'15 NM QB Zach Gentry

Really can't understand fans judging Peterman based on one half of football in one of the worst and loudest stadiums for an opposing team. Worley wasnt much better. He had several turnovers and atleast 2 int's dropped and possibly a few others. His receivers also dropped several early passes which would rattle most young QB's and make them try to be more perfect than they need to be. I would put Dobbs game against Vandy right there with Nate's first half, but difference is Dobbs had a few starts under his belt and it was at home. Peyton was 0-2 there, Tee 0-1 and neither of them were making their first collegiate starts there. Just saying its tough for an experienced SR QB to go there and play well muchless a RS FR making his first start.

just to tack on. i feel like the same people that are saying peterman should never play again probably thought the same thing about ainge when he had his sophomore slump and then junior and senior year he played really well. we had a lack of experience at the qb position last year. it is what it is. hopefully the right guy wins out in practice and when he is under the lights is when he is at his best.

You know what, screw it. I'm saying it anyways.

Gentry is a silent. Will announce at O&W game.

With the kid being from New Mexico and having never visited UT, I really doubt he would be a silent at this point. Could he commit following his visit for the O&W game? Sure he could.

I'm okay with taking Gentry...But I think we hold off on allowing him to commit until we have lost ground on some other QBs

Lost ground? What other top level QB do you think we sit very well with?

Gibson, Stidham, Lock, Nunez all look to be leaning/headed elsewhere. I think Gentry is going to be top of the market for Tennessee this cycle.

I think we still have 2 or 3 months of serious grinding before we give Gentry and green light, possibly longer...but not by much.

I agree that those I would list above Gentry seem to all be leaning away from us, but I think we give a couple more pushes before we green light Gentry.

Would be a huge risk IMO. When one of your top choices is ready to pull the trigger, telling him to wait could prove to be a disaster. Not saying Gentry is in any way ready to commit to Tennessee, but if he tried, I can't imagine the coaches would tell him to wait. Of course I doubt it would even be a possibility till after he visits in April.

Dont hate me...because this sounds shady. (and I am not saying that CBJ and staff would do this). But, it is all in how you present it.

I would not call it shady at all. Telling a recruit to wait is very common. Telling the highest rated kid at the position still very interested on our board to wait is more insane than shady. :)

Especially when he has offers from okie st, tcu, and other great programs much closer to home.

Not when you say "Listen, son, We want you...we need you. But more importantly, here at UT, we recognize the power of momentum. We need to save your commitment until we are very close to landing another big time guy we are after. You know, to help convince him to come."

Using that...or similar wording wouldn't quite be a lie, but certainly shady.

You do know having your QB in your class early helps recruit other kids right? IMO the sooner the Vols have their QB onboard for 2015, the better.

Yes, yes I do know that. I also know, the better the QB you sign, the better off you are. Let's not forget, I said I don't think the coaches would do that. Also, I would like to add, I feel this would only be beneficial if we felt like we could swing would of the QBs I would list above Gentry.

i just know what i saw last year. i dont subscribe to thinking we have the second coming of peyton on campus. i subscribe to recruiting the absolute best of the best qbs in the country that are ready to play from day one. there are huge question marks at qb.

while healthy worley did hist best. and i think we would have made a bowl game. but, i want to play and compete for championships. again this is my opinion, and i hope dobbs and fergie prove me wrong. i sure as **** think the rest of the talent is there. i just think that of they were that talented they would have started over worley.

we are an elite qb away from competin for secc's in 2015.

I get your point but I cant help but to believe that butch NOT even recruiting a QB for the 14 class is very telling about what he believes he has on campus now. His career at TN is riding on winning by year 3. There is no way u knowingly depend on a true freshman to lead the team in a must win year, so he must believe one of these guys there now can & will get the job done. Otherwise a QB would have been priority one for this year & it wasnt even on his radar.

It's not that he lost like Tee or Manning. It's that he played like he'd never heard of football before. Some guys just freeze up when it's time to do it live on this level. That's what it looked like to me. Of course like I stated, that's just in my opinion.

Sounds like Gentry is the top QB choice based on all the times they have gone to see him. If he is ready to committ I dont see them telling him to hold off. Gentry is a very good QB prospect and one you take an early commitment from and build your class around.

I wouldnt say he is our top. I think Gibson or Stidham is, but he is most definatly our most realistic

If Gentry wants to commit, then it would be crazy for the coaches to tell him to wait. Get him in the boat ASAP. A bird in the hand and all that.

I don't think we have much faith in landing the other guys. I'd say the staff would accept a commit from gentry up to Gibson anytime they wanted.

I don't think we're in a position to deny Gentry.
FWIW, I don't think we'll land a truly elite QB recruit until 2016 at the earliest. If Butch's teams all show improvement.

We would def take his commit IMO. He appears to be top 3 and jake has put lots of effort in this one. You take first one to commit from your top 3 at qb. Too risky to wait. Gentry looks like a guy that will climb rankings to me after camps.

I don't give a crap about the stars.IMO I believe Gentry is as good as any other QB we're looking at.I'm not a fan of a QB running unless it's to scramble or a play breaks down so the DT QB's that run alot and throw for 2000 or less have zero interest to me.I think if that's going to be your style then all the QB's on your roster have to be the same style, otherwise you have to change your offense if he gets hurt.I know it's not in vogue nowadays but for my money a QB makes his bones throwing and a RB makes his running. If the QB runs better than the RB why have the RB on the field?

Auburn would disagree with you. They only won the SEC and played for the national championship. No big deal
