Creative control is the only thing that matters to me.
On a side note, my belief in DP has been shaken to the very core...
Every Nike school gives up certain elements of control and agrees to participate in certain uniform programs and unveilings. They discontinued the "Pro Combat" program a couple of years ago, but sometimes 3-4 schools will debut a new stock uniform cut with a special uniform. We'll do that if asked.
Nike just unveiled a bunch of college basketball throwbacks that will be worn my schools in February. We would be obligated to do something like that as well.
As far as the standard, usual football uniform, we will maintain design control of that. Don't expect changes there.
But for alternates, there won't be a long-term back and forth on the design like we had with Adidas. They'll hand us an alternate and tell us when we're wearing it.
Men's and women's basketball will get reasonably cool custom uniforms every year, we'll work with designers on those.
As for other sports, our teams will wear whatever standard template Nike rolls out each year, like most of their schools.
Very disappointed in this. We were partners with Adidas, but Nike will treat us like all their other "second tier" schools. We'll never have any say in our jersey selection anymore. And their alternate uniforms generally look like crap. But I know, "it's what the kids like." Swell.
Can you fill us in on the other details of the contract? You seem to be in the know.

Michigan is an Adidas school. No one on this website is "in the know," but the closest person we have who is has said in the past that Nike doesn't view Tennessee as a top tier school like Michigan, Alabama, Texas, and the like, and schools that aren't big time in Nike's eyes get less say than the big boys. Now, I might be misinterpreting that a bit, but I'm pretty sure I read it right. Maybe that's not the case. Maybe I misunderstood. But this is the Internet, and "maybe" is what drives the Internet. Well, maybe, and pictures of people, but for now we'll stick to speculatin'.

Michigan is an Adidas school.
What is the basis for the belief that we would be considered a "second tier" school by Nike? Even during our down years our merchandise sold ranking was usually top 15 in the nation.
I keep hearing this "second tier" talk and I don't know what is based upon.
It was a statement in Nikes own words in previous contract negotiations. Their offer this time was better. Not Alabama or North Carolina-level, but better.
