This is so wrong, what I'm about to say but....

Foley and Muschamp need to consider the heat in the Swamp, if they're looking to hire Mangino...I would think he'd have to call the games from the [very well air conditioned] box. :whistling:

Not wrong at all. Maybe they can get him bags of ice to lie on like UGA.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating...

The rapid development of high school players in Tennessee creates a whole new ballgame for the Tennessee program. Traditionally, we have had to get most of our top players in neighboring states, and across the country. That wasn't too bad when we were sitting on top, and the SEC only had 2-3 strong teams. In this current college football climate, it would be impossible for us to rise to the top again "cherry picking". With 5* talent being developed within the state annually, we can begin to build on the foundation of Tennessee kids, and that has long term sustaining power.

The future is bright.

I absolutely agree. Speaking as a life-long Nashvillian, there's going to be a time, perhaps soon, where the Metro-Nashville area is competing with the likes of the area surrounding ATL. Nashville is a boom-town and is on pace to be as large as the current size of Denver, within the decade, if not sooner.

Couple that with the growth surrounding Franklin & Murfreesboro (which is one of the largest growing towns in the nation) and a burgeoning downtown, especially East Nashville--there's an influx of industry in Middle Tennessee, which means more people, more schools (private & public), and more potential for elite athletes.

Not to mention the fact that there's about a thousand facilities around that specialize in athletic training: D1, Velocity Training (in Memphis), Crossfit, et al.

All of these factors point to a recruiting outlook for UT that shifts the focus more and more on in-state prospects...and with CBJ & Co. solidifying the majority of elite prospects this year and beyond. I get a little giddy thinking about it...

You're absolutely right...the future IS bright.

Saw an article that said saban to Texas is a done deal not sure how true

Article By: The Brainiacs. I don't know much about these folks but hard to think a rival website from Oklahoma broke the news first.

One of those deals for me that I would have to see him on TV being introduced as the Head Coach for TX to believe it. I would think Saban has enough money to last 4 generations deep. I know it’s a lot of pressure he has created by being so successful at Alabama but Texas is going to expect the same thing as well. I can see him going to the NFL to conquer that challenge but not to another CFB team. Just my opinion.

It's wild. He went out for WR on the freshman team. Coach asked if anyone wanted to try to kick. He was the only one. He's a natural. Has hit from 45+ in practice as a Freshman. Wilhoit changed (established) his mechanics. Has worked his butt off this year. Wilhoit asked him what his main goal was. He said I want to be the one to beat Alabama. Tears rolled up my eyes.

Wish I could like this again. That's awesome. Whether he makes it to UT or not, you know you've raised a VFL either way. Heck, if that's his goal as a freshman (love that attitude), he keeps working his butt off with one of the better recent kickers at UT, and has that kind of leg as a freshman who just started kicking, I wouldn't bet against him. I think all of VN would agree with me when I say that I hope he reaches his goal :)

I hope Josh Smith gets everything fixed. He can get open. If he gets his head and everything else right, he'll be OK. They'll need him. There's a reason Jones wants a bunch of WRs.

I hope we don't see too much of Jsmith next year - but that is just me

if pearson and malone are even close to what they are billed to be - when you add that to North and Pig i am just not sure how many reps i would want him getting

Two instant replay/changed calls away from a very different season..

Yep - I know a lot of people have questioned Butch's ability to coach after this season. I think the opposite now. Our team was simply not that talented, and he got a lot out of them. A bad coach could have done much, much worse with this talent and our schedule.

Only the Austin Peay game and maybe the South Alabama game were true gimmes. And South Alabama almost stole one from us.

I think he'll be fine, too. If he gets healthy and shakes the yips, he could be a valuable possesion guy and quality depth.

(Not directed at you Writer) I laugh every time Tennessee fans decide a kid is toast and should probably just transfer out.

We've seen PLENTY of guys who looked like absolute dog crap for a season or two only to grow into solid players.

Palardy? Z. Rogers? Work back from there. There are a lot of good examples.

I have always and will always contend that, if Heath Shuler comes back for his Senior year, we're contending for a national title in '94.

The only teams we lost to with comparable, or more, talent that year were Florida (who annihilated us at home) and (arguably) Alabama. However, with Shuler under center, we beat UCLA, Bama (who we only lost to by a field goal, I think), and there's no way we lose to Mississippi State, which I witnessed, personally.

