Both Memphis and UMass being forced to take down their Final Four banners is more than just someone's perception. That actually happened over infractions that occurred on his watch as head coach. Cal has chosen to associate with some unsavory types including William Wesley and play dumb when things turn sour but I agree that in terms of punishment Pearl really got the book thrown at him.

Right, like I said. Say what you want, lord knows I've said my share about the man, but Cal is less of a risk than Pearl. If it's simply for the fact he's got guys looking out for him, he is clearly smarter at cheating than Pearl, I think we can all agree on that.

I think its been shown get the right lawyer and stand up to the NCAA and all coaches are fairly safe.

Actually, I didn't really understand what you were trying to say either...I assume you were trying to communicate that you have a very good job...but it didn't make much sense to us plain ole laymen. :whistling:

this petition is flawed. Will have minimal impact on anything due to that. There are hundreds perhaps thousands of duplicated names. The petition failed to have controls in place to limit only having one entry per person.

On top of that, it is an open item to anyone in the world. There are thousands of entries from foreign countries and foreign names.

No validity that any business entity would pay attention to.. does more damage to Tennessee than anything else

I don't see many foreign entries on there. Most seem to be from Tennessee.

I haven't looked since 7 - 10 days ago. saw dozens at that time..

Some of that may have died down now but there is enough bogus entries that is hard to determine who is valid and who is not.

I've been saying on other message boards that if people want to make their voices heard call the Tennessee Fund. Tell them you are cancelling donations and tickets. that is what will cause Tennessee admin to take notice.

Has to be about the dollars.

I haven't checked it faithfully either lol. When I just looked, I scrolled and didn't see but one person from Germany and then realized I had only went back about 100 names and wouldn't bother.

And you are right. Money talks.

Most petitions are flawed for various reasons and have little to no impact on any decision making process and in this case isn't even needed. The UT administration understands there is heavy support among it's fan base for Pearl to return and they would have to be idiots to not understand why but we don't know what kind of noise big money boosters are making behind the scenes and that is where an impact can be made. My gut feeling is that if Martin is fired (and that is a big if) then it will be hard not to rehire Pearl for two reasons 1) It is hard to win here at bball and it will be hard to pass up someone that has done it when they want the job and are available and can likely be hired on the cheap. 2) If Pearl is hired somewhere else and is successful and stays out of trouble that would embitter this fan base beyond repair especially if Tennessee sinks even further. Someone posted earlier that firing Martin and hiring someone other than Pearl was a bigger risk than rehiring Pearl and I think that is true unless they know they can have an established coach from a major college program which isn't likely to happen.

Do you guys think pearl would struggle to recruit if he was coaching here again? IMO he couldn't do any worse than CCM but I only remember 1 5 star player under him (hopson).

I really didn't mean to sound like that. I was trying to say at my job you are held to the highest integrity level. He did accuse me of working at BK, not that there's anything wrong with working there.

So what is the latest? Are the insiders saying work is being done behind the scenes to secure Bruce as the next head coach? What does Bruce's agent think about him coming back to Tennessee? When is the presser?

As for recruiting, I wondered this same thing. I don't think it would matter. Kids want to win and go to the NBA. I doubt it makes much of a difference.

I won't give up my 4 FB tix for any BB coach. So I took the other approach and in my letter to Hart and Cheek, told them why I thought BP was the best for TNBB and would bump up my TF donation by $500 if they hired him. I know it is not a lot, but it was the most I could do.

Yes. He'd have to play by the rules for the first time in his career and he'd be way too easy of a target for negative recruiting (and the coaching community HATES him so they won't hesitate to do it, either).
