I'm trying to hold onto some optimism. We need to show up and play a solid match to beat Ghana, get physical with Ronaldo and get him frustrated and whiny, and hope that Germany has already clinched a spot when we play them so we get the B squad.

It's not impossible, but it's going to be really hard.

People won't like you bringing the topic back to the World Cup. We should probably talk about beer and moonshine instead.

Good for him.

When he took the job here he thought he was going to be our next coach. Fulmer did as well

I can't help but believe Fulmer undermined him with the players. I have no proof, but what explains his success everywhere else, and having a disastrous year at UT? The program was on a slippery slope when he came in and completely collapsed while he was here. Probably not all his fault.

Nice guy. My son attended Fulmers last camp as coach. Clawson was very good with the kids and accommodating with the parents. He had bad timing here.

Dude it doesn't matter. Klose isn't their best striker and even if Podolski isn't back it doesn't matter . Germany is so deep they could play their second team and still beat us. None of our players would start for Germany. "Experimenting" with a certain formation means nothing either. German soccer is far and away on a different level than us. Portugal isn't elite? They got to the semis in the Euros and lost to the eventual champion Spain. Take away Ronaldo they are still more talented than probably 9 of the 11 positions, may 10. I like you optimism though

Ozil can play forward, and Mario Gomez is better than any of our strikers. Mueller is a beast, he and Gotze could play forward. They would be fine without the two veterans

It wasn't Clawson, Fulmer got complacent, 05 and 08 were very talented teams that were totally uninspired. Fulmer=Mack Brown=Fulmer =Mack Brown.

The game passed them by

All you have to do is look at the offensive schemes Clawson's run everywhere else compared to UT. He must have had very little say in the design of the offense, and he didn't have any position coaches of his choosing.

If Gomez is in good form, they should play him as a lone striker and let their stacked midfield dominate the ball. Ozil is a beast, too bad Khedira blew out his knee.

Coming from someone who played soccer in HS and some in college, that's awesome.

Josh Malone is on twitter now @JoshMaloneVFL
That is the same name used by the fake Josh if I recall.

Ask him what was his Dad's high school basketball coach's name. Post it here and I'll get back to you to tell you if it is him or not.

This.

Just like Butch is having to recruit a roster to fit his schemes, Clawson needed to be able to do the same. Didn't happen and Clawson was not here long enough to make the changes. At that time his scheme was new and different. It is now accepted as one of the better college schemes. But he had a bunch of slow leaners for an O-line, no QB and not enough quickness at the skill positions. That is on Fulmer, both for the recruiting as well as hiring an OC and not giving him the right tools to work with. He should have stuck with pro style.
