Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

All Sal jokes aside, the loss of Sunseri is going to be a major blow to Bama's D, and not many people have taken note of that. He is the quarterback of their D.

Agree. I knew it'd be a big loss for them when I saw he would be out. For them, Sunseri is almost like having Saban himself suited up back there making sure everyone is on the same page.

Something to think about....uga was missing their starting CB coming into our game and usce was missing their starting safety coming into our game. I'm just saying... Obviously V Sunseri means a lot more to bama's D than the other two bc they were both younger guys and Vinnie is a 3/4 year starter.

Could it be? Could Justin "bounce pass" Worley outshine another of the sec's top qb's again with them having a new starter in their secondary? My magic 8 ball just told me "Hell Yeah, stupid question." :)

Is their NT that will suspended a starter? What about the other guy that was mentioned to be out for them?

"Les was handed the program on a silver platter and has been running it into the ground ever since."

If that's a program that's been run into the ground then I'm Al Sharpton.

Sans SC, who really knows what the cellar of the SEC feels like (it's practically memorialized after their 0-11 season), I wish each one of those fans would have to endure three seasons of "Precious" at the helm.

Perspective...they have none.

Seriously. A few bad coaching moves and they could be a bottom feeder like the VOLS were. With the win against a ranked team and a good recruiting class we are finally coming up for air. Not taking that for granted.

Remember this kid last year making that throat slashing gesture on the sidelines and thinking yeah but you needed your old mans help in getting it done.

Just visited the FB forum for a second and some guy was posting that he didn't want us to beat Bama because it would take the NC out of the SEC..........geeee

Why do I torture myself by going over there????????

They've never been a true cellar-dweller, but hiring Jerry Dinardo was about as bad or worse a hire than our former coach was.

I think Collins has filled in some at CB recently and now with Vinnie out Collins falls back to strong safety which I think is his real position on the team. I think Fulton is the favorite at CB. He's a senior but it's my understanding he gets picked on a lot, by everybody, so I got the impression that the fans aren't really thrilled about that.

They have Eddie Jackson on the other side and to hear it, he shuts shuts down not only his own side, but the other...THROUGH FORCE OF WILL...camsuttonsprettygoodtoo

Must be a troll Coasty. Not a Vol fan.

Serious question.... Are you guys not worried about how UA's WRs matchup with our DBs?

Say what you want, but Norwood is a solid WR. He would probably start for us. Runs good routes and is a solid possession guy.

Kenny Bell is a guy that can stretch the field. Very fast. Burns defenses on play action. We all know what Amari Cooper can do. O.J. Howard is a threat from the TE/H-Back position.

Outside of Sutton, we are undoubtedly screwed at the CB position. I think Toney is slowly progressing, but he's still a liability in coverage. Coleman got beat twice in last year's game, so I'm sure he will get picked on.

Maybe if we get enough pressure on AJ, he will force throws, or have to dump it off or hit his hot route. We need to try and get them in 3rd and long early. So we can see their sets and looks and maybe we can adjust in the 2nd half.

Where do you think our pass defense ranks in relation to Ole Miss, Va Tech, and Arky? If you look at the performances against just conference competition we are sitting at #2, Va Tech would be at #3 I think, Ark is at #5, and Ole Miss is at #6. Every game is different obviously but the play of our secondary has improved or at least seemingly so. Yeah we gave up a bomb to Shaw but he was 7-21 and Spurrier was bemoaning the fact that he knew he called a lot more pass plays than that. It was fun for me watching Conner scrambling around looking downfield hoping someone would come open. That didn't seem to happen and the one time he took a chance Sutton made him pay. All three of those defenses noted herein held AJ to 180 yards or less through the air. Ole Miss held him to 5.6 yds per attempt and intercepted him once. Va Tech intercepted him as well.

Of course team defense makes a difference but we've been performing well the last couple of weeks and seem to be able to hold our own. Granted the UGA receivers were falling like flies but we also did a pretty good job on Byrd and Ellington, both of who have more receiving yards on the year than any of the Bama receivers. I think Alabama's receivers have more catches though which I think suggest primarily a short passing game. That should provide opportunities for our defense to make some plays.

Obviously we can't give up the deep ball but I think we'll scheme a bit differently for this game than we did against UGA and USCe. In a way it's easier or could be. Bama is more talented and is relatively healthy but we outgained both UGA and USCe through the air. I'm not guaranteeing that we'll do that again this week but I do want to point out that UGA and USCe out rushed us, which is also Bama's strength. Take away Shaw's rushing yards and we marginally outrush USCe. The same is true with UGA; take away Murray's long run and we come out marginally ahead. AJ has yet to demonstrate anything in the rushing department that would suggest he is a mobile QB. I think that gets factored into our scheme and we hopefully will have even more success defensively this week than we have had in previous weeks.

I think the real question in this game is how our offense will perform against their defense. We have a talented offense but limited experience at key skill positions. Those guys are going to have to make some plays and all the while protect the football. I think it will come down to scheming and execution. I also think we see some things from the playbook that we haven't seen yet but the real test will be between our OLine & RBs and Bama's front 7. It's mano-e-mano and however that goes is likely to decide the game. I don't think we can stop Bama's offense but I do think we can slow it down. Can our offense push their defense enough to get us the necessary points to come out ahead? The key to the game imo is we have to be able to run the ball.

i am with chavis on this one - for the life i can't understand SEC pride - i mean really, your going to chant SEC when your hated rivals win a national title, which leads them to get more resources to get more recruits that you won't get further marginalizing your program

morons - i want bama and florida to lose every game they play and would be perfectly fine with UK, vandy, and USCjr going back to automatics - i only care about my team winning - F the SEC

I seriously can't believe we're 28 point dogs to ua. Ark was the same last week @ua and uk was 27.5 a couple weeks ago in Lexington. I just don't see how vegas sees us as being on the same level as those two teams. Maybe they have us at +28 bc that's what we were @ #2 Oregon, Idk.

With that said, I'm kinda glad it is so high. It's a slap in the face to our players and coaches after our last two games plus this is one of the most storied rivalries in all of cfb. I hope vegas, bama, and everyone else keeps doubting Butch and 117. Keep doubting us, F'ers. Keep telling yourself this is the same ole UT from the last few years. Keep thinking we're on the same level as Ark with Bret Beilema or uk with Mark Stoops. Butch slaps will be handed out accordingly.

There are some who will attempt to measure Bama in comparison to Oregon by their performance against us. That's out there. So a lot of people thinks that Bama had to blow us out in order to maintain legitimacy with the poll voters. They don't factor in things like we're an improving football team under a new staff. All they will see is the point differential between the two games. In that regard the thinking is Bama has a lot riding on stepping on the gas against us. Now, the spread isn't just Vegas. It's where the money is going. Obviously the whole betting world thinks this will be a blowout game. If there was substantially more money coming in on us to cover then the spread would be shrinking. It's not. I've checked out some of the Bama message boards and I'm wondering if the rolltide website will post the Bama fans meltdown commentary after we piss on their dreams this Saturday.
