I don't believe in it, but I don't take issue with it either... at least not as a religion. On the other hand, I do take issue with violence but have those same issues with violence relative to all religions.

Really? I take issue with those who kill in the name of their god. I take issue with people who try to impose their will and their beliefs upon others. What I believe is mine, what you believe is yours. Don't mess with mine and I won't mess with yours. That's called tolerance.

I like the season. People are much nicer and friendlier at that time of year. I like the music that goes with it, too.

Sly, you must not shop much at Christmas time. People are pure evil when they're trying to get this year's hot item for their kids. Friendliness goes out the window.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding something, but isn't that also what I said in my post? That I take issue with violence?

As far as taking issue with those who try to impose their beliefs on others, this doesn't bother me that much. If it really bothers you, then you must really hate watching television or browsing the internet. People (advertisers) are trying to impose their beliefs on you all the time.

I have Christian values, sort of, maybe. sometimes, but through history, yes, wars have been fought over religion, but now, the libs want to stick homosexuality in our faces, with gay parades, while demanding that Mangers showing jesus, mary and Joseph, etc are "Offending" them, get a life, Tolerance is a 2 way street. I am not a Democrat or Republican, nor will I ever be, I just believe in freedom, and choice. I will give anytime for Toy drives for kids, here in the USA.

Money/ wealth and power have always driven war. Religion was used as a manipulating factor to gain popular support of the respective populations within each power's realm. Convincing a less informed populace that you were doing something in the name of what they believe in was easier then the potential effects of a rebellion because the government wanted to gain more land, power, or wealth for themselves.

I do believe in a separation of church and state. Government has no right to make laws regarding religion. Religious minorities have been and still are being persecuted. People should be allowed to worship as they please so long as it does not infringe on the property rights of others or cause physical harm to others.

The sad thing is that at the conclusion of this thread not a single person participating will have learned anything from the other and you'll all have pointlessly argued for 2 pages straight to no avail.

I don't run with the big boys (otr) but I'm sure they talked bad about truckers.

I drive a dump truck (tri-axle ) locally. I'm at home in my bed every night.

Those over the road drivers see some things I don't think I could handle. I've heard horror story's about hauling in to the Bronx.

Did they give drivers a bad rap?

Actually it was very favorable. Drivers with college degrees, the dangers they face because of idiotic car drivers, life on the road, etc.

I like to think so as well. Often makes me wonder why we can't be nice all the time.

I know. Always wondering why it's only good for a few weeks a year. For that reason alone, we need an extended Christmas season.

I don't. I can just about imagine the scene, though.

An extended Christmas season? To encompass Thanksgiving? It's already encroaching on that holiday, if not already spilling over.

Christmas season in retail is hell. The same 5 songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. That annoyingly fake "Christmas spirit and cheer." Trees and lights, people worrying about burned out bulbs. The "music."

I really wish there was a Viking holiday celebration after Christmas. I could really go for pillaging some villages around December 26th or so.

It would be called ThanksFestivusCriss Day.

I take it you're not a fan of atheists such as these losers then?

We were far more civilized before

I mean, Attila the Hun must of been the life of the party

Love thy neighbor, give to the poor, and all that other stuff is so bad

Attila the Hun was an atheist? Hmm...learn something new everyday.

Love thy neighbor, give to the poor, and all that other stuff has existed in non-theist writings for over 2,500 years.

Have any proof?

Any proof of what statement?

Attila the Hun's religious sentiments? None, which is why one cannot come in and tacitly claim he was an atheist.

Love they neighbor, give to the poor, and all the other stuff being in non-theist writings for over 2,500 years? Yes. I suggest you read Plato's dialogues, some Aristotle, maybe go all the way back to the Presocratics (Anaxagoras, Pythagoras, etc.), read what Herodotus writes in his Histories, etc.

A plethora of non-theist (remember, theist implies the existence of a personal god, not just a supernatural force) ethical treatises exist in antiquity. And, plenty of these treatises speak of duties owed to neighbors and fellow citizens, duties owed to the poor, duties owed to widows and orphans, etc. Christianity did not bring much of anything new to the table; Christianity did a lot to incorporate a lot of Platonic ideals into Jewish theism (in fact, you can find much of that incorporation in Philo's writings, which were written about 30 years prior to the supposed crucifixion of Jesus).

Food for thought:

Imagine a situation in which NAMBLA is staging a toy-drive and sending the toys to children. The toys will come wrapped, and a card will express, "Happy NAMBLA Day, from your friends at the North American Man Boy Love Association". Would you take issue with a Christian group shutting down this toy drive?

You can do those things without being religious. Religion has brought nothing but pain, suffering, and wars since the dawn of mankind. It is a tool used to control the masses.

Someone perverting a message to achieve personal gain is not restricted to Religion. I can make similar arguements about the climate change movement. Politics using climate change to gain power and controll doesn't change the truth behind it. But as in religion, the only thing most people see is the perversion, and the truth is lost.

You're equating a North American Man-Boy Love Association toy drive with a Christmas toy drive?
