Why we need to support Martin

Don't understand this, the length of the extension will probably be the standard 3 to 4 years. Correct?

Do they give him a raise.

If he makes the nit and is retained, I see 1-2 year extension. If he makes the dance and wins a national championship, I see a 5+ year extension.

You don't see the difference?

I don't have to support or anyone I don't want to. Win a few ball games and everyone wants to crown him Coach of the year.

You certainly don't. Your right. But if he does succeed, don't jump right back on because we won't let you.

It's easy to be a fan in the good times. It means that much more when you are a fan in the bad times.

Tell me when Martin finished .500 in conference or overall at Tennessee, which is precisely what his very first sentence said. Hmmm? Any time? No? Exactly.
:lolabove: Guess you'll try to explain away the 'fraction' part of your post next...

There was nothing in the post about finishing .500. Th reference was to starting the season to long stretches of .500 or slightly above .500 ball, topped off a by a furious finish to get the record up to .60 pct. You seemed to be indicating the long stretches of .500 or slightly above were the expectation and the furious finishes were the over achieving.

Ahhh, some clarification is always a good thing. Would've been appropriate to have that in the initial post.

Dictionary.com

Leader: a guiding or directing head.

Now, if you really feel that Martin only sits in his chair all game every game, instead of giving directions, (hey look, a directing head), you must sleep through 35+ minutes of every game. Or distracted by the shiny keys.

Of course shiny keys distract me, but only when I'm watching our half court offense slug around against weaker teams.

I'm pretty sure it's the "never took a team to the tourney thing" that makes people want to crucify him.

And if he doesn't make it this year, I'd agree entirely. Though, if Hart decides to keep him, I won't spend my time always complaining about it. And if he lets him go, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. As I've said time and again. What will you hang your hat on if/when he makes it?

At least we won't jump off a bridge when Pearl is not rehired.

Won't be jumping off a bridge either way, but at least I'm not touting a very mediocre coach either. You Fighting Martins reach so hard to provide stats that back up your guy that you make the statisticians in Washington proud.

I thought the second graph covered that. Maybe not.

So, when they play .500, that's the expectation and winning a few games in a row is overachievement? What coach wouldn't love that?!

I think they underachieved in the first half to 2/3rds of the last three seasons. For whatever reason, CCM doesn't seem to bring the sense of urgency to the team until their backs are against the wall. I don't know if he doesn't have the sense of urgency himself or if he has some fear of burning them out too early. Whatever the reason, there was no excuse for it this year with a veteran team. He really has to fix that tendency if he wants to be a good head coach.

Lame duck if true. Brilliant strategy. Keep a guy that everybody knows can't get the job done just because he finally landed a "milestone" tourney appearance. Nevermind the fact that we should have been a tourney team fighting for seeding a month ago. Lame duck coaches are also great for recruiting classes. Extending Martin is like sacrificing two years just because he managed to squeak into the tournament once in his 3 years on the job.

Something the Fighting Martins fail to understand. If the guy was recruiting well, there would be hope, but his recruiting is very average at best.

That's like using 4 different pronouns in one sentence without clarifying which one goes to what noun.

But...but...Bruce under-achieved his last year, so Martin is awesome!!

Absolutely correct. For the situation he is in, his recruiting is abysmal. I've never thought the last 2 years were horrendous under achievements. This year started that way but hopefully can be salvaged. But the outlook beyond this season is very bleak.

He needs better assistants to make up for his shortcomings at the very least. He needs an ace recruiter and someone who can gameplan and help with in game decisions.
