Da Reds thread

I know there are some in here that want Cozart replaced, but I think he is fine as long as dusty bats him in the 7th or 8th hole instead of trying to bat him higher. He is solid defensively and it is not like there are that many short stops available that are upgrades.

"Solid defensively"

I generally agree, but tonight is not the night to recognize his defensive ability with 2 errors in one game.

I feel you. If he could hit .250 and field .980+ I'd take it.

Not going to fuss about those numbers either. But the guy is 27 years old. Now is the time for that to happen if it's going to at all. I think his hitting is causing his head to mess him up in the field.

He does not set up right in the box, he lunges at the ball, he opens his lead shoulder. He has Stubbs Disease, thinking he can do stuff he can't while never changing what is not working. If Jacoby had any sense as a batting coach he could fix this and Bruce. Both are athletic guys with good bat speed. They both stand too tall in the box with very little knee flex. The bat does not stay level through the swing so the odds of making good contact are decreased. They both prance toward the ball, instead of staying back and uncoiling. When they time it wrong their lead shoulders fly open and all the bad stuff happens.

Yea Joey Votto!!! Sabermetric geeks wet dream!!!

Who cares if he blows dick at actually driving anyone in. Bases loaded no out and he hits into double play.

No words...

Also didn't listen to the reds broadcast today but Tom Brennaman is a clown. Saying that an all star that is 9-3 with a 2.11 era sucks. Especially when this same pitcher that supposedly sucks has only given up 2 runs in 18 innings against you.

LOL! Did not hear that one. Classic. Choo and the pitchers showed up - the rest must have overslept. I am tired of ranting about Votto. What a wuss. Gets all giddy about his walks and singles. Is lousy on the basepaths. BP has 35 more RBI's. Walt better do a blockbuster or it is going to be 10 years of this azz clown show pony.

Jacoby has to go soon. Bruce and Cozart are burning up good careers without any help from the hitting coach to fix the obvious. Both of them love to flail at outside crap. Automatic outs. So undisciplined, refuse to stay behind the ball and keep their lead shoulders in. Bruce will do it right for a month and then revert. Cozart never has done it right. Yet, they both have live bats and could be really good hitters.

So we've got a manager that has burned up arms for three different teams over 20 years, plus his hitting coach that has been asleep for years while good players burn up their careers. Great.

Brian Kenny is really ranting about Dusty on twitter tonight. Haven't seen the exact comment myself but according to Kenny when Baker was asked why he left Bailey in, he said it is because he wanted to try to get Bailey the win.

Step back and see: Dusty allowed the probability of his team winning to diminish drastically..because of an individual Statistic.

At what point are people going to realize that Bruce is what he is. He's been the exact same since he came into the league.

As for Cozart, he was never a highly regarded prospect so to expect him to be anything better than average at best is unrealistic.

I'm not a fan of their overall approach or of Jacoby in general but there is no hitting coach in the MLB that takes below-average prospects and makes them above average or better. At the end of the day Cozart just is what he is and that is a below average Major League hitter.

Cannot remember who said it but they said it best in regards to Dusty, "he's great at managing off the field where the fans cannot see but is awful at managing during the games where everyone can see it."

I agree.

I agree with some of what you are saying. But most of the best hitters are made. There are a few naturals, not many. Some subtle changes in the way they set up and move or step into the ball, along with getting their brains right would do wonders. Better off season training and conditioning for the purpose would help. Examples are out there all around them of guys that took the next step with hard work and the right coaching. Take Yadier Molina as an example. But you need an active hitting coach that is willing to bend them and not just try to get along and pet them like Dusty does. You also need a GM willing to move them out when it becomes apparent they can't or won't. Which makes it so mind blowing that Walt signed Dusty again.

Bruce and Cozart have good hands and bat speed. Bruce refuses to stay in the pitch and gets to wild swinging and dancing. Cozart is totally off balance and falls into every pitch. Probably something he has done since Little League to add power.

Just like football and most sports - coaching matters. Get some that will get it done. Then if a player doesn't get it you know it is on him. As it is now it is anybody's guess on any given day.

Rant over for the rest of the season. Everybody applaud.
