Martin really isn't that bad

Volbeast just likes to hate for no reason :p

Are u kidding me? I hold all our coaches to the same standards. He need s to start winning and getting good recruiting classes. It's that simple, the talent level is not going up after this yr. I want Zo to succeed but he has to prove it on the court.

That's what happens when you start 1 for 17 from the floor and finish 7 of 19 from the foul line. You can complain as much as you want about Martin, but if the players hit 35% from the field and made 50% of the foul shots, they win by 10. Simple as that.

And if Xavier didn't have two starters out, shot better from the foul line, and shot better in the first half.....Xavier beats us much worse.

I'm assuming most games that we lose our stats will look worse than our opponents.

"Why so sensitive?"

I'm sorry didn't mean to sound sensitive like most posters on here. Lol it does kill me how everyone with different views get labeled into categories.

Misguided and unnecessary. You weren't being sensitive, but you like to accuse everyone of that if they show any sign of opposition to your argument.

If he wasn't paying attention, he may very well be the smartest man in here.

well I will really throw a spitter... UT sports suck they have always sucked except for a few years... a very few times they have given a fan a reason to cheer:good!:

So switch your allegiance, you don't have to like UT. I'm sure nobody would miss you.

I'm a life long 76ers fan so I think I can definitely handle this era of ut sports

I know a lot of people believe Zo can do it here, but one must realize that all these great coaches listed in this thread know how to adjust their basketball philosophies. Zo hasn't showed anyone on here that he is willing to change his philosophy of hard nosed half court man defense and half court motion offense. So many people get false hope when we play below average teams and players like Stokes dominate. Stokes hasn't showed me anything to make me believe he will dominate in SEC play. He may average a double-double but he doesn't have the post moves/basketball IQ to fully take over games. Stokes simply put has terrible footwork on offense and defense, and it causes him to not get good looks on offense and pick up fouls on defense. If McRae doesn't score us close to 20 points a game in SEC play and against great competition outside the SEC we are in serious trouble. Zo also needs to get his rotation down to 8 guys and quit subbing so much, something I've seen Zjcvols complain about over and over again as well.

I get people complaing about Martin and have no problem with those who don't think he's the answer. There is evidence for both sides.

However, the idea that he's Wade Houston (wonder that comparison comes from) or even Buzz Peterson is asinine.

I've meet Buzz at a basketball camp one time and had lunch with him, all I have to say is he's one of the most arrogant people I've ever meet for someone who hasn't proven jack as a head basketball coach. The man's philosophy on basketball was to recruit players based on heart and not talent, because he felt he could teach them all they needed to know as long as they were good people. I know cool story bro, but it's the truth.

Buzz took a team to the NCAA tourney and won the NIT. Wade Houston won two road games in the NIT and made the finals of the SEC tourney. As of yet, Martin has not reached their highest achievement.

As the coach of UT? Wrong entirely regarding Peterson. He lost in the NIT first round in years 2 and 3. Good try.

He didn't say at Tennessee. He said took a team and he did. Peterson has taken three teams to the NCAA and 5 teams to the NIT and won the NIT at Tulsa before coming here.

Either way, compare their UT records and it's not close that Martin is down to the level of Peterson and Houston. Saying they are is ignorant and out of touch with reality.

If either of those guys were still coaching here I'd cry.

He's not better than Peterson by much and only Dooley is as bad as Houston was.

Martin has both a 20-win and 19-win season to his record at UT. Peterson's high-water mark was 17 wins. He also had a losing season in year one.

Both followed successful periods in UT basketball, so I'd say you're either giving Buzz way to much credit, or not giving Zo nearly enough.
