No disrespect to anyone on this thread, but I have been watching this kid play since he was young, and there is nothing that will keep him from being a RB. Yes he could play a number of positions and dominate, but this is what he's done since he was 5 years old and what he likes to do, so running the ball is what he WILL do.
Flat-footed he is anywhere between 6'2.75 - 6'3-2.5 tall. Yes, he's tall but most tall guys do not have the forward lean or lateral movement that he has. His defense is sick, and I think that he would have greater longevity on that side of the ball, but that is not where he wants to play.
The kid is just an absolute monster. The services can predict, rate him what they want, drop his star status due to his shoulder, etc. At the end of the day, none of that will matter. Volnation and the country will soon see the impact that he (as a freshmen) will bring to the team. He is relentless, and all he knows how to do is win.
Adrian Peterson- 6'1
Bo Jackson- 6'1
Herschel Walker- 6'1
OJ Simpson- 6'1
Darren McFadden- 6'1
Eric Dickerson- 6'3
You are correct in your thinking. Tall RB's are few and far between. Yes, you can name a couple of people that have succeeded despite being tall but an overwhelming majority of people that tall dont make very good rb's. We just have to hope he's basically a one of a kind back. We shall see.
Eric Dickerson, Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, OJ Anderson, Adrian Peterson, John Riggins, Marcus Allen, George Rodgers, Chuck Muncie, Franco Harris, Stephen Jackson, Eddie George, to name a few off the top of my head... all 6'2" or taller (except for Peterson who's a smallish 6'1") all great running backs.....
Brandon at 6-4 270 is a bigemBrandon Jacobs comes to mind for current players. Jalen will be a big bruising RB. If he gets in the second level you will see DB's shy away from coming up to hit him. This is the kinda back we need. I have a feeling you will see a smaller speed back as well next year. Maybe Pig?
There are plenty of examples of great backs over six feet. But 6-4 is really tall for a running back and, yes, size only hurts if it costs you something else, but the reason RBs arent' that tall is because height generally does come at the expense of agility. Which would be my biggest concern with Hurd is that he lacks the ability to change direction on a dime that you need in the SEC.

Eric Dickerson was 6'3" and not as fast as Hurd.Stupid argument!!!Hurd can't change direction???? Oh my who have you been watching.
ESPN has him listed at 6-4. I'm trying to think of an elite tailback who was that tall and I'm drawing a blank. I'm not saying that an elite 6-4 tailback is outside the realm of possibility, but I definitely think there's a reason the average height of running backs in the NFL is 5-9; namely, a lower center of gravity allows for quicker changes in direction, which is something running backs have to do.
The tallest elite running back I can come up with is Eric Dickerson, who is 6-3. So it isn't impossible, but he's definitely the exception. And he was also just a uniquely talented player.
Am I overthinking this? Is Hurd definitely going to be a stud?
