Utah State opens as early Vegas favorite @Tennessee

I think y'all have drunk a little too much of:

A. The SEC kool-aid
B. The Neyland stadium/UT crowd kool-aid

The SEC is terrific. The fact is that UT is FAR from competitive in the SEC at this time. UT is 4-20 (0.167 winning percentage) over the past 3 seasons in league. You are part of the SEC, but you are certainly not a team that is driving or even really having any influence on the national reputation of the SEC at this time. I believe you will get back to where you are one of the powers of the SEC, but it is going to take some time and some grinding to get there.

Neyland is terrific. What a beautiful facility and setting for college football! What an amazing fanbase and crowd! Unfortunately, the team that calls Neyland home was trounced by more than 4 TD's on 4 seperate occassions just last season with most of the same upperclassmen and same coach you will have this year.

UT had a great home victory against USCe last year. I'm sure the home crowd had something to do with that. Beyond USCe, what games did Neyland carry? FCS - Austin Peay? Recent FBS move-up WKU? That doesn't really impress.

The crowd may be off the charts for opening day this year and it may have some influence on the game. I don't believe that the UT crowd following 3 seasons of 5-7 will be different or better than Wisconsin coming off a Rose Bowl or Auburn coming off a national championship. What if Utah State comes out and scores a couple on UT quick? After 6 tough seasons, how might that crowd react?

It's funny, because most UT fans seem to be calling for just 6-7 wins. Yet, when you speak of the Utah State game, most of you can't envision anything other than a UT blow-out. It will be interesting. All I have ever said is that I think it will be a close and competitive game. That statement really seems to ruffle some feathers around here.

You have said far more than that.

You seem to be making a serious error in logic. You seem to think that because we have not been at Bama, etc level, we are at USU's level. You have not understated UT's level of play, but you have overstated USU's. Sorry. It's just true.

You are a troll, and it's very obvious. That's cool. I'm OK with it. But the only other thing I'll type in your direction is this:

Will you be here after the game-- win, lose or smack-down? That's really the only conversation I'll see any need having with you going forward.

You guys are a hoot. UT has won 5 league games in the last 3 years.

However, Utahjr. is not in the SEC. Tennessee has won 11/12 non-conference games over that same period, with the lone loss coming at Oregon.

this guy will disappear after August 30th. Just like that NC State Troll did.

he keeps telling us how we have been 5-7 the last three years.

we know our record recently. i also know you went 8-5 in the regular season and didnt beat anyone worth a crap really. i also think the difference in the level of athletes will shock you in August.

I have poked with a few facts that UT fans don't seem to want to deal with. That's true.

I'm trying to be fair with where UT is at and where Utah State is at. There is no doubt which program is stronger. It would take a great game by Utah State and a poor game by UT for Utah State to win.

I'm not predicting that. I'm predicting a close, hard-fought battle.

Is UT today better than the 2013 USCw team that won 10 games?

Is UT today better than the 2012 Wisconsin team that played in the RoseBowl?

Is UT today better than the 2011 Auburn team that went on to be Chick-fil-A Bowl champions.

I think those three teams would all say that we gave them a very good game.

It will be a fun and very interesting game.

I doubt that. Do you have better athletes than USCw? Do you have better athletes than Auburn? Do you have bigger and stronger linemen than Wisconsin?

You had a great victory last year against USCe. Remind me again of all the other great teams UT defeated last year. Or in '12. Or in '11.

well said Orange Crush...they can make fun of our record all they want but if they had our schedules they would be a 2-10 type team. im okay with it, i like how they think we are terrible. let them underestimate a team that will be playing a night game at home on opening weekend.

See, again, we don't need a guy like you, from a virtually non-existent program and conference, coming on our board telling us how bad our program has been the last 10 years chief. We got it..... our administration made some incredibly poor hiring decisions beginning with our former AD Mike Hamilton and ending with the worst head coach in our school's history... yet we're still 1 of only 2 teams in the history of college football who have never had an 8 loss season..... playing one of the nation's toughest schedules year in and year out.

There are plenty of good rival team posters on here.... hell, one of my favorite posters on here, period, is a Florida guy, arguably our most important and hated rival. He's articulate, respectful, critical at times and credible.... and welcome IMO.

You on the other hand are failing miserably at trying to walk a tightrope between talking up Neyland stadium and the SEC while stating the obvious about how much our team has sucked the last decade. It's neither appreciated nor welcomed. Run along and talk smack on mighty Idaho State's message board.... you've worn out your welcome here.

Or Hawaii. Wait. They have a recent win against the mighty USU aggs, who are obviously mid-SEC worthy-- if only they weren't stuck in the WAC.

Don't get your magic underpanties in a bunch. You poked the bear and got a rise out of us. Congratulations.

I only hope your football staff, like you, thinks the last 3 seasons are representative of this program, its players, and its coaches.

if you played USCw in November they would have hammered you. also, did you win against any of those teams?

Yeah. We might do worse than 5-7. But not by much.

The SEC portion of the schedule is a doozey! The OOC? Not so much...

Austin Peay/Western Necktuky/South Alabama/Georgia State/Akron/Troy/Buffalo/MUTS are not exactly an all-star line-up.

