Agreed. Taking the job and doing what he did there is impressive, but at Vandy he will never be a 10-12 win guy and will never land elite recruiting classes. He could continue there and always try to be a "spoiler" to us, UF, SCAR, UGA or he can go somewhere where he can have success at a higher level like USCw, Nebraska, Texas, Cal, etc

Agree. Nebraska is kind of like UT IMO. Storied program (except UT is a better program), good traditions, an exclusive location (meaning UT is in East TN some wont give it a chance and same goes with Nebraska, again most would choose Knox over Lincoln) and they just need a kickstart like Butch gave us. I'm not saying Franky is a good coach, but he's an energy guy who can recruit well. If Pelini loses his job, that could be a desirable location for an up and coming coach. He'd be a big hit at a place like Nebraska IMO. And if they keep down the road they are currently on that job could very well be open. Them giving up 600+yds to Wyoming and barely winning wasn't a good start for Pelini. Especially on the heels of the 70 point thrashing by Wisconsin at the end of last year.

This. Honestly the job at Nebraska is a great opportunity of it opens up. A lot of major programs could be looking for a coach within the next few years. I listed some earlier, but here we go: Cal, USC, Texas, UGA, Nebraska, hell even GA Tech. GA Tech isn't as prestigious as the other schools, but all they need is one Frank Beamer (in his prime) to be the "new VT"I'm curious why he wouldn't leave for Nebraska? It's a big time program.

If Texas opens up, I could honestly see Muschamp bolting there. JMO
Nebraska is a big time football program! I'm talking top 10 all time big. To turn a program like that to stay at Vandy would be asinine.
Personally, I don't believe that Nebraska would offer the position to Franklin at this point. Like Tennessee, the Nebraska position is a "destination" job and I don't believe that they would regard him as sufficiently proven to be a deserving candidate. However, if they did so and he refused to take the Nebraska position, the unspoken message that he would be sending is that, "contrary to what I attempt to convey, I really DON'T have the confidence that I would succeed at a program of Nebraska's stature."
Cal would be a more appropriate niche, an outstanding public university, so he would be used to the recruiting demands intrinsic to the position, but one that lacks the expectations associated with USC.
I'm confused. Didn't Cal just hire a coach? And didn't Nebraska hire Pelini with zero HC experience? Serious questions.
Edit: also, what year was it when Bama blocked the FG and flew to the other end in FG range for them? Thanks in advance
I don't know about Cal. Somebody else mentioned them earlier in the same context, so I was responding to that point as well. I believe that you are correct, however, about Pelini's lack of prior head coaching experience. I am, of course, biased against Franklin, but, if I were Nebraska's AD, I would not be convinced by his achievements thus far, that he was ready for a position of Nebraska's magnitude.
I hope he bombs out and never gets a big time job. If that's wrong of me then I guess I don't wanna be right.
I mentioned Cal, and I also said in 1-2 years and by that I meant after this year or the next. Many of coaches have been fired in two years at a school, depending on the circumstances.
