'14 GA RB Treyvon Paulk (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Butch is building for the future. He knows there is a chance Paulk may not play in '14 because of the injury, but he will hopefully have Hurd, Lane and maybe another RB, like one of the Berrys to carry the load. Since freshmen are mostly given time to develop, he takes Paulk, gives him time to heal and develop and then he has a good RB for 3 to 4 years. So, the best scenario is to honor the scholly and get a very good player for the future.

Everyone seems to forget we have Pickett who likely would be getting meaningful snaps this year if he was eligible.

Lane missed the UGA game, right? I just remember the excitement about Pickett in fall camp.

yeah, but Tom Smith didnt get many carries IIRC. i think Pickett will end up on kick and punt returns next year. i think the RB depth will look like 1. Lane 2. Hurd 3. Pickett 4. Smith 5. Hill

I agree on the 1st 3 though I think Hurd could start. I don't know if Smith and Hill both stick around for another year.

Notes from fall camp:

Freshmen Marquez North, Dylan Wiesman and Corey Vereen, along with transfer running back Justus Pickett, all had their stripes removed Sunday night during a team meeting.

Justus Pickett, whose eligibility for 2013 is yet to be determined through the NCAA appeals process, has established himself as the third running back in the rotation (behind Rajion Neal and Marlin Lane, who’ve split first team reps).

Running Back | Who starts is still undecided, but I’m not sure it matters. Rajion Neal and Marlin Lane have split first team reps and that should continue through the course of the season. The story is Justus Pickett, who seems to be third in the rotation, usually working with the second team offense, ahead of the likes of Alden Hill and Tom Smith.

Running backs coach Robert Gillespie on transfer RB Justus Pickett

“He’s hungry, has a lot to prove, really good kid, smart, was able to pick up on everything as far as adjustments and protections, and was able to relate them to him to his last school. You’re talking about a guy that’s played two years as a true freshman and a true sophomore, so it’s really good to have that kind of maturity in the group. He came in and fit in really good from a mentality standpoint and hit it off well with the players. So far he’s doing really well.”

i agree that hes probably pretty good, but i dont consider 3rd team snaps as meaningful

My point is that I'm not sure we're all that desperate for another RB in this class and that Smith & Hill are not our only depth or even our best depth. I'm not opposed to the idea of another RB. More of everything is better. :)

Either Berry twin might see a tryout at RB. The more I look at it, I don't think we MUST take another RB for the 2014 class. We are already sitting nice with 4-5 top RBs for the 2015 class. We'll be fine.

We should look at Paulk as a good player for the future. Many Freshmen redshirt anyway and an extra year will give him time to heal. He is good enough to be a real keeper. We shouldn't just look at what he can do next year, but should have a really good player for the next 5 years.

Great attitude, team player. That's a rare thing these days, but this class is full of five star attitudes to go along with special talent.

Don't want to lose Paulk, he can make a full recovery and come back better than before. Love the running style he has, superb vision and strong for his size.

Have Hubbs or Fortenberry said anything about this. I think it would work out best for very one but Twitter can be misleading

I commend this young man if he were to take a grey shirt but I wouldn't blame either if he didn't want to. I love this kid's attitude. I love the attitude of the whole entire recruiting class.