Lolololol.

You guys are a hoot. UT has won 5 league games in the last 3 years.

Yet you talk like you are Bama, UGA, and LSU all rolled into one.

I am sorry if my prediction of a ccompetitive game has left you all feeling butthurt and sad.

It is nothing personal against the vols. It is just based on similar game situations over the past several years.

I will work on being less audacious in the future.

Most folks on here actually agreed with you, that it would be a close game but UT should win in the end.

The pizzy attitudes started from the relentless "keep it real" jabs of USU fans.

Also, it didn't help your non troll status when USU fans were followed back to your board posting such as "you should see how we're trolling UT fans", and congratulating each other on said trolling jobs.

The GoDucks poster from Oregon can tell you how well he was treated here...which= good

The VawlHater poster on your board, which sounds eerily like immyaxl, can tell you how he was treated here....which = gone

Sadly, your posts have appeared more like immyaxl than GoDucks. Momma always said " you boys play nice, or you'll get the belt on that butt".

I have poked with a few facts that UT fans don't seem to want to deal with. That's true.
Not me... and you are still trolling.

I'm trying to be fair with where UT is at and where Utah State is at. There is no doubt which program is stronger. It would take a great game by Utah State and a poor game by UT for Utah State to win.

I'm predicting that your moment in the sun is now over. You were a bottom feeder for years, "lucked up" by hiring an up and comer coach, and then fell off last year. Your fastest DB is a guy who couldn't cut it at UT. Again, you are going to be shocked by the athletic mismatch between UT's WR's and your DB's.

Is UT today better than the 2013 USCw team that won 10 games?
UT will not enter the game with a coach that the players and everyone else had given up on. So yes, they will be better... and you won't be as good.

Is UT today better than the 2012 Wisconsin team that played in the RoseBowl?
Maybe not... but they aren't playing your '12 team or '12 coach.

Is UT today better than the 2011 Auburn team that went on to be Chick-fil-A Bowl champions.
Once again, you won't have your '11 team or coach.
I think those three teams would all say that we gave them a very good game.
Yes. But they are just slightly more relevant than the thrashing you took from OU in 2007 or from Oregon in 2008. Andersen built your program for 4 years culminating in probably the best year in the history of your program in '12 with players he had been developing for 3 to almost 5 years. What we will see this fall is if '12 was anything more than the afterglow of those players leaving the program.

It will be a fun and very interesting game.

Based on what I know of your team and the reports coming out of UT's spring... I don't think you will find it fun and only morbidly interesting as a USU fan.

Add an Oregon and Oklahoma-type OOC game to Bama, Auburn, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, SouthCarolina every year chief. Slightly more difficult than Idaho State, Hawaii, UNLV, WakeForest, Colorado State, New Mexico, Boise State and Wyoming, no?

Btw.... good luck with that 106th ranked 2014 recruiting class..... future looks really bright for you guys

Matt Wells and staff will prepare the team well. I'm confident of that.

You know what happens almost every time my wife and I take our Great Danes to the park? Chihuahuas start yapping at them. God's honest truth. Almost every time.

UT schedule is infinitely more difficult. I have never said anything other than that.

This does not make the 3-4 easy games on the schedule any less easy. BTW 80+% of those are at home.

I think you should respect any opponent. Even the so-called little ones. Many an over-confident smirking biggie has been "Max Schmelinged."

Oregon is an established program even if it has only been for 10 years. They are not. I respect the challenge they present but I dont hold them in the same regard as oregon.

You just made our point for us. Thank you. Our SEC schedule is brutal. That doesn't make our game against USU any less easy.

(Hint: You are part of our easy schedule. Get used to it.)

And of those 4 losses by 4 TDs how many were at home?

Really? How often does a fan base that has been through what we have in recent years sellout 102,455? If there's one thing that is surprising to everyone, it's how we still get that many fans with the seasons we've been having.

Btw, yes I'm telling you for a fact Wisconsin wouldn't hold a candle to neyland and auburn is about the only thing you have that you can claim coming close. Now add 20k people and a different designed stadium and you have a much louder experience.

"All I can remember is the stadium shaking," Percy Harvin said of his first game as a Gator in the largest stadium in the SEC. "That and not being able to hear (Tim) Tebow make the calls."

2. Tennessee - “Rocky Top” will be played 47 times throughout the game and you will know the words before you leave whether you like it or not. I have been to Knoxville twice with the most recent being the LSU game in 2006. Neyland Stadium is the best stadium I have seen built to keep noise inside the stadium. When LSU was faced with key 3rd and 4th down attempts late in the 4th quarter I could not hear my friend Greg Newman to my left. He was trying to tell me something and I felt deaf or hard of hearing for those twenty seconds. When the Vols run out of the power “T” the fans get pretty loud, but it is loud throughout the game.

It goes on and on... Oregon has been in some big games themselves. After playing us chip Kelly was interviewed. He said we talked all week about not being bothered by it, but once we walked out onto the field you could tell the players were in awe. They were staring around. We played at michigan I'm front of 115k, but it was nothing like neyland. The layout went out instead of up, so when you walk out it's like this skyward tower of fans all around you.

I'm sure if he was impressed after Michigan then Wisconsin won't compare.
