'14 GA RB Treyvon Paulk (UT Signee 2/5/14)

They've said its a possibility. Not on this particular tweet but grey shirting.

Didn't the report after his operation say that he would be unable to play next year anyway? Can't remember, old age does terrible things to a persons memory.
If that's the case then would it benefit Treyvon to just take a gray shirt next year? How would a gray shirt effect him as compared to a medical red shirt?
Sorry for all the questions just wondering.

Gray shirt would be almost preferable for him IMO.

He gets all next year to focus on rehabbing and getting back. He comes in basically as an EE in the 2015 class and still has his redshirt available if necessary. He can get the playbook this summer and spend time learning it.

Don't think he'd get to take advantage of elite rehab facilities/staff at UT, which would diminish his chances of ever getting back to 100%. He's already been promised his spot though, IIRC.

He lives in Atlanta. Do you not think there are elite rehab facilities and medical staff there? Considering there are 4 professional sports teams based in the ATL, I would venture to guess that his rehab is in very good hands.

Still think it's best for everyone if he greyshirts.

Really? Elite rehab facilities are available for free to anyone living near Atlanta?

Every injured high school kid gets the same quality treatment as Julio Jones?

Maybe his care won't be quite as good as it would be at UT, but I'm pretty sure most therapists can rehab a torn ACL. Unfortunately it is not an uncommon injury.

Plus I can tell you from experiance that even though you may be "cleared" to participate in drills and workouts in 6 months to a year, it took about a year and a half for the knee to truly feel right. That would be about the time he'd be enrolling at UT....:)

Did I say anywhere in my post that it would be for free? Don't think so. I just said that I am sure the resources are nearby for him to rehab appropriately. Considering that he plays the running back position and injuries are common there, he probably knows it would be best to save his redshirt in case something happens while he is playing at Tennessee. I'm sure the coaches have told him he will not be 100% by next year. It is a win-win for everyone, but I know the coaches will do what's best and take him in this class if he doesn't want to greyshirt.

Depends on his health insurance.

Everyone has gone GREYSHIRT mad...trying to squeeze two or three players into this fat class..I even read a suggestion for Jalen Hurd to take that route...don't greyshirts count against the 15 class? We might want some spots available in the next class...just in case they're still making talent

Gray shirting would help the numbers for 2014, but count against the numbers for the 2015 class. It would be best to get him on campus for rehab, get settled in for college life and academics, get mental reps and bond with teammates. Paulk, as many freshmen take a redshirt anyway so sign him for 2014, lock in his commitment and have him ready for 4 years beginning in 2015.

If it takes spots from next year just grey shirt a couple next year and do that until we have a year we don't need to. Personally hoping we get back to the good ole days where we had the best walk-on program in the country and everyone wanted to come join.

Agree with this. Let the kid sign with the 2014 class. Recruits and families will take notice that UT will stick by a kid who leaves it all on the field. Doing his rehab at UT would be ideal.

Post of the entire discussion here.

Very important to know because if he is at tenn it falls under TN to provide regardless of personal insurance

Which would be no problem for Tennessee. However, if he has an insurance that would cover his rehab at a respected facility, it may behoove him to go the gray shirt route.

Last year everyone was raving about how our amazing rehab abilities were a great recruiting tool because of how well Hunter came back.

Now that we have a numbers crunch, any ole facility is fine, the kid will be just as likely to get back to 100% at an average therapist as at UT.

And what makes everything better think he can afford/his insurance covers the best rehab available? I've got great insurance and my rehab options are very limited.

Your bolded statement doesn't jive with my bolded statement. If you're gonna quote me, don't change the context of my statement.
