So if it's such common knowledge that the local cops like to harass UT football players, why not avoid the situation altogether?

Naw, I'll just underage drink, show em a fake ID, and resist arrest then claim none of this is on me.

Hey coach, I'll just do 20 jumping jacks and we good ok? :eek:lol:

Jumping jacks are pretty painful punishment imo.

You have to remember a lot of these football players feel entitled and they do so because of some of the reactions/thinking in this thread as an example IMO.

The idea of "no big deal" is exactly how things like this get worse and go downhill fast. Butch sends a clear message now and maybe the next time the players are a little more responsible in their actions.

Serious question: Can a message be sent without suspension?

Regardless of how you frame it, there are degrees of severity in crimes. All of these charges will be dropped or reduced with deferred adjudication and the removal from records. Extraordinarily minor.

A lot of BS criminal defense attorney stuff going on in these posts.

Facts: KPD was called in to a noise complaint of too loud of music at a party at the apartment of Sapp and AJ. They asked for the music to be turned down and for the group to keep things under control. Instead, after KPD left, more people came to the party and they cranked the music up even louder. With more people came more booze, weed and noise. KPD called in again. It is after 1 AM at this point with a lot boozed up/high folks at the party that is now turning ugly and getting violent on the property. Sapp and AJ arrested - it's their apartment - where weed, underage drinking, fighting, etc. are going on. And yes, there were close to 100 people there. Don't act ignorant - they were not all inside the apartment - they were outside and inside including the parking lot. And yes, they are as guilty as it gets. My source is impeccable. Sorry if you don't like or believe it. Get over it because it is what happened. Now go make excuses for it. Those poor little boys just were having fun. Yada, yada, yada.

Fake ID's....funny memories.

I didn't drink on the Strip before I was 21.

But Shane McCormick, age 22 of Lawrenceville, GA gave it hell every weekend.

If it were me, they would be suspended for the 1st half of the Utah State game. Butch has had a very good start to his time at UT with this sort of stuff not happening. Send the message now that this stuff is serious and will not be tolerated. Running IMO is just not enough.

All 3 sit out the 1st half IMO. Unless there were drugs involved, then it's much more severe.

I meant it jokingly as they could sit out during garbage time, but yes, I agree that there does need to be some discipline. The team needs to realize that CBJ will not take this stuff and just brush it aside.

Wonder how the kids would take it if Butch calls a team meeting and asks who all was at the party. He then takes those names and informs those individuals they will now be drug tested. Wonder how that would turn out?

My first fake when I was a student at UT was so bad. It wasn't even a drivers license. It was an Iowa Resident ID that said I was 28 lol. But it did look just like me and worked at some places no problem.

Was thinking 15 would be more reasonable..

So now you are assuming they are acting entitled without knowing the complete situation. This is a ridiculous reaction. It's only fair to hear their perspective. Unfortunately we won't get that opportunity while CBJ will get it. We do not have enough info to demand a range of punishment. Stop assuming. It's sophomoric.

It may be a ridiculous reaction. I'm not the one in cuffs though.

They don't work at all on the Strip anymore. The Hill, maybe, but even at the Pilot down near the overpass the lady hassled me about my fake once.

You're the one in the library complaining about noise from some guys headphones. We get it. I jest. Sort of.

With all of that said, the football punishment handed down is Butch's choice and I will support even if it's a suspension.

Honestly don't care what punishment butch decides on but I am interested to see what is as this will be an indication of how he will handle these issues.

I believe he over does it to make a point. Especially internally.

Best friend had a Michigan "resident" id.

Damn thing said he was 36, and a good 100lbs lighter. Worked for a grand total of 2 nights. Guy at Pilot took it.

I used mine until 9/11. Soon after that KPD started threatening to use terrorism laws to hammer people with fakes. I was dumb enough to believe them.

Your friend should have been cuffed and stoned in the public square in a scarlet letter type robe.

Has it been a while since you were in college? The only person the records show was ID'd and underage was O'Brien. They gave their teammate a beer. He's what, 20? It's not like they were running a bar. Fake id's are common, though O'Brien should be punished for being so stupid as to show a fake to a cop. And resisting arrest can literally be attributed to anything. Cops are dicks to most college students, but they are especially so to our football players.

I had a friend in immediate fear for her life call 911 three blocks from a police station in the fort. An hour later they showed. We had a shooting in the fort, and there are mugging a daily.

Yet we are using our police resources by sending dozens of cop cars to harass some students drinking off a keg, listening to music, and generally, minding their own business.
I'm in college now. I've had my run ins. I've never been arrested. If a cop ever came up to me you have to know:
1. Be respectful
and
2. Know your rights

I've actually been asked twice by cops if they could search me or my car. Both times I had nothing to hide but if you know your rights you won't be sitting for hours while your car is being searched in every crevice. I declined and that was that.

Some cops are a-holes and I've dealt with a few. I got a ticket for driving without a liscence outside of my neighborhood going back to get my wallet.

Generally most cops don't waste time on petty things unless that's what they are told to do (like radar gun duty).
