Did anyone happen to catch the J Franklin interview on 104.5 couple hours ago? That guy is such a d!ck! Geez, he really is a complete douche.

He started the interview all happy and joking with the guys on 104.5 about their season starting a week from today. Then after answering a couple of questions and talking about espn being there for the second year in a row to open the season one of the guys on 104.5 (Mark Howard, I think) said I know you can't comment on the incident and then asked how the team was doing dealing with it (basically if they're focused or is it a distraction) and JF freaking snapped on him saying he wasn't gonna talk about it and he only wanted to talk about the game with Ole Miss. He was extremely rude the way he said it and it was easy to tell just how pissed off he was. I know he's probably been asked about it a lot by the media but he could've handled that a little better. He seriously went from happy, happy, happy, to a complete d!ck in a split second. Wow, just wow. Dude has some serious issues. He'll be gone right after Butch whips his ass in November.

Final 7:

Berry
Berry
Barnett
Mosley
Hendrix
Malone
Blair or another OL

I'd be ecstatic with this finish. The first 5 seem like they are virtual locks. Then it'll be a dog fight for Malone and Blair. If we can land one of those 2 we will put ourselves in great position come NSD

In fairness, he may have gotten an assurance they weren't going to bring it up.

I have been wondering this for a while now and saw the discussion here on Volnation a while back when the new staff came together, but I forgot what everyone said. My question to you Volnation guru's is this: What about Coach Jancek and Coach Martinez makes them such good coaches? I understand that they coached at UGA for some time as co-DC's, but if I remember correctly their defenses were okay but not great. Were they held back at UGA by Richt? Can anyone give me a good explanation on this?

Another reason I'm asking is because I have friend who is completely off the Jancek/Martinez train saying "If they can't do it at UGA then they wont do it here." Trying to find good info to combat that statement. Thanks in advance.

I don't think so. Mark stood by the question after it was over. JF's bipolar interviews are becoming more frequent. You can't ask him any tough questions.

He's definitely a dick. I wish he would go to the west coast so we could stop talking about him.

@jcshurburtt: Davonte Lambert, Joe Henderson and possibly Dewayne Hendrix- big time DE group for the #Vols

@jcshurburtt: Forgot to mention Derek Barnett and Charles Mosely when talking potential #Vols DL gets last night. One of the best DL classes in ‘14?

But I thought DL recruiting was going terribly, Stripling couldn't relate to DL recruits and we needed to be really concerned? :)

That quote gets my man chowder bubbling

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but I want to see what you guys think.

In HS, Worley was named the National Gatorade Player of the Year. And he may have won a state title... Not sure though.

Riley Ferguson lost like 2 games in 4 years of HS ball. Kid is a winner and a competitor. He's mobile and picks up things quick.

Josh Dobbs led the Alpharetta HS to a couple successful seasons. He performed very well in the Elite 11. He's smart and mobile as well.

Here's my question. Coming straight out of HS, who was the more polished QB of those 3 and why? My vote goes to Riley.

Such a hard question to answer, TCV. Riley played at one of the best programs in North Carolina and absolutely had control of the reins leading them to so much success. If their post-senior-year-selves were thrown into an NFL-style combine, I think Riley would stand out. He can sling it, probably has the quickest release of the three, and I'm guessing he can make more of the 'uncomfortable' throws under pressure or outside the pocket (partially due to arm strength, and partially due to his willingness to run around).

I don't know as much about the talent levels at the other high schools, or much about... evaluating quarterbacks. Dilfer fell in love with Ferguson and he was out-throwing some other QBs at that camp with a bum hand. He has a chance to be mighty impressive if he learns quickly to care for the football. Luckily, and I said this yesterday, the OL should keep these guys upright and leave the choice of caring for the football in their hands.

Now, being a senior in high school, Ferguson's arm might have just as easily led to poor decision making on the field when he should have taken a sack, thrown the ball away, or dropped it off to a back. But if you were just lining these kids up for drills...

The reason I comment on Ferguson more is because I got to see him in person, some good and some bad.

I have seen nothing to suggest we lead for Barnett. The other 2 we certainly do lead for according to reports

UT may lead for Barnett. If they do, it's very close IMO. 55/45 or something like that. As usual, most on here will try to ignore random visits to candy and such as they claim it means nothing. "He was bored". If a recruit visits our Vols, "WE LEAD OBVIOUSLY"! I think the kid is very interested in candy and his mother favors them. CBJ must pull this kid now that he passed on the other HS DTs who were ready to be Vols.

In a game that is won upfront, and we have elite talent upfront, why is everyone so gloomy about our prospects for having a decent/good season? I understand we are inexperienced in a few places, but we have the bigs to do some damage. I think a few of the "realists" might be pleasantly surprised at the end of the season.

I feel ya. People might be underestimating the value of a really good offensive line. They can make things MUCH easier for the inexperienced guys around them.

I feel like our o-line will finally get a chance to unleash. Instead of just backing up and forming a pocket, they should get to maul people this year. Gonna be awesome to watch.

I think Jancek had the #3 rush defense in the conference at UGA as the DC. I'm optimistic about all of these guys ATM. Whatever may have been the results of a short stint at some previous stop could have been related to talent level or young players or whatever. We destroyed our OLine coach here when our present OLine were incredibly young. He's okay. Played for the National Championship last year. I think these guys are going to be okay too but we do have at least for this year some holes in our defense that are going to come under relentless attacks.

I think someone mentioned this already, but a last second visit to Vandy, with his team, right down the road is a little different than traveling to Knoxville.

Most polished? Riley

Most accomplished? JW (broke all kinds of passing records in SC and nationally I believe)

Most potential? Dobbs

Quick recruiting ranking note....

If you haven't looked through the updated position rankings. Here are the 7 commitments who are in the top 10 at their position.

Helm - #1

Why Dobbs? Jw. Cause he may have a little more running ability? Or?

I think his skill set is the best based off film ive seen (mobility, accuracy, arm strength...) though you could argue Riley's is better.

I believe Dobbs' mental capacity for the game gives him a higher ceiling eventually as well.

He just needs to spend a year in the weight room to attain a D1 football body and I think the sky is the limit for him.

Riley's skill set and his competitiveness seem to be his strong suits, which may have him winning the job long term though.

It will be fun to watch.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THE RAPTURE IS COMING.

Just found out my big bro who is in the Coast Guard and he lives in Bama(god bless his soul) is taking my other bro, Dad, and myself to the AP game!!!!!!!!!

Drive down to my Grannies for some delicious homemade biscuits and other great southern cooking and go to my first game since Duke, back when I was in the 10th grade(2004, I believe). I just remember James Banks was the man(plus being from Ben Davis in Indianapolis) and my favorite Vol at the time.

First home opener I've been able to go to since 1996,right after a bunch of renovations and they gave us a bunch of free stuff to celebrate it, plus watching Peyton demolish UNLV like 55-7 or something like that. Priceless-
