Trust me...I am not/wasn't happy about it. I drank myself into oblivion that night. I hate James Franklin so much.

I hate kiffin because he did not care for UT and screwed the Tennessee football team and yet I was ecstatic when he left. Dooley confused and disappointed me. First impression was potential great Southern coach, final impression was spoiled rich kid with a loser mentality...

vanderbilt is to be despised a la Coach Cafego and Coach Neyland era. I truly hate all things vandy...I feel about frnklin the way the rest of the SEC felt about kiffin...I hope frnklin hires kiffin as his OC. Would be a dream come true :)

With ya Mike.

If you want to be the coach at the University of Tennessee long term, which is what I hope CBJ wants, you dont lose to vu or ky.

Both Coaches Fulmer and Majors lost to vanderbilt. Coach Majors lost to kentucky.

Stuff happens even to the great ones.
I do not think either will happen again during Coach Jones tenure, jmo

I know Rutherford county is exploding in population again. Nissan has almost doubled in size over the past few years. Amazon built a big factory here.

Yeah, its in Murfreesboro. That thing is unbelievably massive. I saw somewhere where Rutherford County was the #1 county in the US for job growth. The midstate is exploding as people move in and will be a goldmine for UT as far as recruiting. It will be even easier when Vanderbilt inevitably regresses.

orangeblood79's post was too long to quote - but the main reason the preseason predictions were off have nothing to do with TN - couch hurt, freshman QB's were worse than many had hoped but in reality no one in the country had MO and AU in the SEC title game

if we had any inkling of how good MO and AU were going to be then noone would have predicted 7-8 wins - 6 wins would have been the most one could have reasonably hoped

that doenst make the preseason prediction of 7 wins unreasonable though - MO had a very mediocre year last year and AU didnt win 1 SEC game so predicting those as tossups was a reasonable thing to do - just didnt quite turn out that way

At the beginning of the season if you knew oregon, uf, bama, usc, uga, auburn and mizzou were top 12 or better when we were gonna play them, would anyone predict a win out of ANY of those games? Especially if you knew of the changes to the Tennessee roster that happened? Winning one and being one overtime play away from winning another from that group sounds pretty good! Having a chance against a 3rd team, but falling short due to poor early QB play/injury ain't bad either...

For you football gurus, has any other team played a more brutal schedule EVER? I cannot think of one.

Coach Fulmer was fired/let go when he lost his 2nd to em. Trying to remember but I think Majors lost to em twice also back in the 80's. He was given a bye, imo, for being a favored son. Having a NC in his pocket didn't hurt either. Coach Jones doesn't have that luxury.

Seems to be a pecedent. Dont loose to vandy nor ky.

People should have listened to CBJ when he said team 117 had a thin margin of error in spring camp and then later implied that he had more depth at Cincy than at UT. Those preseason quotes made me limit my expectations. I also watched a lot of old Tennessee games and went back and rewatched the Spring game. The dearth of talent and depth on team 117 was glaring, relative to what we have had in the past. Despite the presence of a few NFL worthy players, team 117 may be one of the least talented teams we've fielded in a long time, when you consider the roster as a whole.

5-7 may actually have been close to our ceiling for wins. The USCe win is really impressive in retrospect.

The biggest disappointment this year remains not buying out Oregon. As soon as we lost to Kentucky in Lexington, Hart should have looked at the future schedule and figured out the best path to get us bowl eligible going forward.

If we buy that out and replace it with a more manageable game, we face a day of negative PR and a whole off season (in 2013) of positive PR as we come off a likely bowl win.

No buyout of Oregon. Move it back like they did with nebraska series.

I want UT to petition the SEC to move uf to November and ky or vandy to September...not gonna happen, but a man can dream :)

What year was this so-called 2nd loss to Vanderbilt by Fulmer?

Hear, hear! This is the truth. Wish we could buy out Oklahoma next year too, for similar reasons.

Nope...stoops needs to be whooped by a "down" UT team just because he needs an SEC attitude adjustment! It will also serve notice that Butch is the real deal. Also, and most importantly...i already have great seats to the game. When I go to an away game for UT, and I have been to many, I have seen mostly wins, only one tie, and only 2 losses. I expect to beat oklahoma. It is what Volunteers do! Time to toss out the loser mentality :)

Agreed! Not like anyone in here is saying anything completely terrible or shocking. bunch of nancies in here. ive been in several verbal altercations on this board and i hate a bunch of posters on here as much as u can hate an avatar that spews garbage in the form of written word but i dont ignore posters.

How old are you Ertel? I am 51, not enough time to sift through the never ending crap spewed by some posters...I put them on ignore for a while then take them off...cannot stand whiney, *****y people in real life...wish there was an IGNORE feature in reality :)

Would be really fun at work to just see a little notice instead of the whiner :)

You do what you think is right...i will too. Why complain about my choices if they do not affect you? Why don't you go paint a rock :)
Lol joke no harm no foul

Quick note on Josh Smith...

His dad just tweeted that Josh just came out of surgery to have torn meniscus repaired in his knee. Remember Smith missed some practice time in the pre-season with what was called a sore knee. He managed the problem all season long and got it fixed this morning.

Since we nearly beat UGA and Vandy, seems like 7 would be our ceiling.

What was the severity of Marquez North's injury? I haven't heard anything about it since the injury. Can anyone update?

Saw an article that said saban to Texas is a done deal not sure how true

I was listening to the game network in Nashville this morning and they had Chris Fowler on. He said we loved Nashville and wants Game Day to return, but that depends on Vandy. He said they have to win and play good teams. The talking heads then said Vandy is winning and Fowler followed it up by saying we don’t do charity work. I thought it was funny.

Two games prevented the opportunity for another national title- Arkansas in 99 and LSU in 2001. I have no doubt that we could have beaten Miami in the Rose Bowl in 2001.

I have always and will always contend that, if Heath Shuler comes back for his Senior year, we're contending for a national title in '94.

The only teams we lost to with comparable, or more, talent that year were Florida (who annihilated us at home) and (arguably) Alabama. However, with Shuler under center, we beat UCLA, Bama (who we only lost to by a field goal, I think), and there's no way we lose to Mississippi State, which I witnessed, personally.

The Florida game...

Spurrier, Wuerffel, Lawrence Wright, Kevin Carter...their D was probably one of the best they've ever had and would've been tough to overcome but Shuler, IIRC, tore them up the year before in the Swamp, albeit in a loss.

They would've been our biggest hurdle, IMO, and likely would've been MUCH closer, however, Spurrier was, and still is, a superior coach to Fulmer so, it may have still wound up a loss...but I'd really like to have seen that game!

FWIW, Peyton will always be the favorite son of the University of Tennessee but, politics aside, I REALLY wish Shuler would come back more often.

Latest buzz is Mark Mangino to Florida as the new OC. I don't like this.

If so, Florida would be gaining a great offensive mind. He has worked with various NFL teams as an offensive guru since being fired by Kansas.

This is so wrong, what I'm about to say but....

Foley and Muschamp need to consider the heat in the Swamp, if they're looking to hire Mangino...I would think he'd have to call the games from the [very well air conditioned] box. :whistling:
