It's easy. The top team in each of the 4 minor league conferences should have a 4 team playoff for the right to play the winner of the SEC championship game for the national championship. :)

Portugal and Germany are elite teams, and Ghana is just about even with us talent wise. Germany being weak at striker is kinda laughable. You are in a tiny minority that believe we have a chance.

Klose is old and Podolski is hurt. They have been experimenting with a false 9. You don't do that unless you are weak at striker.

And Portugal is not "elite."

Pete Thamel ?@SIPeteThamel 5m Just bumped into Mack Brown in NYC: "You had me fired after the KState game," he said. Then he added, "I have no comment."

Brown has a full week scheduled in NYC and then recruiting visits and bowl presser. From UT end, all appears normal. Could that change?

I agree, Portugal is a shadow of its previous World Cup team. Don't get me wrong, they are still good, but they aren't as big of a problem as you are trying to make them out to be. This is going to be the fittest and deepest team the U.S. has ever sent to a World Cup.

Dude it doesn't matter. Klose isn't their best striker and even if Podolski isn't back it doesn't matter . Germany is so deep they could play their second team and still beat us. None of our players would start for Germany. "Experimenting" with a certain formation means nothing either. German soccer is far and away on a different level than us. Portugal isn't elite? They got to the semis in the Euros and lost to the eventual champion Spain. Take away Ronaldo they are still more talented than probably 9 of the 11 positions, may 10. I like you optimism though

Serious lack of respect for the Ghana Black Stars in this thread IMO. Arguably the best African team and easily stronger than the US squad. I'll consider the World Cup a success if we finish ahead of them in the group.

Being fit is irrelevant. This is probably the deepest team we've had, but at the end of the day the gap in talent between those teams and us is crazy. I'm hoping against hope though.

Did I say we would beat Germany or that they weren't on a different level? Absolutely not. We obviously disagree on Portugal, so we will have to see how that plays out.

Just protecting his dads spot at the top of Bama folklore

Ha ha humor Bruin. Nice. It wasn't adding up for me. However reading comprehension was always my weakness (mind wonders), but not math.

I meant wanders! See what I mean.

You were bringing up details about the German team that seemed like you were saying we were closer to us than they are, but fair enough. We will be rooting for the same team come summer.
