This is so wrong, what I'm about to say but....
Foley and Muschamp need to consider the heat in the Swamp, if they're looking to hire Mangino...I would think he'd have to call the games from the [very well air conditioned] box. :whistling:
I've said it before, but it bears repeating...
The rapid development of high school players in Tennessee creates a whole new ballgame for the Tennessee program. Traditionally, we have had to get most of our top players in neighboring states, and across the country. That wasn't too bad when we were sitting on top, and the SEC only had 2-3 strong teams. In this current college football climate, it would be impossible for us to rise to the top again "cherry picking". With 5* talent being developed within the state annually, we can begin to build on the foundation of Tennessee kids, and that has long term sustaining power.
The future is bright.
Saw an article that said saban to Texas is a done deal not sure how true
It's wild. He went out for WR on the freshman team. Coach asked if anyone wanted to try to kick. He was the only one. He's a natural. Has hit from 45+ in practice as a Freshman. Wilhoit changed (established) his mechanics. Has worked his butt off this year. Wilhoit asked him what his main goal was. He said I want to be the one to beat Alabama. Tears rolled up my eyes.
I hope Josh Smith gets everything fixed. He can get open. If he gets his head and everything else right, he'll be OK. They'll need him. There's a reason Jones wants a bunch of WRs.
Two instant replay/changed calls away from a very different season..

Yep - I know a lot of people have questioned Butch's ability to coach after this season. I think the opposite now. Our team was simply not that talented, and he got a lot out of them. A bad coach could have done much, much worse with this talent and our schedule.
Only the Austin Peay game and maybe the South Alabama game were true gimmes. And South Alabama almost stole one from us.
I have always and will always contend that, if Heath Shuler comes back for his Senior year, we're contending for a national title in '94.
The only teams we lost to with comparable, or more, talent that year were Florida (who annihilated us at home) and (arguably) Alabama. However, with Shuler under center, we beat UCLA, Bama (who we only lost to by a field goal, I think), and there's no way we lose to Mississippi State, which I witnessed, personally.
The Florida game...
Spurrier, Wuerffel, Lawrence Wright, Kevin Carter...their D was probably one of the best they've ever had and would've been tough to overcome but Shuler, IIRC, tore them up the year before in the Swamp, albeit in a loss.
They would've been our biggest hurdle, IMO, and likely would've been MUCH closer, however, Spurrier was, and still is, a superior coach to Fulmer so, it may have still wound up a loss...but I'd really like to have seen that game!
FWIW, Peyton will always be the favorite son of the University of Tennessee but, politics aside, I REALLY wish Shuler would come back more often.
I hope we don't see too much of Jsmith next year - but that is just me
if pearson and malone are even close to what they are billed to be - when you add that to North and Pig i am just not sure how many reps i would want him getting
I remember a lot of people saying the same thing about Zach Rogers and look how that turned out.

I think he'll be fine, too. If he gets healthy and shakes the yips, he could be a valuable possesion guy and quality depth.
(Not directed at you Writer) I laugh every time Tennessee fans decide a kid is toast and should probably just transfer out.
We've seen PLENTY of guys who looked like absolute dog crap for a season or two only to grow into solid players.
Palardy? Z. Rogers? Work back from there. There are a lot of good examples.
