Vols Going with Nike

I heard on 104.5 that this move was something that CBJ pushed for. They said that he hated Adidas.

I love the move!

Considering Butch was as Central Michigan with Adidas and was part of Cincinnati signing an extension with them a year ago, I'm going to say he does not "hate" Adidas.

He certainly was not opposed to a change, but he wasn't the driving factor.

Switching to Nike could help our special teams out. A few years back James Wilhoit wrote an article complaining what pieces of crap the Wilson balls are and claimed a 5 to 7 yard difference in kicking distance. We can use that if it's still the case.

James Wilhoit Kicking Coach: Specialists Path Kicking Footballs

As I've posted several times in this thread, UT tried several different brands of footballs on their own and there wasn't a measurable difference.

I actually think the move benefits the Basketball program more than the FB program. I am not really biased one way or the other. I think apparel wise they are both about the same. I think shoe wise Nike is better.

I heard Ainge go on at length on the radio once about how throwing Wilson footballs is noticeably tougher than throwing Nike footballs, especially through the wind, because they're shaped differently. Not true?

UT had the option to use any football it wanted, including Nike. Under Fulmer and Kiffin and Dooley, they tried out different models of balls from Wilson, Nike and Adidas nearly every spring. They elected to stay with various models of Wilsons every time.

This is huge!!! We have lost quality recruits before because Adidas was our sponsor. Besides, nike offers a completely new level of PR for UT that Adidas could not come close too. Great strategical move by butch. Even if his coaching flops this will be something to remember.

Name them

Kinda sorta off-topic,but does this mean that the Lady Vols would finally incorporate the "Power T" in Lady Vols logo w/ Nike encouraging them?
