Utah State opens as early Vegas favorite @Tennessee

Okay... It's one thing to "hope" your team will win a game among those.

Bu what do you think? Why? Why just one? Which one?

i believe UT will be better than you think. theres many factors form other teams that you arent taking into account as well. you think we suck bc we lost to about 4 top 10 teams then thats fine. But we will be improved. think you want. enjoy seeing dan gray get torched.

This is all from a guy whose team has a history of losing to Hawaii and San Diego St. Take him with a grain of salt and as an opposing fan who is scared to death and on here trying to convince himself to have a little faith in his WAC conference champions.

Oh... Wait. They couldn't even win the WAC in their best year could they?

Right, but now we are starting the guys that were BEHIND those sucky players on the depth chart, as in not good enough to beat them out for the job.

if thats how you want to look at it then fine. do what you gotta do. but i think we will be alright.

Naw. I've never would say UT sucks. UT is an SEC team with proud tradition and history and a helluva program.

I do think things are on the rise for UT, but with your recent track record, I'm sure you will allow us a small slice of hope that we can be competitive in the game.

I have given some criticism.... but will put on my rose colored glasses and give you an answer to this that I think is not only possible but likely.

One, I think Jones DID play the outgoing players with the hopes of getting them drafted. That is one way to make the season a success... and a selling point to recruits. I think (and hope) that if a player is as bad as McCullers was at times last year that he will get benched. Two, I think Jones shelved some guys last fall to develop them physically rather than putting them in competition for playing time that they weren't going to win... and which would have held back their physical development. Three, one of the major tests of this staff is player development and S&C. I am MORE excited about what we've heard on that front than I am about the recruiting class. Last, the replacement DL's are going to be faster as a group AND are now developed to play with some power too. I believe they look like SEC versions of the types of DL's Jones had at Cincy.

Not being a smart aleck but have you looked at their early depth chart release? They replace playmakers. I don't think they have recruited well enough to just expect them to reload. Quarles, Sutton, and obviously Clowney were huge losses for them on D. Thompson isn't on par with Shaw.

I would actually give Jones credit for outcoaching SOS last year to get that win.

I also tend to think that UT is on a steeper portion of their exponential learning curve than USCe. They have leveled off in a mature system. UT's gains should be more significant.

I just see it a little differently. I think that will be a much tougher game to get a win than UF or Mizzoo.

Hasnt that been true for every year of the Muschamp era?

Also, Tennessee had a pretty wretched offense as well as defense and they lost tons of senior leadership, mostly on the lines and we HOPE we have a QB although last year was about the biggest QB cluster***** I have ever seen at UT so it's hard not to improve when you were at rock bottom.

If we couldnt beat a hapless Florida in 2012 with Tyler Bray and CP and JH at home in K-ville, I dont see how you can ever truly predict a win. You can say they will win a bunch and get lucky every now and then, but there is no grounds for predicting it.

Hard to take this analysis serious when referencing a Dooley coached team as no different than a Butch Jones coached team.

It all comes down to QB play. If the Vols get one of their QBs to play at an SEC level they will beat Utah State by a couple of TDs. But if you can't score you can't win. Pretty much simple as that.

I think it will be a good test for our defense. Their QB and offense can put pressure on a defense and really test the discipline. Good tune up game

After the game in 2012, I finally put to rest in my heart that Tennessee will always find a way to lose to Florida. We just do. I'm not saying they are incapable of winning, I'm just saying I'd never ever put my hard earned money down on a UT win, and I'd never mark it up as a "W" in my preseason prediction ever.

When Tennessee is up, Florida is also up and they win. When Tennessee is down and Florida is down, Florida still wins.

Victories against Florida are usually markers for especially good seasons for Tennessee. We dont usually beat Florida and we certainly dont usually beat them during a ho-hum season.

If we couldnt beat UF in 2012, then you can just never predict a UT win over UF. If it happens its a surprise.

Add when UT is up and Florida is down, Florida still wins and I'm with you 100%. No one in their right mind can ever predict a UT win over Florida at this point.... no way.

Was told you just couldn't pony up the cash to keep him.

This is what being an SEC member buys you. Even though Vandy is not a great program and they don't have great fan support or a huge stadium, they can still afford to pay their coaches much more than a G5 school like Utah State.

Lol. Can't help but laugh at this.

When asked where they have played that had a crowd that would compare to neyland they said the following:

aTm, USC, Wisconsin, Auburn, Boise, BYU, Utah.

There is a difference. I posted the last link so USU fans will know how they will be treated in Neyland.

You won’t find many more imposing venues in the country than the home of the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville, Tennessee. Neyland Stadium seats over 102,000 orange-clad fans in an enclosed bowl, making it as loud as it is large. Opened in 1921 as Shield-Watkins Field, this college football mecca originally seated just 3,200. It has grown by almost 100,000 in just under 100 years of Volunteer football. In 1962, it was renamed Neyland Stadium for recently deceased Athletic Director and Coach General Robert Neyland.

The Sporting News ranked Neyland Stadium as the #1 stadium in college football in 2001 and Sports Illustrated ranked a weekend in Knoxville as the best college football weekend experience in 2004. Tailgating on the Tennessee River is an event unto itself. While college football fans will always debate the best gameday experience, few would argue with you about ranking a game at Neyland as an essential on the college football bucket list

I suppose you are right. None of those teams were mired in 6 seasons of mediocre football at the time we played them.

You will see this fall, have you seen our practices updates? We have more talented players this upcoming season than we have had in a long time. I can't wait to see how Von Pearson does against you guys.

Great video. It is one of the great venues of college football.

Much respect for the Vol fans and Neyland.

However, just to keep it real...

2013 = 5-7
2012 = 5-7
2011 = 5-7

lets get really real now. 9-5, 11-2, 7-6, 4-8, 4-8, 3-9, 2-10, 1-11. That is Utah States last 8 years. Should I go further You have had 2 decent seasons in the Mountain West conference, now you think your somebody. Hahahahahahaha

If USU went 12-0 no one would notice so enjoy your trip to Knoxville if you come. It is a premiere football venue regardless of the record. It is bigger and louder than any USU has visited. You and your fans will be treated with class if you make the trip. I was just sharing some info but should have expected a little douchebaggery.
