'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

After losing Phillips and Taylor, technically not signing any in 2013, and losing 4 to graduation this year I wouldn't think too many in the SEC will have more PT to offer than UT in '14. Some of the freshmen we sign in this class may be playing right away next year.

Wow, I did not know all that. That alone should seal the deal for UT.

If Davonte is as good as he and other people think he is, he would be able to get on the field anywhere, including UGA. UGA wouldn't be recruiting a JUCO guy who they had no intention of playing immediately.

There probably would be more opportunity to stand out at UT.

I don't even know that we have anyone to compete with him next yr. obrien and Clark are only returning tackles. Hopefully Carr ends up at tackle.

Georgia will have 10 DL on their roster next year, with none of the 10 being seniors. Plus, they have a commitment from Dontavious Russell and are heavily recruiting Kentavious Street, Elisha Shaw, Lamont Gaillard, Abu Lamin, and Lorenzo Carter.

When it comes to DL depth, they have nothing to worry about - with or without Lambert.

I am sure their Coach Wilson will bring all this to light for Davonte.

"Flat dishonest" was hyperbole, but our situation at DT is scary bad in 2014. Maybe I'm being a little panicky but I don't expect freshmen to contribute at that position.

I expect Lambert would be in the two deep from day one at UT.

He and Obrien, maybe Carr, depending how they use him. If anything, he won't want to come here because we'll make him play too many snaps.

Meh...hopefully he can be a solid contributor as a SR or RS JR.

I understand. I actually think he's gonna be a decent player. But I would rather someone step up and take that spot beside Obrien and see Traveras get his reps thru the rotation. Lambert would be a blessing. In 14' something like:

DT: Obrien, Saulsbury
DT: Lambert, Carr

I could live with something like this. I think 14 will be a step back regardless at DT. But a crew like that along with any other freshman coming could be pretty solid by the '15 season.

UGA's Coach Wilson is 100% correct. Where ever Lambert goes he will have to compete and there will be players whether it be tennessee, uga, or florida he will have to compete against for playing time. it's not like any of those teams are going to stop recruiting his position if he would commit to them. He is a JUCO and teams would bring him in to compete right away for a starting job.

Regarding UGA we will have 8 returning if our 3 jrs stay and depending on the season they have we might lose a few of them and our 1 proven player on the dline is leaving after this year. regarding this class we have 1 committed and we will have a baker commit, but he is going to ultimately end up at OT. then gaillard will commit at dawgnight. We are probably going to take a two more on the dline because coach wilson loves to rotate 8 to 10 guys so if shaw commits and then another guy like lamin does (not saying he will) we will be very tight on numbers. someone mentioned lorenzo carter. but he is an OLB all the way for us.

If we had that rotation going into the 2014 with 3 more freshman to redshirt or what not, our depth issue would be solved. It would allow us to work on upgrading talent. Really need Lambert or Lamin to go with any combination of Poona, Sawyers, Mosley, or Barnett. DT and LBer are the 2 biggest needs on our roster IMO.

"Tennessee showed me everything and I really got a lot of love there," Lambert told Scout. "They treated me a little differently in a good way than when I visited Florida and Georgia. That has put them at the top of my list with Florida."

"I am really not thinking about any other schools right now. I like Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee, and I see myself at one of those schools."

"Right now I am thinking August or September," he said when asked about commitment timeline. "I may take an official visit to Georgia, but I may not. My officials to Florida and Tennessee are done and I saw a lot of great things at those schools. I just need to think about things for a little while."

I hadn't thought about how thin we will be in '14 at DT. I think we should try for 2 juco DT's

Georgia will have 10 DL this fall, including juco transfer Toby Johnson, but two of those (DEs Smith & Kirk) are seniors. Lambert projects as a DE at Georgia; they'll have 4 returnees there in '14 plus whoever they sign before the season.

Florida will have 15 DL this year including 9 DTs/NTs (2 seniors), so their future interior depth looks pretty good.

UT will have 17 DL this fall including 8 DTs (3 seniors). Lambert obviously projects as a DT here and I think Carr will end up there as well. At worst, Lambert would be in our 2-deep in '14 (along w/ Saulsberry, O'Brien & Carr) but if he's as good as some think, he'd almost certainly start for us.

The Georgia Military Institute defensive end took an official visit to Rocky Top in late June and after two officials to Tennessee and Florida Lambert has the Gators and the Vols as his top two schools, but he has more visits coming up including a July official visit to Auburn. Lambert said he will take all five of his visits and doesn't appear to be in any hurry to make a decision. Obviously for Lambert early playing time is important in the decision making process and with the fleet of departing seniors on the defensive front after this season, Tennessee can certainly offer that.

This is the dude I really want. And as
homo-ish as that sounds, I promise....no homo.

He and Blair are near if not at the top of my list from a pure need standpoint.

And how does he go to 100% UGA? Has he even been there (officially)?

He didn't really just go to 100%... Last prediction was made on 6/16, which means most of those were before UF OV and all of those were before UT OV. They just haven't updated their predictions. Judging by his most recent quotes, it would appear UF and UT are tied at the top, IMO.

Referring to 247's crystal ball feature. Usually it means absolutely nothing (see: Daniel Helm predictions), but in some cases, especially when predictions suddenly change, it can be pretty noteworthy.

When there are a lot of national guys picking a school within days its a done deal....
