hope the Martin fanatics are happy when this program is in a decline.

Hard to get much worse than Auburn

He can dip into FL too. There's a lot of talent in FL. He probably still has some ties to Tennessee, especially west TN so I could see him pulling some talent out of Memphis as well.

I would too. The only reason I would think he would take it is if for whatever reason he's not getting near as much interest behind the scenes as he thought.

But even if that's true, I'd still wait a year because as you said, the show cause is gone which may be hindering even the behind the scenes interest. Plus Auburn is the pits of the SEC.
