Somebody link the hashbrowns conversations for me? (Or tell me what post # if it's in this thread please?)

I have 4.5lbs of Instant Corn Masa Flour. Other than masa harina pancakes, what should I do with it? I don't have a tortilla press. Could I still make them using something else? (And I have no idea why this brand says "instant". The only ingredients listed are White Corn, Lime.)

Just make sure you stir the hashbrowns.

Lulz...the hash brown conversation was a joke. The "big" secret is to not stir them.

So y'all didn't discuss soaking the starch out of the potatoes or anything? Shame. Good hashbrowns are worth knowing what you're doing.

You make hash browns from whole potatoes??...wow. I buy the bag already shredded. But it's ok cause I'm not a real cook.

We didn't discuss anything Volly. Someone posted they couldn't ever get hash browns right. Comp said the secret was to not stir them or cover them. I asked who the hell stirs hash browns and laughed. Ho called me a smartazz... and there you go. Typical Zone conversation.

Agreed. Clean the potatoes well, not just run them under water, use a brush and clean'em. Then shred and soak. If you have time, let them soak in the fridge for a couple of hours.

Nahhhhh....I just have a bad memory of shredding a knuckle using a shredder before. It never occurred to me that hash browns would be homemade.

So, back to the masa harina...

Throw it away.

Seriously, I'd rather buy the product already made than mess with it. Use it in place of flour for almost anything. Use them to bread some stuffed Jalapeno's and saute them.

I was in a hurry and grabbed it thinking it was cornmeal. Tried using in place of flour for chicken strips the other night and wasn't impressed. Way too much cornmeal taste. But I'll try it on fish.

The great thing about convenience foods is that the finished product is normally on the label. I never buy the wrong thing on accident. :)

Volly, the lame point I was attempting to make was that is you buy convenience foods, you wouldn't need items such as flour and cornmeal.
