As much respect as kingsbury gets as an OC, Texas is gonna go big on their next HC. HC experience a must

Texas top 5 candidates IMO
1) Saban
2) Strong
3) Patterson
4) Peterson
5) Briles

Anybody else would be a major disappointment to the Texas fan base.

What position group for UT needs to play the best in order for UT to compete with Oregon?

"I think obviously the front seven has to be lights out, but as far as being significantly better than what we've seen so far I would definitely say QB's and WR's would need to step up in a big way."

-Rob Lewis

"I think the defensive line. Pressure Mariota and contain Mariota. Stop the run and usually things go in your favor."

-Fortenberry

"I think the entire defense. If you're going to pin me down for one group, I think the defensive ends have to have a great day. This is a very difficult challenge for the defensive ends."

-Hubbs

I thought I understood if we try to pressure Mariota he burns us with his feet because he's fast and elusive enough we'd end up chasing him out of the backfield and off to the races. Contain I think was the plan. Keep him in the pocket. Stay at home. Gap Discipline. Take away the run and defend the pass.

IMO, our coaching staff would be much better served if they continued to get the game planning advice from VolNation and just tuned out these VQ guys. At least we have links to Stanford's successful strategy. jmo. tifwiw.

Peterson will be #1 on USC's board. If he doesn't take it he'll be a lifer at Boise.

Peterson can be #1 on everybody's board, I just don't think he's leaving Boise....which is crazy to me, but...ok.

I...like...potatoes...too?

college football and Texas were different back then. A team with its own network isn't hiring an up and comer.

Agreed. Fulmer had the advantage of coaching against such stalwarts as Jim Donnan, Mike Price & Shula, Dennis Franchionne, Gerry Dinardo, etc....when the coaching landscape changed, he was exposed and the game passed him by.

Same thing seems to be happening to Brown.

I can see this happening to Fisher on one of our interception returns. I hope somebody lights him up!

IMO these are some games that could be potential upsets this week... long list this week

#24 TCU @ Texas Tech (T-Tech won)
UT @ #2 Oregon (because im a homer)
#1 Alabama @ #6 TAMU (not that big of an upset, TAMU at home)
#4 Ohio St @ Cal (unlikely IMO but Cal is decent and home team)
Vandy @ #13 SCAR (SCAR has not looked very hot this year. and even though i hate Vandy, its possible)
#16 UCLA @ #23 Nebraska (not that big of an upset and its at Neb)
#19 Washington @ Illinois (Illi dusted Cinci and are playing at home)
#20 Wisconsin @ ASU (neither team has been scored on. both look good. ASU is home team)
#25 Ole Miss @ Texas (although Texas looked bad last week against BYU, they are at home... so you never know)

What get's lost in the stats comparisons is the eye test of the results of the games. If you believe UVA is better than WKU, then you think Oregon is at a higher level since they won big on the road. If you think the opposite, then you know the Vols have a reasonable chance in Eugene if they can overcome adversity, since they won big against a better team with a proven coach and left a lot of points on the field. If you think the opponents were about the same, it's a comfortable pick for Oregon to win easily with the home crowd and UT's penchant for getting stupid against ranked teams for the last half dozen years.

IMO, it comes down to whether this team will take a step and man up against a talented system team. They have absolutely nothing to lose as a 4 TD dog. Can't wait to see what happens as it will tell us how much they have matured as players under Butch/staff. A big loss will not mean that he is not getting it done - it will just mean there is a lot of work left and roster spots to fill. A well played game will tell us the real deal has arrived on Rocky Top and we will have much to celebrate.
