"Butch giving a lot of respect to Western Ky. today. Cites much better personnel than what Vols saw this past weekend, especially at linebacker.

Added that no one on the Tennessee side should be satisfied with Saturday after watching Austin Peay film.

Harped on the need to finish better, especially in the offensive line.

Gave Trevarris Saulsberry a shout out for being disruptive. Says he could be doing more."

On Marcus Jackson.

"Said was a situation to play some young guys which is why Jackson didn't play per Butch. They will continue to look at it moving forward. Said Jackson had a great fall camp."

-Hubbs

So is there something else going on besides trying to RS??

If he plays Saturday and there were no injuries he was suspended IMO

"You can find #dlineU partying at the quarterback"

Lol

Don't want to read into this too much, but it makes me wonder if they've been watching WKU film and see some opportunities to pad the sack numbers. I'm still watching through that WKU/UK game, but my early impressions are the WKU O-Line is big, but slow. We might see more blitzes and other tricks to get their QB off his rhythm. (If he can sit back there unharmed, he's good enough to pick us apart through the air, IMO).

No doubt. Perhaps it's all what I am comfortable with but it seems to me with an elite OL and 2 elite RBs, the QB can be average and still win championships in a pro style and not with the spread

With our personal on offense now which style offense would be more successful??? Assuming both are coached well

Spread or pro style??

I think the same can be said for our flavor of spread. A large percentage of our plays will be inside and outside zone runs. With an elite line and two elite RBs, we can have a hard-nosed running game out if the spread. It might even be more effective since you'll see much fewer 8 and 9 man boxes. I think the important thing you need is a coach who will tailor his offense to his talent. Right now I'm confident CBJ will put us in the best position we can be with our personnel.

As far as personnel, I'm not sure if its a spread vs pro style question as much as being much better designed for a power run game. Honestly I might even lead a little towards us being better fit for the spread. We don't have TEs that are really proven run blockers. We have a handful of small shifty slot WRs who have the potential to make plays in space. Our OL and RBs would produce in either system. Worley played in a spread passing system all through high school. I'm not even sure how good he would be at 3/5/7 step drops and reading defenses from under center. It would add a level of complexity he's not used to.

Good talk! Thanks for the discussion. You make solid points that make me feel better about the spread

It has been said that he was not in trouble. They are not talking about it publicly, but if everyone stays healthy, he's redshirting.

#1 you think it wins a championship without a Heisman talent at QB??

I am 50/50

#2 no argument

#3 my arguement was the 2nd team kids will play and are counted on. BB posted just the opposite.

#4 agreed totally

1. I love how everytime a spread team is successful, we claim it's because of their qb who is an anomaly.

Bama has recruited at the top of CFB since Saban got there, I don't know their names or how it will happen, but I'll be shocked if Bama doesn't come out 100x more prepared for that game than they looked vs. VT. You really think Saban is going to let JM play the same game he played last year? I wouldn't be surprised if JM ends up in the locker room with an injury before the game is over. Bama is coming after him and his spoiled brat attitude is going to get punched in the mouth all up and down his own field. JMO
Ron nothing to do with recruits.Do u have any video of us honoring Chuck Webb last Sat at the Ap game.Would love to see it.Loved watching him play.....

You can win 10-11 games with it, but to consistently knock off bama I think you are right about needing a Heisman-esque QB. Its either that or have a killer defense and killer run game.

this is true of every team, running any offence, that is trying to beat the current version of Bama. No system will beat Bama consistently. Playmakers are required and Butch is leading in the right direction on that.

History says that's the case

1. Tebow would have been a backup if Newton wasn't a felon. So he's not all that great.

2. Garcia and Shaw at USCjr, West Virinia under Rich Rod, Oregon, and countless others have had tremendous results running this offense without a Heisman trophy caliber qb.

3. Have you ever considered that maybe it's the offense that makes the qb look so good? Tebow, countless Texas tech and Hawaii qb's would all say that is so.

And finally...of course a NC team running this offense has a Heisman qb. He wins the Heisman because he is both a qb and a RB. So thanks to this offense his stats become unreal. Not because of his talent, just because of the scheme.

Stat that stands out in the WKU-KY game.

Kentucky's average rushing gain was 6.8 yards per carry!

Neal and Lane have to like that.

Another stat worth mentioning. WKU had the ball 10 minutes more than KY, which probably explains the 35-26 score.

I hope we can flip the time of possession on the Hilltoppers and keep the ball 10 minutes more than them. We need to keep their offense off the field with our lack of quality depth at cornerback.

I am discussing success in the SEC. So far we have two championship offenses that were spread. Florida and auburn both failed without the freak athletes and yes tebow was a freak

Time of possession isn't going to be valuable stat for us IMO. Too fast pace to think it will be, I think I saw after the first qt Saturday we were behind 8:6

So 3 teams have ran this offense in the SEC and two of them have won NC. Therefore the offense doesn't work.

And lets not forget that Tebow wasn't the QB for UFs first Championship under Urban.

Good point with leak.

It's what happened to fl/Aub afterward that worries me. Defenses figured it out from my view point

So where has AtM recruited? Because they are more than athletically capable of matching Bama. Now LSU will probably end up beating AtM pretty good but I don't see it with Bama. This Bama squad is taking a step back. That secondary is suspect outside of #6.

Breaker Geno looked pretty good for them Sat. Made a few plays.I agree they dont look quite as good this year.

"Defensive end Jacques Smith won Jones' 'Juice Man Award,' a weekly internal honor for the player who displayed the most energy. Jones said a decision on Smith's status for Saturday will be made later this week along with linebacker Curt Maggitt.

Jones said there were no other injuries from Saturday's win over Austin Peay and no changes in the depth chart.

Both James and Worley said they, as well as numerous teammates, were in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center Sunday watching film on the Hilltoppers' win against Kentucky."
