Petition to rehire Bruce Pearl

I'd love to have Marshall too, but Hambone really screwed things up with him. For some reason he didn't like Marshall (maybe because he's a winner lol) but he turned him down twice. The 1st time I understand because Hammy got CBP instead of him, but the second time he chose Martin over Marshall and that was a huge mistake. Marshall had made it to the tourney several times and CCM hadn't made it once.

(If you remember correctly Marshall almost upset CBP in the tourney that year we were a 2 seed and Lofton hit that last second shot to beat Winthrop.)

But maybe since we have a different ad he will at least consider it. I heard he makes 1.5 million and will get another bump at the end of the season. We can easily afford to give him 2 million or a little more. Plus he moves into a bigger conference.

Look how many good coaches have come into the SEC in the last few years and failed miserably (Mark Fox, Anthony Grant, etc.) Hiring a good coach is not a guarantee of success. Hiring Bruce Pearl back is as close to a guarantee of success as you are going to get.

Is there some risk involved? Sure. But, everything in sports is a risk. You can mitigate the risk with strong oversight.

Though there is risk involved, BUT the reward in this case is FAR, FAR worth the slight risk. To me, it is a no-brainer.

Indiana probably thought they could keep Kelvin Sampson out of trouble too.

I wonder how many of these "signatures" are repeats or fakes.

I'm pretty sure Cuonzo Martin didn't actually sign it.

I would imagine any coach weighs all options and IMO, WSU is a better job than UT. His run this season shows you that you can be a mid major and have success. He'll be making 1.75 during the tournament (a bump from the 1.6 he makes now), has a a rolling contract that extends thru 2020, more money for his assistance, bonus for conference titles, wins ect.... it's just more guaranteed money for longer periods of time than UT would likely offer. We'd have to go around 3 million I would imagine and I don't see that happening. At UT, he'd play in a better conference, have better facilities and probably more money from TV and stuff but he's a rock star there and it's not like their facilities suck.

Let me reiterate: "is there risk involve, sure, but the reward is worth the risk. The risk can be mitigated by careful scrutiny."

KEY is THERE IS RISK - but when you consider the negligible risk (Pearl has coached for 20+ years and has never had problems before bbq-gate) and the high reward, IMO it is worth the risk.

There was risk when KY hired Calipari, but the risk was worth the reward.

There were even more risk hiring Cal than Pearl and what did UK do? Make him the highest paid coach in the nation.

IMO, Fox was never that great of a coach. He benefited from a good staff at Nevada. When he took over, recruited his full class, he had two double digit loss seasons that resulted in trips to the CBI. He's always been average at best.

I use to be really high on Grant because he always seemed focused and recruited very well. I thought he'd destroy folks at Alabama but the more you watch him...the more you notice how bad of an x's and o's type of guy he is. Great recruiter and attitude but a horrible in game coach. He's extremely stubborn and doesn't change things up, even if they aren't working. That wasn't exposed at VCU but he's playing much better competition now. He's never made it past the 2nd round at either school.

I'm still sure State fans are wondering why in the world they hired Rick Ray. A southern Cal, unproven coach with no experience, limited playing experience who coached under a guy that pretty much sucks. They could of done much, MUCH better.

And there are some success stories with coaches given a 2nd chance too. Eddie Sutton took Oklahoma State to two final fours after leaving Kentucky in disgrace over the Dwayne Casey/Chris Mills scandal. Steve Fisher was fired from Michigan in '98 after violations were uncovered after recruits including future Michigan State star Mateen Cleaves were in a car accident more than 50 miles away from campus with current Michigan players while on an official visit. The investigation that followed revealed that Chris Webber had been paid $300K by a Michigan booster named Ed Martin (alas much more serious than lying over a cookout) and yet Fisher has landed on his feet at San Diego State and they are a perennial NCAA Tournament team. Neither Sutton or Fisher ran afoul of the NCAA again. Just something to think about.

Couldn't tell if you were describing Grant or Martin.

Bones never lie.

I had rather have Bruce Pearl back than us going to the sweet 16 this year !!!!! Call me crazy if you like, I will assure you I have been called much worse.

Uh how do you figure?

Perception is one thing, reality is another. In realty cal hasn't been caught, and punished for anything compared to Pearl.

Cal hasnt been punished directly and it may just be a coincidence that two teams of his have been punished but Memphis and UMASS was punished worse than UT was.

Besides you who else has been pissed off besides you?

First of all, I'm not mad about anything.

I'd say, the administration, the NCAA, the SEC/Mike Slive, the coaching fraternity and some others aren't too happy with Bruce.
