Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

On to Bama, boys!! This team believes in each other...anything is possible, and they believe they can go toe to toe with anyone. There is no doubt that they will come out and play with a ton of heart on Saturday. Just hope we can be in the game in the 4th quarter with a chance. One thing that we really have to start doing better on offense in the passing game is throw the ball in the middle of the field. We only do it about 1-2x a game it seems, and those patterns are always open and always seem to go for a big chunk of yardage...case in point, Croom's and Downs' catches in middle of field on a crossing pattern and hot read down the seam for huge gains.

I have thought about this too- not using the middle of the field very much. I am guessing they are trying to limit Worley's throws in the middle of the field but don't know. The throws to Downs and Croom were big plays and I think we could see more of it as CBJ coaches more games.

I was more impressed with the catch that isn't getting as much attention. It showed a strength and physicality that was some kind of elite!

Yep. Some comparing him to Hunter (w/ more strength), reminds me more of Robert Meachem similar ht, size, speed and strength.

4 long years weve all been waiting for that. I had literally forgotten what it feels like to win those kinds of games.

And talk about the battered wives of Vol Nation, I had a nagging voice telling me we were going to lose up until the refs walked out.

In the old days under the one whose name can not be mentioned, the catch would not have been made AND the refs would not have called the interference and the Vols would have lost. But, it is a new day on Rocky Top. Marquez North gets it.

He palmed the ball in his right hand as he was going down. Reminds me something that Calvin Johnson would do.

Was born and raised in the south. Have lived in the south my entire life. I was born into a family where my dad was pretty much the only Tennessee fan. Have Vanderbilt fans scattered throughout but on one side i have tons of bama fans in my family. And growing up when we were losing 10 or 20 games in a row, how many ever it was, I had it rubbed in my face every year. Grew to hate the Crimson tide. Don't care who is playing them, I am rooting for the other team.

I would be fine if Bama never won another game in the history of their program. An Alabama loss is almost as good as a Tennessee win in my book. And I pull almost as hard for bama to lose every game they play as I do for Tennessee to win every game they play.

Nuff said

Word, opponents wins help their recruiting, which hurts Tn. Periodismo

Colin Cowherd just heaped on a lot of praise on his show on ESPN2. Said he loved Butch Jones and called us a big sleeping giant. Said college football is better when Tennessee is great because of our great tradition. We were number 3 on his wins from yesterday behind FSU and Auburn.

I had to work yesterday and didn't get to see the game but I recorded it and watched it when I got home. I've been a Vol fan since the Curt Watson, Carl Johnson, and others in the 70's. I had to wipe some tears from my eyes not for me, but for the Seniors and Juniors who have gone through so much crap like Parlardy. So so so glad to have a classy coaching staff that, yea, GETS IT! :good!:

Actually, on that play where Spurrier ran out the offense on fourth down late in the game, we would have had a 17 player mix of punt return and defensive units with no timeout to correct it. First down, game over.

Watching the North gif,

I think he pulls it in, about 6 feet in front of The Visor

Speaking of which, no appearances from our USCe posters recently, huh?

I never go to opponents boards but I bet cocky talk is nuking some new posters this am

After reading the forum last night I believe it is time for Catbone to take a timeout.

Oh yeah, my appreciation for Ron Swanson grows. Read every post during game and you sir are someone I want to hang witb during games. Let me know if you ever come to Florida.

We better enjoy North for the next couple of seasons cause that dude will be playing in the Big Show for sure! And I believe its going to push and encourage Croom to continue to get better. I believe, just like many of you, that we are going to see Croom pull off some awesome catches just like North. What a core of WR we have and going to have.

Thought about starting a thread in FB forum but would prefer getting you guys opionion here.

What's a realistic expectation for CBJ assuming he stays here 10yrs???

Here's mine:

10bowl games
3bcs bowl games
2play off appearances
3sec east titles
1sec title

To high?
To low?

Too low on 10 years, too low on BCS bowls, too low on east titles, too low on SEC titles. Try again.

Strangely enough Missouri might be at the top too. They've still got a long way to go this season, but they've impressed me the last couple games.

Missouri is pretty good, but they are set up with a really weak schedule out of conference, coupled with some fortuitous scheduling of other teams. Catching UGA after 2 very tough games with a bunch of injuries piled up made a huge difference. They catch USCe after 2 road games, them being the third. Vols go the week after playing Bama. Manziel might not make it to the end of the year. He has already been hurt twice, and without him and Mike Evans, A&M is not good. Didn't watch the UF game yesterday, so I don't know what to make of that. Would like to see them play a team that is good on both sides of the ball.

Sitting here watching Jancek on the CBJ show. Then my mind goes back to the chump UGA fans and how they ridiculed the hire of Jancek and kept saying how sorry he is. I can say he's gotten 10 times more out of his players this yr than Grantham. From what I've seen I'd take Jancek over coke head Grantham.....and it's not even close.

Yesterday was a crazy day in college football. The underdogs took control. I saw so many sick catches by WRs that you rarely ever see( north, Stanford and Fsu WRs)

Im prob just drinking kool aid but I think we will give bama a game next wknd. I think our dline can put pressure on AJ. We match up well with the style of offense they run. I wouldn't predict us to win but I will dream all week about how crazy it would be if we upset bama.

I don't disagree with any of that, but I'm more looking at the makeup of the east over the next couple years. Do you see Florida, USCjr, or UGA being great within the next year or two? USC has peaked IMO, UGA loses Murray, and Florida is floundering. Missouri has a legit freshman QB and an offense that racked up 500 yards against an injured but still solid UF defense.

Agreed.

The HC means so much. CBJ is an offensive guy but its very clear to me his attention to detail and discipline is very much apart of the defensive side of the ball as well. MR doesn't give that at Georgia IMO. Failing under MR is more of an indictment on MR than Jancek IMO

Like players, coaches get better with experience. Just because he didn't have a great go of it at UGA doesn't mean he's incapable of improving and putting together a better scheme with more experience. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.
