I don't know if we'll be in our base defense this week.

Evan Woodbery did a snap by snap count of our formation in the AP game but I haven't seen anything from him on the WKU game. Anyway this is what he found:

At Tennessee and elsewhere, nickel becoming the new normal | Evan's Eleven

All I'm suggesting is that we're not locked into any particular scheme. We'll just have to see how it plays out.

Here in Tucson, RichRod utilizes the base 3-3-5 stack defense which counteracts the spread/zone option, which makes sense with the PAC 12 spread offenses.

The primary advantage is that the defense can easily switch from a 4-3 or 3-4 defense to the 335 defense without changing personnel prior to the snap. This would allow teams who run a base 3-4 or 4-3 to shift to a 335 when needed based on the play call or a zone read team such as Oregon.

The drawback is that you need the proper personnel/athletes in order for the 335 to be effective, specifically a NT that can eat up 2 gaps and a Spur/Bandit (Safety/OLB hybrid) that can make plays.

More teams are implementing and using the 335 (Alabama/OSU) in addition to their base defense. They can because they have the athletes required to be effective.

Wouldn't be surprised to see this type of defense more prevalent in the NFL soon.

A couple things I just thought about. Seeing that Mo Couch is the only active player named in the yahoo story, could he have decided that he was gonna forgo his Sr year, making it ok to take the money, after last season when other teammates were making their own decisions in December and that's when he took the money only to change his mind and decide to stay? I think there's a good possibility that's what might have happened. I know some may say they don't think he would've been considering leaving early but remember Sentimore unwisely left, imo, so it's likely Couch was thinking the same, especially with the family and all. The report said all the payments happened between Sept of 2011 through Dec of 2012 so last Dec would've been the time Couch took the money, imo. I wonder if the Western Union receipt to Couch has a Dec 2012 date. Anyone got that pic of the receipt?

Also, Do y'all think it's a bit odd that UT and Moo St each had two players mentioned in the yahoo story and bama only had one despite the "runner" for the agent (Luther something) playing for bama through the 2011 season?

What seems odd to me is the fact that this runner obviously knows all the players pretty well still at bama (Jr's & Sr's) as well as all the players from their last two graduating classes. With so many bama players getting drafted the last two years (plus others that were in NFL camps despite not getting drafted) since this guy has been a runner as well as all the NFL prospects on the current bama team, do y'all really think that DJ Fluker was the ONLY bama player this guy gave money to?

...Regardless if he is asked to leave or ends up with a suspension he will always be a member of the TN Family. With that said, IF the allegations are proven true you have no choice but to let him go. You can have 0 tolerance with this and the players must understand that...We all know there are some rules you just can’t break without serious repercussion. Again, I understand he is young and has a young family. If this is proven to be true, I know we will see the character of CBJ and will handle this with class for the University and Mo. He will have no choice but to ask him to leave but I guarantee he will not leave Mo hanging out to dry. I believe behind the scenes Mo will get the support he needs.

But, if I'm a "first-time" offender and broke a "rule" to the degree Mo did, I would hope my family would ultimately give me a second-chance following some equitable degree of punishment. If the man was a chronic malcontent or we're talking a new Corvette or $30k, that's a whole different set of facts.

I agree with the earlier poster (Oci?)...don't crush a guy when the "environment" (NCAA) is unfair to begin with.

More reasonable scenario and better way to teach a lesson imo

Kicking him off the team would be like disowning your kid for breaking a window while throwing a baseball in the house.

Keep Mo on the team and show him the tough love, that is the way true family does it.

The NCAA will not be able to act on this until ESPN completes their investigation and tells them what needs to be done to TN. JMO

Saw where one of the vandy players alleged in the incident is already playing at Alcorn St. Kinda crazy.

Does anyone know who posted bail for all four of those guys? Iirc, they all had a $350,000 bail which would mean someone had to pay $35,000 for each to get out. Not many families have that kind of money laying around. Anyone know any details about this? I don't ever remember hearing or reading who came up with each one's bail. Was it even reported?

One of them had a 50k bail, hence the speculation that he's cooperating.

This is not an anomaly. It is a snapshot of what is occurring at every major program in every major conference in the country. It was just these few players whose information was discovered.

It is ironic that they chose to go after SEC schools instead of say, Bug Ten or Pac Ten schools.

A Few College Football Things On My Mind... ATM

1. Injuries are plaguing this team and are going to hurt us. Jones, Vereen, Smith, Jenkins, Howard, Young and others. Along with players like Maggitt who aren't 100%

2. Even though we are on probation, I don't think much will come of the Mo Couch and Tyler Bray situation. The NCAA has become a joke.

3. The strength of the SEC has declined. At the same time, the strength of the ACC has increased and will rise even more once teams like Louisville join. Its crazy to see that after the 2nd week, the only SEC East teams that are 2-0 are UT and Mizzou. The east already has 3 OOC losses.

4. When we get a commit that doesn't have a high star rating or a good offer list, people on VN need to take a breathe and wait before posting. Watch tape or find out more info on the kid before you post something negative. Scouting services don't find every great athlete. A lot of times a 2* means they haven't been fully evaluated yet (not always though). People were hating on the Weatherd commit and now look at him.

5. I'm so happy that Kiffin is having problems. Karma is in action.

6. I'm waiting to see what happens with the Vandy scandal when more information is released. I wonder if any former players will snitch on Franklin while on the stand.

7. I don't like the idea of all college football players getting paid. If it is ever aloud, the most wealthy programs will always get the best prospects. I like college football 100 time more than the NFL. With players getting paid, attitudes will change and it will be similar to the NFL.

8. A lot of people have been hating on Worley's accuracy. He is currently 22/32 246 yards with 4 TDs. Surprisingly Mariota's completion percentage is even lower. He is 26/49 433 yards with 3 TDs. Worley's percentage and TD count is higher, but Mariota has thrown for way more yards. After watching the OU/UVA game, I think one major reason for that is because Mariota will throw a screen and his RB will make a play for a huge amount of yards. Biggest difference is Mariota makes plays with his feet. Kid is dangerous