The Florida game...

Spurrier, Wuerffel, Lawrence Wright, Kevin Carter...their D was probably one of the best they've ever had and would've been tough to overcome but Shuler, IIRC, tore them up the year before in the Swamp, albeit in a loss.

They would've been our biggest hurdle, IMO, and likely would've been MUCH closer, however, Spurrier was, and still is, a superior coach to Fulmer so, it may have still wound up a loss...but I'd really like to have seen that game!

FWIW, Peyton will always be the favorite son of the University of Tennessee but, politics aside, I REALLY wish Shuler would come back more often.

I definitely agree with respect to the probable outcome of the '94 Alabama game, had Shuler returned as a senior. As things turned out, Peyton almost directed us to a come-from-behind victory. However, in a game between evenly matched teams, there is an enormous advantage in Alabama having had an experienced, senior signal caller (Jay Barker) versus our having an extremely talented but true freshman who was just beginning to get his feet wet at the position.

A similar argument was advanced by Bobby Scott, who lamented, in retrospect, not having taken a redshirt. We had an extraordinary defense in 1971 but struggled all year at quarterback, finally settling with fifth-year senior Jim Maxwell. Scott suggested that, if he had possessed the foresight to accept a redshirt, the '71 team, with him at quarterback, could have made a serious run at the national title.

I remember a lot of people saying the same thing about Zach Rogers and look how that turned out.

ZR didnt play well as a sophomore - i didnt say kick him off the team i just said i don't see him getting a lot of reps - he didnt look quite ready last year and shouldnt have been honestly, he should have had a year or 2 before he made it to the field

if he is playing a lot next year then we had some injuries or pearson or malone were not what they were supposed to be

I think he needs a RS year - then in 2015 he would be a RS soph, 2016 RS jr, 2017 RS sr - much more likely to be an effective player in those years imo

Just found out I'll be repping the Big Orange in the Dome on Saturday!

Awesome.

That's a game you never, EVER turn down tickets to regardless of who is playing in it. Its still one of the best atmospheres you can find.

I'm interested to see what Mizzou brings to the party.

Jason Sehorn just said on cfb daily that mizz was the only team all year to shut down manziel lol. lsu gave mizz the blueprint on how to do it just one week before smh.

As far as the J Winston stuff, why did it take so long for a decision to be made if the accuser looks like she was obviously lying about what she told police? If she told the police she had 5-6 shots and then was raped afterwards by Winston while the toxicology report showed very little alcohol and no date rape type of drugs along with the bartender who said she only had one shot, why has taken so long to come to a decision on whether to charge him or not when her story doesn't add up?

It's pretty clear the two had sex. Question is, whether it was consensual or rape. Now that it seems the girl was lying, I have no doubt he won't be charged. I'm just wondering what the heck took so long. Just seems like they could've came to this decision a lot sooner. Kinda makes me wonder.

A couple of your post over the last day or so have caught my attention.

Though 5-7 is nothing to write home about given the talent issues, speed on D and the QB issues, there were some pretty nice milestones reached which strike me as something to build on (note implied "brick" reference).

In particular these are a win over a top 10 team, taking GA down to the wire, and getting an in conference road win. One might say the win over Kentucky is to be expected but the team is starting over after reaching historic lows under Dooley. Glad to have these milestones under our belt with Jones.

Soon as I posted that, espn had a guy on cfb daily that confirmed Winston won't be charged with anything

I'm shocked smh. Not saying he did it but I wouldn't bet the farm he didn't. Lot of big money ppl and high ranking officials can make things go away if they want. No telling what all goes on behind the scene in a case like this with a Heisman trophy and NC on the line. Again, I'm not saying I think he did it but would I be surprised if there's more to the story......heck no.

Good post. In a perfect world Josh Smith RS's and everybody goes crazy over how he is a secret weapon the next season. He is fast, has good hops, and runs good routes. The games got too big for him and he lost focus on catching the ball. That's all it was and that can be fixed as it was with Z-Ro and many others through the years.

I just said something similar in another thread. Kid was always open, just didn't make the catch. I believe that can be fixed with more self confidence and maturity. I hope so anyway.
