Preemptive Grammys Gay Marriage Thread

While there isn't a proven "gay gene," there are numerous, accredited scientific studies that have shown various cerebral, anatomical, and neurological correlations that imply that homosexuality isn't a choice.

Don't lecture anyone on science when you've only been willing to study it from your desired perspective. It makes you come across as bigoted, obstinate, and (worst of all) close minded.

So there isn't a gay gene but there are studies that imply homosexuality isn't a choice? Wow.

Just wow.

Why does my statement shock you? Do you think you were born gay? That there is a gay gene? If so why? I am curious because I have asked my 2 gay cousins this question and they both said nobody is born gay. It was a choice for them.

I suppose you have a black friend as well.

Seriously, all this post says is you're brave enough to post your beliefs on a mb, anonymously, but you aren't brave enough to express them at a Christmas party to those who hold opinions you oppose. Why not? Why not give these people the chance, face to face, to debate you on the merits of your arguement. If you believe as strongly as you claim, have this debate with those you know that hold a different opinion. Or are you afraid they'll see you for who you are? You attend their party, accept their hospitality, then run home to bash their lifestyle behind a screen name on the internet. That's just cowardly.

Actually I have a black first cousin. For starters

So I guess you think Christians are always supposed to act perfect huh? Anytime a Christian uses any kind of derogatory, this is the response. Its old. Christians are not perfect. We get mad. Sometimes we curse. Sometimes we totally overreact and act improperly. We are human and make mistakes.
Then shut your face about judging other people you sinful slut. I'll pray for you because due to your sins, you really need to repent.

You are full of **** and literally too ignorant to insult. Read a book and educate yourself, because you should at least be educated on a subject before you judge and throw stones at someone for it.

What I find shocking is someone who is not gay making a definitive statement as to whether it is innate.

With respect to you and your cousins, I have my own experience and that of countless other gay people with whom I've discussed this topic; I've heard many very personal and often painful stories. If it were a choice for everyone why do so many (myself included) fight it for long periods of time, pray for it to go away? Why is the suicide attempt rate of GLBT teens five times that of their peers? It is not some easy choice. If sexuality is something that can be chosen at whim, then when did all the straight people decide they were going to like the opposite sex?

I agree that research has not found a gay gene, nor does one exist; it's not that simple. However, the most recent research and thinking on the subject points to homosexuality being a combination of genetic markers (not a specific gene) and environmental exposure in the womb (hormones).

Do some choose? I'm sure that happens, but I've never met anyone who has stated they did as your cousins have to you. That certainly was not the case for me.

I think that sexuality is something kids will struggle with to accept, especially during the teen years. Kids are mean and cruel to outsiders, one slip up at school and you can become a social pariah. While becoming more acceptable everyday I think that kids accepting a classmate in their teen years as gay will be tough for the foreseeable future, considering the hormonal changes going on and overall immaturity at that age. The teen years are probably not the best time for one to come out.

On a side note I think what irks a lot of people are the flamboyant types, which in my opinion, are no different than your popped collar too much gel in their spiked hair too much cologne wearing douchebag's trolling for female tail. The kind of people who want to be in your face about something; attention whoring. I think people more often then not dislike the lifestyle but not the person and in that people confuse a dislike with ignorance or hatred. I don't like beef liver but it doesn't mean I won't ever eat steak. I hate the gators and Ohio State but my last few girlfriends all graduated from said schools. I don't get the anti marriage crowd. They aren't getting gay married..so who gives a flip? Wanna know whats worse than gay's marrying? Marriage by Proxy. Common Law Marriage...WTF! Common Law marriage..biggest crock of ****..1000 times worse than two flannel wearing lesbiana's getting hitched and playing polyurethane tummy sticks.

Is that too much to comprehend or something? They haven't confirmed a left-handed gene but they've compiled evidence that suggests it's not a choice. Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp. Who are you to give the definite answer on the who is born gay or who chooses to be gay? Did you choose heterosexuality? Did you choose to be right handed? Did you choose to enjoy drumsticks more than thighs? Or did all these things seem to come natural to you?

I'm not saying there's a drumstick gene. I am open to the concept that I am mentally predisposed to enjoy chicken legs more than thighs. Open your mind, dude. Unless you're a genetic scientist, you don't know anymore about this subject than anyone else in here.

Well, considering the subject matter, except someone who is gay. They might have a better idea on whether or not it's a choice.

I developed a taste for thighs over drumsticks as I got older, just as I hated green peppers when I was young but find them delicious now.

No need. I repent and ask for forgiveness daily. I sin everyday. Also I would rather you repent and pray for yourself. It seems you really need it because people having opinions different than yours really bothers you.

So are you educated on the subject? Elaborate. I have said there is no gay gene and people are not born gay. How is that throwing stones? Maybe you need to post in another thread because it seems religion and science are not your strong suits.

Wait, how much research have you done on the subject. What about the correlations I mentioned earlier? Are they invalid?

I'm not patronizing you. I'm really curious.

Dude, the genetic code is to complex that there may have to be 5 or 10 genes that line up just right to produce feminine males and masculine females. A "gene" is not the be all end all. While I believe in the above, I also believe that much of homosexuality is preference. While for some it isn't a choice, I believe for many it is.

Here is the conundrum, who is to argue with choice? And on the flip side, is someone's CHOICE in sexual preference supposed to give them some kind of rights?

Black dudes have a badunkadunk gene. fact.

That is choice because the meat basically is the same in a thigh and a drumstick. You just like the dark meat.....welcome to the daaaaaaark side!

It can't be that complex. We are this ------- close to being monkeys.
