Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

Let's see how the weekend plays out before assuming the underdog role against Mizzou. Have watched them a couple of times and not sold yet. I think they have overachieved like Vandy did a year ago. UF is a shell of its former self. They are horrid on O and have a lot of injuries to deal with on D.

One thing that shocked me yestersay.

Mizzu is a 5pt(we were a 7pt dog) underdog at home against USCe without shaw. I don't get that.

From that vegas only sees a 2pt difference in us and mizzu. Or they even see us as better than them since USCe has a new QB

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we go to Tuscaloosa this weekend & keep it real real close or steal one. We have better talent & better coaching than that '09 team.

Fortenberry disagrees with 247's report that UT might take up to 31 in '15. He said "It will only be around 20."

I think by NSD '15 it grows closer to 25 but I don't think they take as many as 31.

We'll take 25. Stuff always happens, kids transfer, quit football, get dismissed ect..

If we take 30 this year, we will only be permitted to take 25 next year (2015) because we will not be able to backcount any EEs to the 2014 class. Another factor in how many we ultimately end up signing in 2015 will be the 85 scholarship max.

Agreed but there is no math with the new 25 rule where we can sign over 25 is there??

If we max out this year, 25 is the max next year regardless of EEs unless I am missing something

Correct. If we max out this class we can only take 25 in '15.

Lol. IMO most on here are way undervaluing mizzu. They are legit IMO. Unless they get banged up badly this week that game looks bleak from my seat.

Well...if they don't get banged up this Saturday, they'll definitely get banged up NEXT Saturday.

That seems to be our M.O. lately...

As far as Mizzou goes, I'm not ready to crown them East champs yet, although the 500+ yards of offense they put up against Florida on Saturday is legit. They took the best D in the SEC (IMO) and made them look like chumps...impressive to say the least.

AU will be tough, very tough, IMO. We need Neyland to register on the Richter Scale that night...

I hope it will too...it'll be the first game I take my 4 year old too and I can't wait to see her reaction.

If we can split the Mizzou & AU game I think get to 7 wins and go to the MCB here in Nashville but anyone who thinks this team will lay an egg against Vandy has lost their damn minds. I have no doubt it'll be a battle but the Seniors and the Juniors on this team who could potentially be playing their last game in Neyland will NOT let that a**hat, JF, leave here without feeling every single point. It might even be close...but we win, period.

Whatever the case, I think we go bowling this year, which by all accounts was the goal for this team before the season began.

Next year we start contending again and in '15 I think we're a legitimate top 15 team, maybe better.

Feels GREAT to have a gut feeling about the future of the team that isn't conducive to nausea. Can someone remind me....is this what it felt like around '89-'90?!? (I think Coasty and OldVol might be the only ones besides me and a few others who might remember...) :)

Won't be able to backcount any. Max should be 25 and I expect they'll hit that number.

I have been saying we match up with Bama in comparison to how we matched with Georgia ... If we can keep it close into the fourth qrt we got a chance

Any chance it was a typo or blunder and they meant up to 31 in THIS class? Whoever wrote that might have had notes that said we could take 31 this class and either wrote '15 instead of '14 on his notes, or he read his notes wrong and ruined a whole story because of if?

That was my first thoughts anyways. Who wrote it Wes?

I think you are correct in that they confused 14 with 15 but even then they were still wrong just not as badly

While Florida may have been the best defense in the conference early on I'm not sure that continues to be the case.

Under the possibly worth considering file:

Things looked bleak for Florida's D even before kickoff, as the unit was already depleted by injuries.

Starting defensive lineman Damien Jacobs was left behind in Gainesville due to a head injury stemming from last week's loss to LSU. Though linebacker Ronald Powell made the trip to Missouri, he didn't dress out, as he was sidelined with an ankle injury. Not to mention, defensive tackle Dominique Easley already said farewell to his collegiate career, officially undergoing surgery on his ACL Thursday.

Things went from bad to worse less than 30 seconds into play when safety Cody Riggs was ejected for targeting MU receiver L'Damian Washington. The rest of the day continued to be painful on both sides of the ball for Florida.

Thanks for the shout out blood... and H*** YES this reminds me of 89-90 feeling. Honestly though this year reminds me more of the 88 year... the Georgia game was kinda like that Bama game in 88... we had lost 5 in a row but we gave Bama all they wanted in 88 but still lost.....

We finished 88 with 5 straight wins and by the time 89 came around we couldn't wait for the season to start..you could feel it in the air, smell it in the stadium and hear it in John Wards voice... you just KNEW we had something special coming... that 89 team went 10-1 with our only loss to a great Bama team ...then went on to win aganist Arky in the cotton bowl...

I SEE HISTORY REPEATING IT'SELF HERE AND NOW

As far as Vandy goes, we will win, but it will be a hard fought battle... they always play well against us, we have beat them based on depth over the years... this year will will have to outplay them for four qrts.... but that is what will happen against the rest of the teams we play this year... AND we have a chance against every team left on our schedule

Tony Robinson laughing about Coach Majors wearing his old jersey...."He said it still fit....put the pads on and see if it still fits!". HAHAHA!

CBJ cleared that up last week. It's 30
Technically he said thirty, but god knows how many times I've rounded numbers.

Here's the quote:
Tennessee Football ‏@Vol_Football 13h
JONES: We will sign 30 individuals in this class. You will see some taller corners and safeties in the class.

It really lacks context of the quote and how he said it. If the question was "How many individuals will we see in this recruiting class?" I think the 30 is solid but if the question was something like "What do you think about this year's recruiting class, what should we expect?" The quote could be a rounded number.

Maybe I'm thinking too far into it, but if we CAN sign 31, I think we WILL. I'm no rule expert, but there are conflicting reports.
